When i was a kid (90s) there was this old lether shop/gas station (2 buildings that joined together with 1 owner) he used to make belts, cowboy hats, boots, vest, chaps, wallets, you name it. He did such good work and everything was done by hand out of these thick cowhide sheets. I don't see leather workers around here anymore except in the Amish community

Only thing I can think of to make it better, when you sliced/thinned the end where the buckle goes to fold it over, put that black leather dye on that to make it the same color as the belt and then do everything you did and it’ll be perfect. Had one of these leather belts made at a ren fest last year after my dad recommended getting one (he's had his for 7 years) and so far there's no fraying and still as strong as when I bought it. They're a little expensive but definetly worth it. The guy who made my belt said he's had his over 16 years. (Yes I'm wearing the belt rn 😎). Also a problem I seem to have with most belts is the part where I buckle to always falls apart after a couple weeks, so far no issue there.

Best place to get belts are ren fairs and similar. Mostly because they're all hand made and are normally 100% authentic leather.
