Nice vid mate keep it up.
I am a policeman in Europe and where I work we do not routinely carry firearms but we do get issued a 16inch wooden truncheon similar to the billy club you have. In my opinion these types are better as like you say there is nothing to go wrong with it ss its a solid stick and because it is compact its more versatile to use in a confined space. Once again keep up the good work!!!

Here in Brazil, the name for police baton is "cassetete", from French "casse-tête", that means "head breaker".
This is because our State Police was trained by French Army instructors up to when WWI beginned. They returned to France in 1914 to fight in the trenches. So, French terminology was incorporated to Brazilian police language.
Usually our LE uses a bit shorter version of PR-24 (23"), because the average Brazilian is not too tall like an average American, or hard rubber 23-inch baton. Wooden batons were abolished in most states.
Expandable batons are forbidden by internal regulations in some PD's, as well for private security (only wood and rubber batons are allowed by Private Security Law, from 1983 and still vigent).

To my knowledge a lot of the cam lock style batons will “fail safe” in the locked out position if the internals fail, so despite being silly long even when closed it should be ok. Personally I still prefer my old acrylic 24”. I know that is really unlikely to break or do anything weird.

I’m 6’4” and a cop and still wouldn’t carry that big ass black baton on regular patrol. Seems like it would be a huge pain in the butt.
I have my grandfather’s baton from his State Police days (1950s-60s) and it’s my favorite. It’s around 26” long, oak with and literally just a hardened club. Resembles a longer version of that little black billy club.

2:16 earlier this year I bought a polycarbonate Monadnock brand TPS-36 riot baton, built largely like this wooden one with moulded grenade grips on each end. I had no idea until I saw your video that they were intended for holding people back. I thought they were designed that way so it didn't matter which end you grabbed and swung.

The other main benefit for a short Billy club is that you can fight at long or close range without needing to change techniques.Someone can close in on you to neutralize a longer batons striking capabilities, forcing you to switch to grappling locks and butt strokes.

The pushback baton blows my mind. How does that work when people get agressive and start kicking and hitting you with objects or start throwing rocks bricks.. ? I'd prefer a good shield and a long striking baton (or asp baton would do the trick) You can close the line with the shields and start striking when people don't back off. Mace can be apllied where needed. Watercanons are highly effective in support. The views on crowd controle in US are so different from Europe. Check the streetbattles in Paris with the "Gillets Jaunes", those battles were ruthless..

    • @adamwilson7811

Thats was a good video, also great timing too. Just a few days ago, there were some riots that were happening in my area (I live in Australia). While looking out my window, I saw how the police equipped themselves. Most of the police officers who were attending to the riot were all carrying solid fixed batons. There were some who had expandable batons on their belt, but even they were going for fixed solid batons. The only ones who were carrying expandable batons (16 inch ones) were the rear line or back up police officers who were doing the arrest. I also noticed that if were close up or in a crowd, the tended to use shorter Billy Clubs or Maglites.

I'm a WWII reenactor, and we have an original 1940-vintage military police baton that we carry in impressions sometimes. It's made of beautifully polished mahogany, and we're 95% sure it has a lead shot filling. It's absolutely gorgeous, and the idea of using it on another human being scares the hell out of me (it's just too heavy to be reliably safe in my clueless, civilian opinion). Still, holding it you understand the full implication of the expression "mahogany shampoo." :-/
