    Is it weird that I got misty-eyed looking at a bunch of tiny trees? They are just so awe-inspiringly beautiful.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I saw my first full size Kapok tree, it was like an awakening or an almost spiritual experience! It was like that when I saw a full size Baobab tree for the first time also. Grand old trees just seem to make us humble and in awe.

      @@TheBonsaiZone A grand, old tulip tree has the same effect on me. They grow so straight and tall and proud, hiding their gorgeous blooms in the canopy... should one of their unique flowers fall to the earth, it's almost magical to find them. You don't get to see them otherwise.

    This is Ross, your neighbor from Brampton. It was good to see you at the show. Your video style really captures the detail and movement of the trees. I can only imagine how different a spring show would be without the stunning red maples, but with flowering magnolia and azalea. Good luck with you new green house.

    I don't know why...but I am always seeing Dancers in the Bonsai trees. I have no dance background. I'm not particularly interested in dance. But I can soooo see graceful dancers in almost all these trees. Thank you for sharing, Nigel. You always put together such a beautiful video for us.

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael in our club describes trees as ballet dancers when you are driving by them in a car, it's like the tree is rotating showing off all it's angles! I really like trees with flowing branches, it is like the lines of a dancer.

    I think it would also be really wonderful if you could choose a few trees and talk about them, what you like and some insight into its beauty. I know probably you can't film and talk at the same time... maybe dubbing? Just a thought...

      I thought about doing that, I was going to make this a different kind of show video, but I thought it's better to have everyone make up their own mind about which trees they liked or disliked. I'm just one opinion and my tastes might be totally different from anyone else's. I just try and enjoy each tree and find the good in it!

    It would be very cool for bonsai show organizers to ask for the number of years in training for each submission then total it up and include that as a factoid for the show. To think, there is probably over a thousand years (several?) Worth of training sitting at this show. Such dedication!

    I really have enjoyed all your videos! They are just great! One small critique though, that camera you switched to a while back does look nice under the canopies, but it does not react well to movement. Lots of blurring, guess it the price you pay for the frame of reference.

      The Cedar group was fantastic! I'll keep growing my trees and refining them over the years. Next year, I'll be doing some landscaping, adding rocks etc, to give it a Northern feel. It should be really fun working on it. The roots have grown really well after re potting the clump this spring. It will need re potting again this coming spring. It is beginning to rise out of the pot!

    Very captivating video. My thoughts; the Boxwood (8:45), Juniper (14:27), and especially the Juniper at 18:30 with the highly developed character of it’s bark and dead branches, all really looked like and had the feeling of mature, natural trees. The Star Magnolia at 15:10, with it’s buds swollen, was very impressive. I have to say that for me the Porcelain Berry at 4:20 was a real stand out. The leaves were small, well shaped, (leaf shape can vary in this species), and some still green, some fall - yellow. The berries varied in size and were nicely exhibiting their white to blue transitioning colors. The vines were arranged in such a way as to lend it the substance and structure of a weeping tree, while not emasculating the sense of wild vigor that this plant demonstrates in habitat. ~ Side note: this plant from south east Asia has become extremely invasive in areas of the U.S. , ex. Virginia. It can literally smother whole forest!

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The boxwood is a tree originally developed by the American bonsai artist Nick Lenz. It was part of a Boxwood forest originally. The Juniper has a really nice tall tree style, it was one of my favorites also!
      The Blue rug Junipers were also developed by Nick Lenz, he is also responsible for the root over Demon planting near the beginning of the video!
      Here is a link to more of his creations....

      I don't have any, I would try looking up full size trees in Google images and see what styles they naturally grow in. We do have a plum tree in our back yard and it grows in a conical shape when young. I'd look for a style that inspires you and one that suits the tree you have.

      That is a Ginkgo biloba, they look really nice in fall, then all the leaves seem to drop in a short period of time.

    What cost you pay for Green house?

    • @TheBonsaiZone
      @TheBonsaiZone  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It was about the same cost as a new 10 X 12 hobby greenhouse. it is very hard work taking it apart, but it is keeping me in good shape also!

    Please invest in a filming light. All the backgrounds are too light and the detail on the trees too dark and lost.

      Thank you Simon, a light would be interesting to try out. I'll have to save up my money!

      Thank you for your answer. I've been following your videos for one or two months and it gave me a lot of motivation to start my own bonsais. I have now 7 small trees and I'm looking forward to add some more in my collection. Greetings from Brussels, Belgium

    Compared to your trees,
    there is nothing special about these bonsai.
    They all look extremely standardized.

      No one told Einstein to cut his hair. Nigel is the "Einstein" of the Canadian Bonsai world. His hair is perfect just the way it is. Would you like someone telling you, that you look horrible? No...? Then don't do that to someone else.
