My understanding is it uses some of the original ideas for the original Space Marine 2. supposedly they intended him to be in the deathwatch in 2 and found a new chapter in 3.

I really love how the text states “Cato Sicarius, who felt he had been overlooked…” cuz usually GW lore makes Sicarius very noble, but that is the most tts “I CATO SICARIUS” shenanigans I have seen in a long time.
And it says a lot about how capable Titus is that Sicarius was actually the second choice. Seeing as how GW loves to make Sicarius absolutely overpowered, at least assuming that they haven’t retconned the bs that Matt Ward wrote, it’s actually a really neat bit of scaling for Titus.
Makes sense for how Sicarius would have been then.
I also LOVE the POV chapters of girlymann where he muses about sicarius beeing an examplary warrior but a deeply unpleasant human being, that je tries to teach to be better.
There's always been that hint of Cato's ambition. Things might have ended up badly if Guilliman hadn't returned and taken Cato with him as leader of his honor guard.
i love the fact they have gone in and explained how we had Titus as captain of the second company during the first game, when previous lore contradicted this.

Lore didn't really contradicted it. There was gap between Cato assuming and a former captain dying in which we didn't knew who was the captain of the company. We could put Titus in this slot as head cannon. GW just made it official.

Leandros must appear in SM2. The "hate" agaisnt him is so big that killing him off-stage is not the way. Either he gets a redemption arc or just a multiple reminder of how his belowed codex weights a ton.
My hope is he shows up in the game as a higher rank, Dies in battle and Titus is "promoted" to take his place. How he dies....it needs to be either the best redemption arc towards Titus or is ripped apart in the most glorious way lol.
I'd love an off-hand remark that Leandros made it all the way to Guilliman's Revival and then his idol told him to not be such a fucking nerd

Heh, knew it. My head canon had always been that Titus was simply the captain of the 2nd company BEFORE Sicarius took over and that the devs simply fumbled some events considering placement in the timeline, but people kept yelling that the game Space Marine took place in 999.M41 and that therefor the game conflicted the timeline. This article makes sense and solves it perfectly.
My favorite little detail about this story was how Sicarius thought he was passed over for promotion. It just says a lot about how capable Titus actually is that Cato Sicarius, who has pulled off some absolutely insane bs, was the SECOND CHOICE.
It could be theorized that while Cato was the better warrior, Titus was the better leader. Therefore, it is possible that Titus didn't exactly have any ultra great feats like Cato, but because he had good rapport with his brothers a higher level of tactical maturity, he was designated as Captain over Cato.

I'd be so happy if we get a flashback of Titus's time since after he was taken by the Inquisition at the end of the first game's story, flashbacks of interrogation and torture to his final induction into the Deathwatch and then to all his fellow battle brothers being massacred by Tyranids with him barely surviving. Would be so epic and really set the tone for the 2nd game's story in opinion.
This is exactly what I imagined after hearing this new lore. PTSD flashbacks while he's ripping nids in half.
"Leandros is not mentioned in this article".... At least, not after the backstory in that first page you show where Captain Trajan fell in something reminiscent of "Saving Private Ryan," with Leandros taking the role of Private Ryan.
Imagine being responsible for the death/disavowing of two of your captains.

Whoever made the lore for this needs to get a pay raise surprisingly good and I’m glad the death watch was brought in to help with the story. It makes more sense that he’ll be cruising around with them than the black Templars but my only thing is why is it with his chain around his arm because when he first came back in the trailer, people thought that he was working with a black Templars, but I like that he was actually fightingwith the deathwatch
Maybe he befriended a black templar during his tenure in the deathwatch and learnt to chain his weapon to his arms from him
If you look at the chains it has the Inquisition I on it. Odds are he got it from the Deathwatch
Small correction, three weeks or so late... Titus "disappearing from the annals for a time" doesn't mean that his previous records were expunged, it means that he's not mentioned again as there are no updates on his situation after his capture by Thrax. As far as the Ultramarines were concerned, Titus was one of their heroes, gone missing under strange circumstances, and the people who were holding him weren't even answering their inquiries, so there was nothing to write. (The wording is often used to describe when a hero from a story retires from public life - no deeds to record means he disappears from the ongoing record.)
I kinda wanted a game with Titus as a Black Shield. But I'm just glad to see the games still somewhat matter
I think in the starting of the game you can see deathwatch dropship getting destroyed so we could play Titus as Deathwatch and then as Ultramarine, which will be so sick. I mean we can see how deathwatch operates first-hand

The whole thing about Inquisitor Thrax getting possessed by a Daemon is a reference to really old, Rogue Trader-era lore. The book Realms of Chaos: Slaves to Darkness (which was literally what introduced Chaos into 40k, previously it was just a Fantasy thing) opens with a short story about Inquisitor Thrax making a report on how he just purged the corrupt Grey Slayers chapter, only to be corrupted by the Chapter Master's desk (yes, really) possessed by a Daemon who kills and eat his assistant. So now we have confirmation that was the same Inquisitor Thrax as in the Space Marine game.
Reminds me of Ventris. He went into the Deathwatch after fighting tyranids. Now Titus is fighting tyranids after being in the Deathwatch.
At least now we can say that the Corvus Blackstar clip from the trailers takes place in the very beginning of the game.
I think that Leandros became "persona non grata" amongst the Ultramarines for selling Titus out to the Inquisition!!!!!!

