    Hello Chuck, I have a question about the buffalo crazy horse leather you used. Is it veg or chrome tanned? I always thought only veg tanned leather is used for belts... Thanks for all your informative videos. I think you have the best job in the world, especially with Weaver's shop to your disposal. :-)

    Great video. I was wondering what is the size punch used for the holes that were separated by 1/14 inch? I'm new to the craft.

      @WeaverLeatherSupply  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Chuck used a 5/32" size in the video but this can change based on your buckle tongue. If the buckle you are using has a heavier tongue, you will want to use a larger hole punch. Hope that helps!

    Chuck, can you “stamp” Crazy Horse Buffalo” belts? How would that come out? I see that you use “spots” and “Conches” on the Crazy Horse Buffalo belt blanks. Why not stamp the blank as well? How would it look on that blank? I noticed that the Crazy Horse Buffalo belt blanks shows up a lighter brown color when you bend it. I think that would look great if the stamping would come out a lighter brown against the darker belt blank. Please answer my comment because I’m getting ready to make ten belts. Five Crazy Horse Buffalo and Five Veg Tan. Thank you. Richard….

      Rule of thumb is whatever the width of your belt is, that is the size oblong hole to punch. So if your belt is 1-1/2", your oblong should be 1-1/2". Hope that helps!

    Good day! I wanted to ask you for advice and help. There is an interesting technique for painting leather belts, when the belt is painted with ordinary paint in one color. Then they make smudges with a slightly different paint. The result is a vintage vintage effect. That is, the end result is not a solid one color, but with smudges.
    There is some technique with the use of tampons, when it is necessary to carefully make smudges on the base paint. Can you tell me how to do this? I'll be very thankful!)

      Hi there!
      That sounds beautiful, but, unfortunately I have not heard of this or done it myself so I don't have any advice for you! I would see if there are any videos online or do some experimenting if you have some scrap leather.

    Very nice video indeed. Just one question, how would you re-dye car leather seats ? what kind of product would you use ?

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Abather
      You can refurbish the seats, but, I would advise against it. The best thing to do is to take it to someone who does this regularly. You can remove the top coat with Deglazer, re-dye and the add a new top coat, but, without some experience doing it you’ll have some inconsistency in the dye and top coat, or more seriously, rub-off.

    When i make belts i use 7-8oz veg tan but on some the raw side is really rough. An I’ve tried sanding it down to get it smooth but nothing i do helps. What do you suggest

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi David,
      You can use gum tragacanth and either a bone folder or glass burnisher and slick the raw side of the belt to get rid of the roughness. Hope that helps!

  • @xderiwx

    Hi Chuck!
    How would you measure for your belt length if you don’t currently have an old belt to reference?
    Thanks!

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If the belt is for yourself I would add the buckle and then loop the strap around your waist where you'll be wearing it and mark where the buckle tongue would be. That would be your center hole, add 2 holes on either side of that for your smaller and larger adjustment holes. If it's for someone else, you can take their pant size and add 6 inches for the measurement from the bend to the center hole but we wouldn't recommend it because pants sizes are not actual waist sizes and the likelihood of it being the correct size is pretty slim. Hope that helps!

    I want to make nice belts but i am just starting. I need to know necessary tools.

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Angela,
      For belts, we would suggest a wooden strap cutter, a round hole punch for the adjustment holes and the snap/rivet holes, and an edger. You can use the round hole punch and a box cutter to make your oblong hole for the buckle and the box cutter and a paper pattern to make your English point on the belt end. Or you can purchase an oblong punch and an English point punch but it's not necessary if it's not in your budget. For slicking the edges we would recommend a wooden slicker or a piece of canvas. That's really all you need to get started aside form your leather and hardware. Hope that helps!

    What size is the punch tool not the revolving punch. But the hand held one you can hit with a mallet

    • @WeaverLeatherSupply
      @WeaverLeatherSupply  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The punch was 5/32" but you'll just want to make sure it is large enough for your buckle tongue. A lot of makers will use a 3/16" as a default size for buckle holes.
