A number of folks have done the "everything played" thing but few reach this kind of excellence. Not saying they haven't. Steve Winwood certainly did it.
A genius. Todd's catalog in the 70s and 80s includes some of the most profound studies on love in its many, all too human facets: "The Meaning of the Verb to Love," "Love is the Answer," "Love of the Common Man," "Does Anybody Love You?" Todd composed from his heart and his manifold gifts are evident in his work.
As a fellow jazz fan, I like your "address?" "name?" This was my introduction to Rundgren too...except on FM...we had one in New Orleans (WRNO...We are the Rock of New Orleans)
"Dont waste time being hurt. We've been through hell together" He always nails the human condition. With a lyric suited perfectly to every mood possible, Todd is truly one of the best lyriscist...ever.
Been a fan of Todd, Utopia, his production work since the mid seventies…you’re in for a treat. He’s a musical shapeshifter and made everything from hard rock, beautiful ballads, spiritual music, funny songs, blues, jazz, symphonic rock, storytelling songs, rap, EDM, you name it, he’s done it…thanks for doing this!
In 1974 Todd Rundgren's Utopia hit us hard with one of the great alternative/progressive rock albums. I have read Todd was a bit miffed with his soft song/pop reputation and decided to form a hard rock band. He succeeded of course. This album should be in every prog head's library.
I don't know, Imadrummin - this might be my favorite Rundgren tune. That's saying a lot with his many classic tunes. This one leaves me feeling warm inside...nostalgic. Of course you selected this, brother -- great taste as always. Surprises like this are gold, Harri - enjoyed your reaction to such a wonderful song.
Yes, this song is high on my list of Todd songs. There are so many deep cut songs I gravitate to as well. One of my very favorite artist of all time. 😀
From Todd's 1978 album, "Hermit of Monk Hollow" this was the only hit single on the album reaching Number 29 on the Billboard Hot 100's. A beautiful produced song with Todd's voice delivering such a emotional packed punch with great back up vocals that blend magically. The instrumentation absolutely lovely and so fitting for this break up song.Give me Todd's wonderful musical abilities any day. Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Imadrummin. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Ima - I really enjoyed this submission song by the great Todd Rundgren. In fact, it is one of my favorites from his vast repertoire of songwriting, singing, and a master producer. As Harri said, an excellent selection for chilling out, and I couldn't agree more. Thanks, Ima and Harri.
Was my favorite song of Todd Rundgren, also in the movie "Dumb and Dumber" 1994 with Jim Carey and Jeff Daniels, guess the title track was also from Todd Rundgren, composed.
From the first Nazz album in 1968 through to the present, Todd has so many musical sides that it takes a lot of listening to really appreciate the magnitude of his talent. He really is among the greats.
Oh, he has it in him….in spades. Todd has written some of the most beautiful love songs in history…and his vocal arrangements are stunning. This album is ALL HIM…vocals, instruments, writing, production. Another one from this album is Fade Away….killer vocals and as romantic as you can get. Todd is a genius!
Thank you Harri!!. Yes, it is a change from your other Todd songs. I guess when you deep dive into Todd's library, you would see constant change. He is one of the few artists that can not only play all instruments and sing but so few songs sound a like. Very forward thinking and experimental. He really is a genius. 😀😀😀
Another great song from Todd. First heard him around 73 or 74. Saw him with Utopia in 81 and solo several times. Met him in Ann Arbor - he's totally genuine.
Hey Harri, I hope Rod Stewart doesn't have to die to get a little love in the world. MY favorite little-known song by him "Tonight I'm Yours (Don't hurt me)". Rocking Rodney at his best.
Todd is a very versatile performer but also a good hearted man. He actually raised Steven Tyler’s daughter, the actress Liv Tyler. He became her official Adoptive father and if you look up Liv Tyler you will see that her legal name is Liv Rundgren Tyler.
Todd's best song IMO, is the brilliant "I Saw The Light", and I won't be persuaded otherwise .. But this has got to be his 2nd best song .. And again, I won't be argued out of it.😄.. Do we agree, Harri ?🤔
Todd exists outside every box… you swear he’s in it, then he isn’t. Another of his great love songs is Torch Song. Another of his great R&B songs is Just One Victory. Keep digging!
Quite a unexpected change of pace. Really nice. Whenever I see "Todd Rundgren" I think of the motorcycle crash in Bat Out of Hell. Good choice, Imadrummin. Thanks, Harri.
Rundgren is based in soul music... both he and long-time friend Daryl Hall (both from the same area of Philadelphia, PA) loved the great Philly-based soul groups of the 60's & 70's like the Chi-Lites, Spinners, Delfonics, etc... so many songs TR has done show that influence. He was also heavily influenced by the Beatles (duh), and by the English blues rockers like Clapton, et al... There's a very deep hole associated with Todd that falls through the 90's... and even some of the songs released this century are really good.
Robert Palmer agreed with your assessment of this as having R&B inflections, he did an excellent , albeit stripped down by comparison cover version you may wish to check out. Funky and soulful. Cheers.
Todd Rundgren was influenced vocally by Philly soul music as well as artists like Stevie Wonder. Many of his songs, particularly his ballads, have that r&b sound to them. I suggest listening to his ballad 'Fair Warning'. It's profoundly moving and soulful.
Several artists have done a cover on this, e.g Vonda Shepard and Mandy Moore which are faithful to the original. "Love Is The Answer" would be another one with group Utopia. It provided a hit for England Dan And John Ford Coley, probably also being the better known version.
Want another surprise from him? “Sons of 1984” Chas a church choir thing going on a pop song vibe. Also did a song a couple of years ago with the guy from Weezer called Down with the Ship” that has a Ska vibe.
Liv Tyler was born as Liv Rundgren after musician Todd Rundgren agreed to step in as her father. Now, she considers both Rundgren and the Aerosmith singer to be her fathers. “I'm so grateful to Todd for choosing to be a father figure to me. The bizarre way Liv Tyler discovered her father was Aerosmith fron tman Steven Tyler. For the first decade of her life, Liv Tyler believed Todd Rundgren was her father. The musician and producer had dated Tyler's mother, musician and former Playboy playmate Bebe Buell, in the 1970s. Although Bebe and Todd ended their relationship before Liz was born, Todd signed her birth certificate and acted as a father figure in her childhood. While Liv was largely raised by her mother and grandmother, she would visit Todd three times a year. He also paid for her private education. Buell had a short fling a one night stand with Steven Tyler in late 1976. The encounter led to the birth of Liv in a New York City hospital the following July. Tyler was deep into his drug addiction at the time and, in an attempt to protect Liv, Buell kept the paternity a secret from her daughter. Peace out
Beautiful song .... sad but hauntingly beautiful. I think everyone has felt what he is singing about.
All instruments, voices, writing, arranging, production and mixing done by Todd. Great vocal arrangement to me.