After completing "Space Marine" at first time several years ago I always thinks that Titus was an temporary 2nd Company captain before or after Sicarius, because I don't know in that time when SM game is happening in actual lore. But now.. oh my God-Emperor, that pieces of lore like honey on my tongue.

I've never liked/watched him anyway just because of the disgusting things he says in his videos thinking he's cool - but I've never heard of any "drama"
He accused wesshammer of stealing video ideas a month or two ago. Unless something else happened more recently, thats all i can think of. So far as i know he and wes patched things up, from what ive heard at least. I dont watch too much of either of them to be sure myself.@theophrastusbombastus1359
@@theobtusemongoose3980 I can vouch for that. the video majorkill posted after the drama opened with a statement from him saying how he realized the stupidity in his actions (iirc even saying that it was some kinda now-tasteless humor from a gone-time) and talked to wes privately and with civility.
@@TheBroGamer14082Yeah they patched it up and MK admitted he was a dumbass for even getting upset and made a bad decision on little sleep. Personally I like Majorkill but I like him NOW not two years ago when he was an edge lord dick. Even he admits this nowadays. That being said, Valrak is by far the most likeable person doing this. I watch all his stuff even about the tabletop which I really have no interest in. His enthusiasm about everything is infectious though.
This might be way off, but it sounds like that rescue operation in the beginning might have shaped the way Leandros thinks. Maybe he believes Trajan wouldn’t have died if he’s followed the codex and left him to the Aeldari? Then again, I don’t really know the codex’ stance on captured marines lol
Space Marine culture while varied across the chapters almost always emphasizes the importance of brotherhood and unity. Most real life militaries atleast in the west have a sort of unwritten rule of no man left behind. And in a warrior culture that revolves around brotherhood I am sure that translates to no brother left behind.
It's a bit late but that story comes from the Space Marine Strategy Guide. It goes over all their backstories and the section in Leandros actually states that's why he worships the Codex as written. He was brash and arrogant, which resulted in his capture on his first mission with the Second Company and the Death of his Captain. After that he became strongly codex complaint since he felt that if he just followed the rules he would've never made that mistake on the first place and Trajan would still be alive.
Hold on, the part of Thrax being possessed and eating people is from Rogue Trader era supplement Slaves To Darkness (1988).
They really went back a lot and connected the same named Inquisitors into one.

This is cool and actually makes sense, but I have to say: imagine if SM2 would follow Titus during his blackshield days in the Deathwatch. Imagine seeing that cathartic moment of every one of your battle brothers dead around you, and then the Smurfs arriving at the last second.

The Third Company of the Avenging Sons, an Ultramarines successor chapter turned Renegade and fled into the Eye of Terror
Five of the six companies of the Doom Legion, another successor chapter, which were sent on the Abyssal Crusade were corrupted and turned to Nurgle worship and became the Vectors of Pox
The Viridian Consuls chapter, a Second Founding successor chapter, were also corrupted during the Abyssal Crusade and became the Broken
Elements of the Sons of Guilliman chapter fell to Chaos and became the warband Adharon’s Reavers
In the book Dark Imperium the Cawl Inferior points out to Guilliman that Astartes of his own geneline had fallen over the millennia

40k is one of them few franchises that yes, has gone through tough times but I'm just happy to see the love back for it and over the top lore/story telling that I and my big brother grew up with in the 90's and the newcomers and starting to see. Titus is amazing as a character and VERY ahead of his time in Spacemarine. Best of luck with the game and while i miss the og voice actor, I always welcome new talent once its respectful and done with love/passion for the source. The codex astartes supports this course of action! Hehe

Great lore. I'm surprised that the Ultramarines would allow Thrax to hold Titus for a century. They have enough pull to absolve him themselves, and decide whether or not he's a heretic (he isn't).
That would be if they knew where he was, you have to remember that the inquisition is so disconnected, the right hand has no idea what the left hand is doing, so who do you contact, do they even care or will it get lost in the pile of million upon millions requests.
It's stated that Calgar tried to get Titus back. But apparently Thrax took advantage of the ponderousness of the Imperial bureaucracy to avoid having to respond to Calgar. And from the sound of things, Thrax likely pissed off a lot of marine chapters over the years, and only lasted as long as he did because he was really good at hiding from them.

