Craziest festival in Bangkok? | Navratri Festival Thailand

  • The Navratri Street festival takes place in Bangkok (Thailand) every year and lasts for 8 days. The street festival takes place on the final day and begins at Wat Khaek temple, a Hindu temple on Silom Road. The festival stretches around an entire block in Sathon, the CBD of Bangkok.
Interestingly, this festival is a festival celebrated by people who practice and believe in Hinduism. However, I was told by a good Thai friend of mine that many Buddhist Thai people also celebrate this festival as a handful of Thai Buddhists believe in and celebrate the Hindu God, Durga.
In this video I begin on the usually jam packed street of Sathon Road and make my way to the famous Chong Nonsi Walkway. On this walk I experience people dancing, singing, lighting incense and paying merit to the multitude of shrines that lined the streets.
Eventually, we are asked to turn around as the parade starts making its way down the same street that we are walking. We turn around and head to a bridge where we watch the parade pass through.
The main attraction of the parade was the 3 Hindu Monk-like fellas, two of whom had massive blades stuck through the left and right cheeks. They walk through the streets where hundreds (maybe thousands) of people are sat. The Hindu-monk like guys throw powder onto these people who reach out to the monk and chant the same chant, desperately reaching out so that they too may be blessed. #navratri #festival #bangkok #thailand
It was a very interesting cultural experience.

Hindus and Buddhists celebrate together in India and Nepal and other places where there is Hindu Buddhist population. . Nepal is birthplace of Gautam Buddha( He was born to a Hindu Royal family) but Nepal is a Hindu majority country and Hindus and Buddhists together celebrate festivals there. There is like no difference.

But you ambedkarites have this blind hatred towards Hinduism , so that you don't want to relate Siddhartha Gautama with Hinduism. Your false pride is not allowing it .

The Navratri festival lasts for "9" days of fasting and praying basically those men with blade on their mouths are priests they are "mediums" the deities Kali Mariamman and Murugan are possessing them that's why they give blessings to people and the noodles that you just received is called "prasadam" which is a Blessed food whenever you go to hindu temples they give free food to you ,basically Navratri is a celebration to celebrate the triumph of Goddess Durga over Mahishasur who is a Demon Nav means Nine Ratri means Nights

Hinduism or originally known as Sanatana Dharma, i.e., the eternal way, consists of 12 schools, of which 6 are considered orthodox i.e. follow the Vedas and 6 not including Buddhism. The Buddha is considered the last Avatar of Lord Vishnu. I think the British divide and rule model did their best to create separation. We can see in Thailand that even the monarch holds the title of Rama. Quick check of non-western history can clear your doubts, my friend.
