    Nice to see my home town Heidelberg and home base EDFM in one of your videos 👍

    Great to fly your parents. Your father had a smile on his face throughout the whole flight. I have been in Heidelberg back in June. I arrived on the Monday just after the weekend with the flooding in the south of Germany. The river Neckar was quite high. My booked boat trip on the Neckar was cancelled. But I enjoyed Heidelberg. Have you also been in the castle? You can go up with the funicular. And even higher up to the "Königsstuhl" I enjoyed the view from up there. I could see the old US Airbase of Heidelberg. Closed since they left.

      We flew on the 13th of June, it must have been close to when you were there too. We had not enough time to go to the castle, lunch was a bit long and walking around the centrum was nice enough :) Thanks for watching!

      @@papics I just checked. I was there one week earlier, from the 3rd till the 6th of June. I can tell from you picture of the old bridge over the Neckar that the water was already much lower during your visit. It is a shame I can not upload a picture here, or can I? I do not know how. Otherwise I would send you my picture taken from the castle over the old town and river. It is now also my desktop background :)

    Just found your channel some time ago and watched most of your videos meanwhile.Thanks for sharing your passion in all your videos. The ATC is a great addition that makes the videos way more interesting. And that leads me to 14:10 in this video: you are about to cross the runway and the next approaching aircraft already receives the landing clearance. No safety issue if the approaching aircraft is on a long final but is this suppost to be ok ?

      Hi, and welcome on the channel! I also found it unusual that the landing clearance was given before I crossed, but the other aircraft was on such a long final (you can see them land at 15:14 while I am already at the parking spot), that if I had suddenly broken down they would have had plenty of time to cancel the landing clearance. Also, officially where taxiway A crosses the runway axis that part of the asphalt is not the runway anymore (but it is a paved safety strips). So I think that you don't actually cross the runway, even if there is a holding point for the runway. Which is strange, but this is how it is there.

    hi, nice, why do you apply brakes before ground roll, is is to increase RPM and have more control on the rudder as the plane has the tendency to go left of the centerline? happy landings

    • @papics
      @papics  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@patricepnc if you are referring to why the brakes were set (so I had to release them after setting power), that was accidental… I was actually curious if someone would comment on that. It’s not in the video, but while lining up I was not 100% happy with my rudder pedal position, so after lining up I set the brakes before leaning forward to adjust the pedals. Then I immediately forgot that I set the brakes. I always step on the brakes when setting power (although this is only SOP for short field take offs), so I only noticed the mistake when I let the toe brakes go and the plane would not accelerate. Then I immediately knew what the issue was and why it happened, you can even hear a bit of smile (at myself) in my voice when I call brakes released. But otherwise I indeed find that I have better rudder authority if I start the roll when the power/rpm is already set. I just normally use the toe brakes for that 😅

      @@papics :) ahh, yes last time I took off in ebci, despite right rudder, plane was of track quite to the left until 20 knot or so, thought that to gain more rudder authority, indeed would be good to apply some brakes and increase power before ground roll. beliebve it varies with wind conditions also etc.

      @@patricepnc indeed, if you have a bit of wind from the left then the initial turning tendency can be surprisingly strong.

    May i suggest a visit to Speyer ? It is not far away from Mannheim and a very interesting technical museum is located adjacend to the airfield. I had two daytrips to the museum in a Piper 28 and a Robinson 44. When you are aproaching via runway 16 it looks like the Boeing 747 in the museum is coming towards you. Here is some information:

      Yes, Speyer is on my list of places to visit, normally I would have gone there way before Mannheim, but for my parents a visit to Heidelberg was more interesting than the museum :) So I am sure I will visit Speyer too, in the not too distant future.