We need a god of war style 40k game where you play as a primarch (lion bias for me) (god of war being khorne could even be a chaos primarch) with massive battles even against some of the biggest units (tanks, dreadnaughts, knights, swarmlords, avatars, ctan shards, warbosses etc etc...actually vulkan returning and collecting his equipment would make the most sense to a degree as an rpg mechanic.
Id also like to see a fighter game like injustice/mk1 style with a roster spanning each race...

I think I had a Captain Titus voice pack for X com 2. It was very cool and I am most pleased that Captain Titus is now canon.
My fan cannon is Malum Caedo and Titus both have geneseeds from either the 2 expunged chapters cause there has to make them unique and more powerful than your regular ultramarine

I always felt there was a lot of similarity between some themes in the story of Titus in the game and what happened with Uriel Ventris in the battle of Tarsis Ultra from Graham McNeil's Ultramarines series.
I like how they've made the effort to link it all together in the lore and not being cheesy. Win win

So when the Lion comes back and brings back the Fallen hes basically making an enemy of inquisitor Thrax. This really ties in to the greater lore
Rip "veil of darkness" by Nick Kyme - in which titus and Sicarius were in the same room for cato's trial
Interesting that they retconned Sicarius' backstory of how he came to be the Captain of the Second Company here to tie it in with bringing Titus into canon. That means the setting of the first game is much older than we thought, possibly older than than the Siege of Vraks.
If I remember correctly Titus became captain after Captain Trajan died in battle against the eldar of Biel-Tan while the captain tried to save Leandros. Titus drove the eldar off and recovered Leandros and Trajan’s body. This was a century after the 1st tyranic war. Titus lead the 2nd company for 10 years before the invasion of Graia in the first game so space marine 1 takes place in 855 M41

The Deathwatch storyline was what Relic was going to do for their Space Marine 2 video game. And I still think that is the storyline that should have been done.

Wasn't there a head in the old Deathwatch box that looked a lot like C.Titus? so now they have ret-coned him from Ultra to Deathwatch back to Ultra to make a head in a kit canon? That's a lot of work for a head.

Titus actually getting some love and some lore WOW. hes actually way more badass than he started holy emperor.
There is one thing I’m a bit confused about… in the WD story, Kadaku, the forest planet you’re fighting on in SM2, and has been shown in gameplay, has Titus in Ultramarine armor. It states he was in the DW while on Kadaku, and got his ass beat by a carnifex. Then reinforcements from the 13th came and he later crossed the RP.
My question is, is the imperium leading a counter attack on Kadaku after it was lost? With how the article words it, Kadaku was overrun when he was in the DW, but you’re playing as Titus as an UM in the game, on Kadaku. Maybe the black star falling in the trailer is an intro on Kadaku, and everything from being reinstated as an UM to leading a counter attack on the planet happened within a short time span? Not sure.
In trailers there is a scene where death watch thunderhawk being swarmed by tyranids

Hopefully there will be some armor customization in the game so we can add the Deathwatch pauldron to his armor. Or would a black shield not get that honor? I don't know much about the Deathwatch.
Being taken away by the inquisition and also being strong psychically and resisting choas. That reads like he could potentially move to being a grey knight if they wanted to do that
I actually hope they don't touch upon Leandros' fate. It doesn't have to be important at all, he could have been one of a hundred brothers that's been slain in the intervening centuries.Addressing his fate imo kinda makes the universe smaller, as if everyone knows everyone else. This particular storypoint could do without being neatly tied off. Just one more mystery in a universe that has a teeming mass of them.

As a DW player/ collector I’m very happy to get the space marine board game and play Titus as a DW character.
in the space marine co-op trailer you see a Corvus black star getting taken down by gargoyles this could actually be the prologue.

Wow well crafted by GW! I always counted space marine as canon, not in some parallel universe as some say. So yes space marine 1 and 2 canon, that makes Boltgun canon and by extension Dawn of war 1 and 2 proper canon. As the blood ravens cameo in space marine 1. Wait, when the story mentioned the deathwatch aircraft going down, we did see a deathwatch aircraft going down in one of the SM2 trailers, so are we actually gonna see what happened to Titus in a cutscene at the very beginning of the game? 🤔 i would love to see his whole story of what occurred in between SM1 and 2 as fully rendered cutscenes.
Was it a Deathwatch aircraft going down? To me it looked like an Ultramarine aircraft, but I could be mistaken.
@@theallmightychad Well i could be wrong, but in the co-op trailer around the 35 second mark, when you see a ship going down by the nids it looks very much like a deathwatch corvus blackstar. again i could be wrong but that's what it looks like to me which gives me hope on a cinematic quick back story on titus in the SM2 game

Honestly I could see some Tzeentchian influence in twisting and deceiving the truth... After all Tzeentch is going to be the chaotic enemy in the sequel.
