Damn, I didn't realized it was you who did the model yesterday, you did an awesome job and beat me to that project idea. I am going to study it for reference on how you rigged it. I might try my hand for the Zeta Plus instead. by the way is this a straight copy from the Master Grade model manual or did you take any liberties on the design too. By the way have helped inspire in my blender modeling, keep up the good work dude.
Thanks! Most of the model is the same as the Master Grade since that's how I was able to make the transformation work, but I did make some design changes to the overall armor and the proportions of the chest & head. Good luck with modeling the Zeta Plus - it's a great design, and it will definitely help you understand armatures in Blender.
this looks awesome I'm just curious about if its able to be used as a VRChat model cause this looks like a cool thing to use for VRChat animated models (while following the T.O.S of this blender project)
Would it be possible to get a coloured version of the reference planes it will be very helpful since you can't really differentiate some parts from the other
This is insane! I wish I was at a higher level. Out of curiosity, do you have a tutorial (paid/free) that goes through how you made this model? Narrated or just keystrokes. Either way, thank you very much for sharing! Kudos 👏
Thanks! I do have two time-lapses with the keystrokes on my channel, but no modeling tutorials currently. Is there a topic you want to learn more about in particular?
@@mJeff3D Thank you. Good question, and a tough one to answer. As an engineer, I use 3D softwares ( the look, and approach, intent is different...and frankly much much simpler than what you create). I started learning Blender 5 months ago, as a hobbyist. It was very different and confusing at first; but, I am slowly getting better (thanks to ppl like yourself for sharing their wealth of knowledge/expertise). As in any process, this requires dedication and time. I came across your channel 4 weeks ago (subscribed, knowing, I am not at a level to comfortably follow along, but being able to, coherently, is the ultimate goal). More directly, I want to get good at hard surface modeling/rendering, animation (next life!). Anyway, just wanted to say thank you! Your level of work is insanely good.
I have a video planned about different hard-surface modeling methods, but in the meantime I can recommend this course for you to make sense of modeling in Blender: cgmasters.gumroad.com/l/zTVHi
@@mJeff3D Thank you very much!🌳🌞 I will take the course. On a tangent, when it comes to Mecha (メカー); are there any books with good blueprints/sketches that you know of? I have a couple of books by Katsumi Itabashi (零士メーターから始めるSFメカの描き方) .
I highly recommend any of the Mobile Suit Archive books illustrated by Kyoshi Takigawa. They have very inspiring and detailed art, especially the Zeta Gundam and RGM-79 books!
Everyday is different depending on the projects I'm working on. I try not to work over 10 hours a day to avoid burnout. Not sure if that's what you're asking.
Combining all of the objects is the best solution in my experience. It’s a bit of a process, but you should be able to following along with these steps: With the S-Gundam Armature selected, under the object data properties, set the armature to the Rest Position. Select a random object that is part of the S-Gundam model (while in Object Mode) and press Shift+G to select Grouped - choose > Siblings All of the individual objects of the S-Gundam model will be selected. In the header of the 3D viewport window, click on Object > Convert > Mesh With all of the converted objects still selected, press Ctrl+J to join them all into one object. Under the Modifier Properties tab, add an Armature Modifier and choose the S Gundam Armature as the associated object. There will be some strange shading artifacts from the Auto-Smooth, but in order to fix this, go under the Object Data Properties of the joined S-Gundam object, expand the Geometry Data section and select “Clear Custom Split Normals Data”. Put the armature back into the Pose Position and you're ready to animate. Hope this helps!
You can export the UV unwrapped version as an .fbx or you can find an exporter add-on. Personally, I've been using the Xolotol add-on for about three years now and it saves a lot of time - xolotlstudio.gumroad.com/l/fTRFN
Hey i'm trying to make a game where a gundam-like mecha is the main character. Do you think you could model & rig? Willing to pay whatever your rate for commission is.
Sure, send me an email (address can be found here: artstation.com/mjeff/profile ) and I can give you a quote. Pricing would be the similar to the gig I have posted on Fiverr - ( fiverr.com/share/30eom9 )
"Don't trust autosave..." - 3D Jeff, iconic.
But seriously this is one of the most clear and well presented videos I've seen!
Thank you very much. S Gundam is my favourite Mobile Suit. It's done great and your videos are very beautiful. Thank you very much again
Woooow, you are a G for this. Can't wait to dig in and learn how you did this. Thank you!
This is an excellent presentation Jeffery! I am very impressed with your talents. Keep up the great work!
Jeff, this is AMAZING!! Definitely looking forward to your next video
Great Job Jeff! This new video format and narration is awesome!🎉🎉🎉🎉

Hey, I've been thinking about blender and one day make something similar, but where did you get the reference images for the gundams? :) Thanks!
You can get the files from my Gumroad page, but I made the planes from the decal guides included in the Master Grade model kits
@@mJeff3D Thanks for answering! As I suspected, seems hard to dig up some but I have the manual for the I want to do :).
There are questions.
Did you model the Gundam with Blender?
Or did you model the Gundam with Z-Blush?
I modeled this in Blender, but I re-meshed some boolean objects in Z-Brush
Would it be possible to get a coloured version of the reference planes it will be very helpful since you can't really differentiate some parts from the other
Have you tried adjusting the opacity in the Object data Properties of the reference planes?
@@mJeff3D Its not really the opacity its more like on some parts you cant really tell one part from the other especially in side view.

Just curious, what is your work flow like with your daily life ?

@3D Jeff Allen oh I see, yeah cuz like I have kids and a wife and a job so I literally have to stay up at night to even try to work on this type stuff
I have a rookie question, when i try to pose it and animate on blender goes mad slow, any solution? amazing work!

I wanted to buy your reference files from gumroad but I don't see paypal only credit card, are there any options for payment?
Jeff can I ask a question?
Bro is this project free? I've never use Gumroad before.
