    Tucktec Heavy Duty Boto Comparison
    Sharon has thoroughly enjoyed her 2022 Tucktec Heavy Duty kayak. This year Tucktec has come out with the Boto kayak. In this video she will be comparing the two both on land and on water. She will talk about the assembly of both, overall specifications for both. She's going to talk about things that are the same and things that are different.
    With the assembly, six latches are on both kayaks. The latches on the Tucktec Heavy Duty kayak appear to be a bit more durable. With the Boto, the latches are velcroed together.
    With the dimensions, both kayaks are the same length. The Heavy Duty kayak is two inches wider than the Boto. The Heavy Duty is rounded at the front, so that you have a tad more room. The Boto sits flat.The width is 30 on the Heavy Duty while it's 28 on the Boto.
    The seat cushion on the Heavy Duty is 2 inches of foam, but the Boto has only maybe a quarter of an inch of foam. The Boto seat does have a back, but it isn't comfortable for Sharon. She will be using the Coleman stadium seat. It has four metal pieces on the outside, and it does provide some back support.
    Both of the kayaks are Coast Guard approved. Whatever kayak you may buy, having one that is Coast
    Guard approved is a safety thing. Another thing the two kayaks share is the warranty. These kayaks have a 90 day warranty. Both kayaks are made from recycled plastic. They are both made in the USA. Both kayaks are ten feet long. The assembly is relatively simple for both kayaks. If you can put one together, you can put the other one together.
    Now to the differences: The sticker price on the Heavy Duty is $350. The sticker price for the Boto is $250. Why is there a difference? The Heavy Duty is made from solid recycled plastic, while the Boto is made from corrugated plastic. That is what makes it so much lighter. The weight capacity for the Heavy Duty is 300 pounds, and the weight capacity for the Boto is 200 pounds. The Heavy Duty kayak weighs 28 pounds. (The 2024 weighs 26 pounds.) The Boto weighs 10 pounds.
    Sharon wanted a second kayak so that a friend can kayak with her. The biggest reason she has two kayaks is she travels with a kayak. On trips, a ten pound kayak is going to be much easier to take to the water,

    You sold me! I ordered both models that way I can go with a friend while at home and I can take the Boto on solo camping trips. I'm excited! I also ordered the Coleman stadium seat :)

    I just received my boto yesterday. Can’t wait to take it out! I’m so glad you mentioned the stadium seat. I assembled my kayak, sat in it and immediately hated it 😅 got my boto for $200 + shipping. $50 off. Check for those coupons!

    Another teacher here! I just took my Boto out for the first time. I thought the seat was really comfortable. Easy to put together and even though I forgot to put in the skeg, it didn’t steer too badly.
    Funny enough, I don’t think anyone would ever take this out of my car because it when it folds up, it looks like a science, fair board, lol
    When you travel, have you found a bag that you can store the kayak in?

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Congrats on your kayak!
      We travel with an RV pulled by a van. There is a place in back of the van where the kayak stands perfectly so I don't really need a bag. I think some people use some sort of gold bag with theirs.

      You are very welcome. Sharon fishes out of hers, so she bought a 2024 that weighs 20 pounds. She felt the Boto didn't carry as much stuff as she wants while she fishes.

    Excellent video! Thanks very much. I'm so close to buying a Boto, to add to my Tucktec collection. FYI, the 2024 Tucktec is now 20 pounds. Now I need one of those too.😂 I'm addicted.

    Really cool to see, I bought my tuck tech last summer 2023, and just this morning I opened it up for the first time to take it out this weekend. Trying to assemble it the first time 🥵😮‍💨 whew hard work, that last clip i couldn't get it was too tight, waiting to let it loosen up in the heat a bit. Any suggestions for breaking it in?

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      I got mine in Nov so I had to use space heaters to help. Once assembled I left it setup for a few days. When I folded it up I immediately set it up again and left it for a day and repeated the process a couple of times. That seemed to help.

    Have you ever tried the self inflating life vests? I haven't yet but they look a lot less bulky! But if it's more reassuring to have the foam style, I understand that.

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Good question. I briefly looked into them, but from what I learned these cheap ones have a higher Coast Guard rating because of no cartridge to expire.
      Compared to the "kayak" style pfds, these are more likely to right you if you are unconscious in the water, and on those hot summer days these allow for more airflow.
      Thanks for watching

    Will either float if tipped over? If yes, would you be able to get the water out and do a reentry without swimming back to shore?

    Is the boto more sturdy than the heavy duty or do they ride the same?

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Thanks for watching. To me it felt as though they handled the same on the water.
      The heavy duty is made out of more sturdy plastic and has more room. The 24 HDs weigh 20 lbs.
      If you are getting it just to paddle, the BOTO is a great lightweight option. If you want to fish or carry a dog etc., the HD gives more room.

    I’m 180 pounds and 5’9 and I bought the boto to go fishing, was that a bad idea or doable?

    • @TwoTiredTeachers
      @TwoTiredTeachers  16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Honestly, for fishing I think you would be much happier with the heavy duty. You will have more room and the 24s only weigh 20 lbs.
      If you change your mind and the BOTO hasn't shipped yet I would guess they could apply the money toward the heavyduty, or you could try it and if it doesn't work they would refund your money less shipping.

      Sharon particularly likes the Tucktec 2024 20 pound kayak. She likes the Boto, but it wasn't big enough for her to fish comfortably.