He does not use telepromtors in concert. He learned the lyrics by heart.
This is the first Todd Rundgeen song I ever heard. Late 70’s, AM radio

I love Todd Rundgren! He is my favorite singer-songwriter-musician. Sooo goood!

Todd was so creative. He took music in new and innovative directions. A Wizard A True Star, that LP was just great stuff!
OMG! I'd forgotten about this beautiful song. THANK YOU 😊
Todd is still touring!

Excellent choice Ima. Todd has some truly great tunes. Thanks Ima and Harri.
Thank you Cynthia!! 👍
Knew this was Imadrummin -- the proud owner of *34* Todd Rundgren albums -- before I even clicked on it! Way to go, Mr. Imadrummin!
👍👍👍
Wow! If you count Utopia, I might have quite a lot, myself! ❤
Me too Cosmo and I can guess Daniel's picks as well quite often too. Lol 👍✌️🎶🇨🇦

Well that’s a blast from the past. Thank you so good to hear this again after many years
One of Todd’s best!
I’ve loved this song since the first time I heard it, all those years ago.
Lovely, lovely song!
Just one victory is my favorite by him

Such a great song!
I started listening and following Todd when he was with the group Nazz. Such a talented musician, writer and producer.
great live version at Daryl's house. Two Philly boys who did well.
He sings "It's like a sweeet, sad, ooooold song". This is that song now.
