We really struggle to create away in Europe. We may have to get used to these sort of performances but in these sort of games Martinelli has to score after Raya lept us in the game. The lack of chances created is becoming a pattern. Expect more of the same again vs City
At this point I wonder if we will try Zinchenko as an 8 at some point. I don’t want to see him at LB anymore and if he’s fit, why not see if he can do a job while we are waiting for Odegaard. It’s going to be a very long 2 months
I have a Partey theory: Arteta knows Thomas will pick up an injury at some point and so he's playing him now while the other midfielders are recovering/resting. This is much like the way Arteta played Eddie Nketiah a lot in the first half of last season and then not at all after January.
You’re the best James. Martinelli needs to find his form, along with Partey, the pair are painful to watch on the pitch. The double save from Raya had me lost for words, but sadly was the only highlight of the game. Cheers! COYG.
Very dull, but happy with the result and managing to sub off a few players, given the context. At the end of the season we won't remember this game, but we will definitely remember the NLD and this weekend's game
Crazy that Arsenal have lost the possession battle and played most of the game in their own half the last two games but I never worried about losing either. This defense is elite - maybe best in the world. Not feeling super confident about Sunday, but anything is possible with this defense.
It really was dull. That Raya double save was absolutely astonishing though. I think that point is fine away from home against such a good team... not great, but fine. But again, that Raya rebound save is save of the season so far. Unbelievable really.
It’s a rarity but I found it interesting that Mikel kept singling out Martinelli’s missed chances in every post-match interview he gave.. and I have to say he definitely has a point. I love Gabi but his poor form is starting to cost us.
During the first 30 minutes my brother and I joked that even if they took out partey and didn't replace him that would be an improvement. That turned out to be very much the case
James, what are your thoughts on Martinelli? He didn’t really use his pace to try and get round the back tonight. He didn’t do anything different. His crossing was poor. And the chance he did have showed a worrying lack of balance and composure. What are we to think? I increasingly feel that he needs a good game and soon. A moment of class to remind us of what he can bring to a party…
He needs a passing 8 to played in behind the full back, Declan rice is poor at that. Arteta will give 2 more games drop him then wait for merino to return I say
James we definitely miss martin we've tried a few players to replace him it's not worked ethan is the last shot if we don't solve this we will have to become a low block team too often
Can you please give us more than just another Partey blame sesh, brother? He is not the future and is filling in on old legs. How about Rice and Martinelli stinking up the joint regularly? Instead, Martinelli gets credit for his defensive play. Declan is giving us little on the ball so far this season. That left side's impotence makes it easy for opposition teams to clamp on our right-sided players and Partey, too. But when he screws up, no one talks about how teams are purposely clogging up his area and how that could be a consequence of a deficiency somewhere else. For example, "Martinelli has not scored in 16 games because Havertz is not a proper 8, the left back keeps changing, etc.
Thank you … I’m not a west ham fan and wasn’t waching Rice every week, but I’m quite shocked how little he offers in creativity. He doesn’t even attempt to make a simple pass between the lines that wound ignite any attacking move. Every pass he makes has to be 💯 safe otherwise he wouldn’t even try it. You can’t have a midfielder like that in a possession based team. I don’t want him to emulate Odegaard but at least try once to put a teammate through with a pass. Everything is safe backwards pass and every now and then he runs with the ball. That isn’t going to cut it if Odegaard is out for prolong time
Arsenal played a derby over the weekend, traveled for a tough match in Italy and play the current champions in 3 days. What did people actually expect?
Thats not an excuse. There hasnt been much chemestry in the team since the start of the season. The midfield has been awfull, Rice and partey are unrecognisable. Not complaining about the results but i am wondering if this is sustainable.
Ikr. Really tough run to start the season, Captain Ø out hurt, bullshit red for Rice gets him suspended for NLD, and we're still yet to concede a goal with 11 men on the pitch this season.
Calafiori was very decent in his 15 minutes or so. So f---king calm, decent ball carrier too. Partey looks miles off it, lethargic and sloppy. If he plays like that against City, we are in trouble.
It was a dull game, and I wonder if Arteta had a gameplan that was trusting the defense (and Raya!) to keep Atalanta off the scoresheet, and hope a moment of brilliance gets Arsenal three points. Didn't happen, so he's fine with the draw. (City also drew their first match, and their match was at home!). Focus is definitely on City on Sunday - I think he would take a point there as well. I've been concerned about Partey for months now. Just looks a shadow of the player he was. Wish they could've replaced him over the summer and shipped him off to Saudi Arabia. I hope Jorginho plays on Sunday as well.
A game of chess is always boring. Jesus looked like someone who had his first start following an injury clearly, Kai struggled a times in the third position in as many games and Gabby Martinelli needs a confidence boost as he continues to rush things which isn’t helping him (16 games without a goal).
James I wish you would explain why you thought Partey was so bad today? I did not notice. I thought he was taken off so that he would be fresher for City.
I agree, boring boring. I almost think I'm done. I've taken breaks before, sometimes not followed football at all for years. This seems like such a time, we are boring game after game.
Martinelli really is like a different player to what he was 2 years ago. Didn't reach his level last season and hasn't so far this season either, very alarming that it's been so long. Seems to me to be a lack of form and a confidence issue but at the same time it's been very long since he had a good game. His finishing has also declined... I don't think it's like he's been found out because I don't see him doing the stuff he used to do, really pushing down that left side and delivering cut backs and far post floaters, we really miss that Martinelli. It gave us such width and opened up many defences. Maybe it's Arteta trying to reshape the kind of player he is and him having trouble adapting.
Bad game from Jesus and Partey specially. Defense holds amazingly somehow at the cost of playing super negatively but I guess it is understandable as the team has had to be reshuffled following Odegaard's injury. Looked immediately better with Jorginho
Horrible game but I can see what Arteta is trying to do without Odegaard. Its going to take a few games before it clicks up top. Martinelli works hard and gets into the right positions but has no end product. Jesus seems more concerned with winning a foul than actually doing something meaningful and Partays legs have gone. All 3 will probably be gone next summer. I expect another dull performance on Sunday but I wont care as long as we dont lose.
So glad I didn't get up 3am here in Asia to watch that😂 Arteta really doesn't believe in resting players does he?..Yes! Trossard up front on Sunday!💪⚽️🙏🦵⚽️
Raya is absolutely incredible this season, saved us yet again.
Can we let Raya know he’s done enough to win the crowd? Would prefer the boring again haha
Win the crowd, David... win the crowd ❤🤍❤🤍
Really enjoying your informed, relaxed takes, wish you would upload more often.
Look up Arsecast Extra, him and Andrew do a pod together on twice a week for the most part. One of my favorites
That was a turgid affair… thank god for Raya ❤
We need better legs in the centre on Sunday James..I agree with you Jorginho Rice and havertz…
Knew it was gonna be a tough game. Both teams cancelled each other out completely in the end. But no dramas and we move on 🔴⚪️
David Raya is exceptional showing what confidence and consistency in the team and around him can bring he's showing his true ability
Didn’t fall asleep but it wasn’t a good game for the fans. Take the point away from home and go again against PSG 👍
We really struggle to create away in Europe.

