The laughing at the end I found really strange. Like it only works if you believe that Batman takes the “Joker” way out and chooses madness and then kills him. If he didn’t kill him, then the laughter is super disrespectful towards the Gordon family
I loved this book from the first read, but I still haven't read my Absolute edition, for whatever reason. I guess I'm loosely reading Batman books in some sort of order, lol. I'll also say that I don't mind the Joker's face being elongated, since great artists like Neal Adams and Jim Aparo also drew him that way. And please, can we at least get an explanation as to why you no longer say "stay reading the best books that you can find"? Your outro seems incomplete without it!
I was pretty disappointed with the killing joke. The art is phenomenal but the story is not up to par for Alan Moore. It felt more like a book written for shock value rather than really anything of substance. Maybe I’ll have to wait a few years and give it a re read. Another great video though!
Great video Maddogg, this is one of the few Absolutes that I have and I love it, the fact that you get both original and modern colours and Moores script is perfect. I would like to see a sequel to this video with your thoughts on the Three Jokers.
Unpopular opinion, but the movie was pretty decent. Yes, there is extreme criticism to be had, but I think once it gets to the actual comic it's a really good adaptation and very enjoyable
I remember when I first read this early in my comic journey and remember thinking “is that it” then years later I re-read it and after reading more Batman I got a bit more of a appreciation for it it’s not the best thing ever when it comes to Batman/Joker stories Similar to TDKR it’s not something I’d recommend for beginners for Bat-Books but it dose try something different and in this case a great character breakdown on one of the greatest villains within the history of comics
I thought that Killing Joke was pretty weird back in 1988. I only read part of it back then because I was 7. I read the full thing back in 1992 and liked it, especially because it became canon. ALL of the people I knew who read it thought it was good. It wasn’t until 2019 that people started saying it was bad. Most of them were around 35 or younger. Pretty strange, to me.
Love your content I agree the art is amazing but I hate that I have it in my shelf, lots of people ask me Batman recommendation, I alway say to avoid this comic.
These are my thoughts. Loved the characterisation especially Joker like how it made me feel sorry for him in the flashbacks. Like how he really is pushed around by the other gang members, it kinda feels relatable. Like to believe Joker was once a normal decent guy and his account is somewhat real. As they say "Sometimes fact is stranger than fiction." Bolland simply on the top of his game. Detailed linework and the dark undertone gives the story grit but the colours really make the page pop. What always bugs me is everything could've been fleshed out more. Just too short. Also could've gave Joker more multiple choices as to who he is to make you question everything.
How I interpret the ending is different on each re-read. But like to think that Batman withheld his code and didn't kill Joker( although to be fair I would totally read Bats go against his morales in a story one day😁) Slightly overrated but a still find it a top tier read that deserves a decent amount of hype. This video made me think quite deeply . Still dunno if that's a good thing or not.😂
While it's not written by Moore Three Jokers by Geoff Johns and Jason Fabok is a sequel to this that tries to expand on the Jokers past and while I don't think it's written the best I like some of the stuff Johns did in it and Faboks art is top quality,
I just recently started reading comics and my first one was the killing joke. I always liked Batman, I always liked that dark tone that came with the character, so my first comic that I bought was the killing joke, I have to admit that I was not impressed, I mean it was not bad, I liked it. There is an obvious shocked moment but maybe it was the hyped that I read so much stuff of it that when I reas i said, it was ok. For example I read the Snyder and Capullo omni and “Death of the family” was much more fun and kept me at the edge than the killing joke. One can say that it a ver short story, I don’t know, it certainly is a good one but not my favorite.

Bro your content is amazing. Can you do a civil war review?
Maddog forever! Thanks man
As a 12 year old kid. Batman The Killing Joke was my first Batman comic I have read. I prefer the original colours.

Others call it as worse.

I hate the killing joke, it so dehumanising to Barbara. I also love your content, have you ever thought of covering inhuman vs x-men
