    Todd was always ahead of the curve. His music didn't follow trends - he made them. Besides being a multi-instrumentalist and amazing vocalist, he was an innovative producer and an early adopter of computer generated imagery in rock videos using the early Amiga models to add CGI to his videos.

    I totally get both the George Harrison and Carole King references. It's comparisons I never dreamed of myself, but they are there. It's why I follow people like you, because of your point of view. That said Todd Rundgren produced albums for numerous high profile artists all while creating music for himself too. He literally may be THE MOST UNDERRATED artist/producer ever.

    I can definitely see the comparisons with George Harrison and Carole King. The background vocals do sound like King, although Todd played all the instruments, all vocals, production and engineering. And as for Harrison, he asked Todd to take over producing Badfinger's Straight Up album when he was called away mid-production. Great song from one of my favorites. Would love to see more Rundgren reactions!

    From Todd's 1972 album, "Something /Anything, this is a spectacular song made up entirely of verses and the bridge and barely a chorus. It was written in 15 minutes by Todd, who did the vocals, all the instruments and also produced it. He copied the Motown style of placing the best song first on the album ... it works. Made it to Number 16 in the US, Number 15 in Canada, and Number 36 in the UK. Wonderful melody, instrumentation and vocals made this a great song. Great reaction Harri. It's been used several times in movies, including a terrific one called, *American Hustle,* starring Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, Robert DeNiro, Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams. It's based on a true crime that took place in Philadelphia (coincidentally, Todd's hometown) in the '70s, and this song appears on the film's awesome '70s era soundtrack (as do 3 ELO songs!). I can definitely hear Harrison in the track. King I never thought of, but now that you mention it, yeah, her, too.

    • @Cosmo-Kramer
      @Cosmo-Kramer ปีที่แล้ว

      @@user-ie6dz4ib3b Actually, he was born in Philadelphia, and Upper Darby Township, where he was raised, borders the city. When he graduated high school, Todd moved a few miles back over the border into the city proper. He's a Philly boy. When Tina Fey,. who was born and raised in Upper Darby, is asked where she is from, she says, Philadelphia. That's because no one outside the Delaware Valley has ever heard of Upper Darby. Just like almost no one reading my comment above would know where the hell in the large commonwealth of Pennsylvania the Township of Upper Darby is located. So it's far more informative to say Todd's from Philly, given he grew up in the Greater Philadelphia Area, and was actually born in the city proper.

      Grew up in Clifton Heights outside of Philly. Went to Upper Darby high school. Was in a group call the Nazz in 68. The song was good in its time.

    I was a lunior in high school when the song debuted in March 1972. It received a lot of airplays from our local rock station, WFLI. Harri, I was like you-loved it the first time I heard it. Upon checking, I was a bit surprised the song did not chart higher than it did. But my sweet lord. What a beautiful composition from a brilliantly talented artist.

    I love Todd Rundgren. I think I was in middle school when this was on the radio. His production is always so good.

    I love this song! Great choice! And yes this has always reminded me of George Harrison (the guitar) as well. I get the Carol King connection as well but never noticed it until you pointed it out!

    Here is a song I listened to all the time traveling between Wilson NC and my uni in the hills of western NC. As i came up the hill in the morning heading back to Cullowhee, I saw the light shining from behind the mountain. Ah, the INCREDIBLE power of music to evoke memories!!!

    I got such a kick out of hearing that you thought this song sounded a lot like Carole King singing it. That is who I thought sang this song for the longest time until a Navy buddy told me it was Todd Rundgren.