1 goal conceded in 5 games -- and when we were down to 10 men
Raya massive
I have a Partey theory: Arteta knows Thomas will pick up an injury at some point and so he's playing him now while the other midfielders are recovering/resting. This is much like the way Arteta played Eddie Nketiah a lot in the first half of last season and then not at all after January.
Raya making a double save and Rio's expert analysis was "this is what they train for" 😂
Well, it’s not untrue. In the same way that he wears gloves
You’re the best James. Martinelli needs to find his form, along with Partey, the pair are painful to watch on the pitch. The double save from Raya had me lost for words, but sadly was the only highlight of the game. Cheers! COYG.
fair result, Rice and several others look gassed, happy with an away point & no new injuries... Raya es El Ray
Very dull, but happy with the result and managing to sub off a few players, given the context.
At the end of the season we won't remember this game, but we will definitely remember the NLD and this weekend's game
Thanks again James

I am now seriously worried about Martinelli! 😢

Partey cannot be starting against City, he looks so out of it
During the first 30 minutes my brother and I joked that even if they took out partey and didn't replace him that would be an improvement. That turned out to be very much the case
cancelled eachother plus got an eye on sunday.. my son is a keeper. coach says get up all the time. 🙈
James, what are your thoughts on Martinelli?

We need to find some attacking flair pretty soon 😬
Boring boring Arsenal... I love it. We would've lost that march in yesteryears
Arsenal played a derby over the weekend, traveled for a tough match in Italy and play the current champions in 3 days.

Are you losing weight James? You look great man!!
Calafiori was very decent in his 15 minutes or so. So f---king calm, decent ball carrier too. Partey looks miles off it, lethargic and sloppy. If he plays like that against City, we are in trouble.

Literally went sleep in the 1st half...but we move

Glad you're "done"! A whopping FIVE games into the season yeah? Don't let the door hit ya on the way out mate 😬
A four hour watch
Ooops, I survived that
As good as Partey was, he is but a shadow at this time.
The team is from Italy, not Georgia.
Havertz better start upfront against Cheaty. Jesus well off the pace.
Not feeling great about Partey this season. Sadly regressing rapidly
Reallly hope he sits Partey

Partey shouldn’t be playing 3 away games in 8 days. Too old for that. I think the plan is to start Jorginho Sunday though.
Extremely boring, but a point away is alright.
Hot take: Sell Martinelli and Jesus, they do nothing atm.
💤💤💤
Nothing up front, injuries, not looking good.
Horrible game but I can see what Arteta is trying to do without Odegaard. Its going to take a few games before it clicks up top. Partey will be gone next summer. Not so sure about Jesus. Definitely don't see Martinelli leaving without something drastic occurring.
yesh... that was bad
Not you. This was soooo dull.
Haha you look like a baby when you shave
Any chance you could refrain from constantly rubbing your head? Really distracting from otherwise sound analysis.
So glad I didn't get up 3am here in Asia to watch that😂 Arteta really doesn't believe in resting players does he?..Yes! Trossard up front on Sunday!💪⚽️🙏🦵⚽️
