Platform is Basically a CB lancer (CC for Australia, 4G Mirage states side). So EVERYTHING pretty much from a 1992-1995 Lancer works, except for the body panels (longer trunk, and different front). In Trinidad and Tobago, we mainly would cut the trunk and also swap the front to the lancers, due to the lack of parts availability for proton itself. Most would get an EVO floor and just weld it in for AWD, then go have fun.
Back in the day in the U.K. there was a couple of proton personas with the evo running gear and AWD done with the evo rear subframe and a short driveshaft
Getting JDM halfcuts in Malaysia is as easy as you going to your backwood wreckers in the US :P. JDM engine swaps in Malaysia is as common as your LS swaps in the US.
There is a popular local Malaysian dish called 'rojak', which is a sweet and savory fruit and vegetable snack, which originated from readily available ingredients across different culture and ethnicity groups.. The name rojak means mixture, the car modification culture in Malaysia have adopted the similar principle - making the best out of what we have access to, and it tastes bloody good.

Hi man I'm so glad you're in Malaysia. There's a weird/interesting car from Malaysia as well - Bufori. Would love it if you have the chance to do some videos on them
welcome to Malaysia, the capital of Evo conversion. chances are if you saw an evo here, most likely it's a converted one (there's a lot of them around, you can find standard evo sedan, evo coupé and even an evo hatchback)
used to own 1 with a 4G92 Mivec engine. The pull is just enough as this particular chassis is not well known for its handling abilities. Sold it in 09' and I miss the times driving it
Bro, you gotta understand, proton was based on Mitsubishi, so its 70 percent Evo, so you can just use body part, interior, enjin gearbox and 4wd part to make it 95 evo. Only difference will be the chassis, evo chassis is stiffer. Similarly cedia has similar chassis with evo but not as stiffer, so you can make it evo 95 percent.
The only similarity between a proton wira and mitsu evo is the look. That's it. The chassis of a Proton wira 1.5l is the same design but not as tough as a mitsu evo3 although it can be fully converted to look like an evo3. There's a much better and stronger chassis Proton Wira which is a limited edition Proton Wira 1.8 which has better chassis than a normal Wira.
They just have 2 sheet metal BS reinforcement at the front strut tower and the rear X brace that it LOL so yeah! they are the same thing, also you can reinforce way better any of those cars better (at least Mitsubishi mirage's)
@@Darth_yoyo Chassis altering mods are outlawed in this part of the world. Eh, if it was AWD.... It's a 4G63 swap. I've seen it stuffed into a tiny Hyundai and had to fix the electrical on it at 2am after it started cutting out on acceleration after destroying everything on Gratiot Ave back in the early 2000's There's a video of it racing a prototype SRT ram somewhere on the Internet. You can actually hear it cutting out on the video lol. Had a 2x6 for a dashboard. Front 5x15 from the donor car and 4x14 stock rear wheels lol Total pos sleeper.
I've seen some of these "fake" Evos for sale in the US....buyers be careful And it may have the motor and drivetrain, but it doesn't have the extra spot welds, chassis stiffness, etc.
Most of them would have already done chassis reinforcement anything that is running more than 400hp will need to have the chassis done otherwise the chassis will crack especially this proton
The putra is basically a Mirage/Colt from the early 90s
Mirage Asti to be exact
Astri
after this video come out from Larry channel, all PROTON WIRA, PUTRA resale price rocket fly

You guys also got Proton in Trinidad? Or did you guys only import the parts from Malaysia?
it's illegal to swap non awd car to awd here in malaysia .. that's the reason not many people opt for it
Ayyyyy thanks larry! Youre the best 🥳
"We have Subaru 22B at home"
"We have DSM at home."
“We have Mirage at home”
Go check out the Prodrive version of the Putra. Looks almost identical to one
That look so good. It also very getting popular in Australia people convert proton jumbuck ute in EV0 3 awd ute.
The Putra is now rare and also pricey as well. The platform of it was introduce from 1999 to 2001.
Finally , the wiralution/putralution expose to the world😂😂😂 , damn miss those old days😅

I visited Malaysia a few times and I fell in love with Protons
Neatest part of the conversion is the rear tail lights from the lancer sedan onto a coupe! 👍🏻
For those who don't know the Proton Putra is based on Mitsubish Mirage Asti
He should mention this type can convert to Lancer Evolution
1. Proton Wira: Sadan 4door
2. Proton Putra: Coupe 2door
3. Proton Satria: Hatchback 2door
Proton Arena/Jumbuck: Ute 2 door
From what I remember Mitsubishi sold Proton all of its tooling for the Mirage/Colt/Lancer platform.
Car cultures around the world are just crazy, awesome video :)
man! i've always wanted to drive one of these 2 door evos! it's so awesome! congrats Larry!

I always prefered Putra over Satria GTi.
Malaysia boleh! Proton ftw!
Interior the seats are similar to Evo One but they are Proton Putra factory Recaro seat known as Enjoy! Evo 2 n 3 are different look and shape!
its rarely convert to rear EVO because not many bodyshop can do the one that can pass road legal inspection.

well, bufori was originally from Australia but now is based off in Malaysia.

Also Evo pickup 😅😅
Putra pon dah rare, sumbat pulak bontot evo 3
Tapi cun aaa
Dia kena try proton arena evo pulak
Proton putra is basically Mitsubishi mirage asti.
That' not a evolution... It's a revolution
Malaysia:
JDM produced 100 units only.. but you can find 300 of it in here
😂
This is the Evo Mitsu never bothered to make
coupe Evo 3 that never exist
could compete with impreza coupe back in the day if it was exist

Such a sick ride. Love it.
The owner doesn't even need to wear seat belts 🤣
The original actually more resembled of the, "Subaru Impreza WRX STi Coupe" AKA Subie 22B instead.
A lot of power in a fwd is always fun
Damn i thought larry was gonna visit supra GTO's car which was AWD
Thank you for reviewing our favourite and my personal car❤️❤️
Tak prnah tengok putra ni ,nice dri side nampk mcm subaru impreza sti. Mcm ala2 sabaru mix dgn evo3
You need to mention that Proton Wira and Putra are the rebadge from Mitsubishi Lancer. That is why most parts can be swap and PNP.
Never thought Larry gonna come by Malaysia
Proton Putra is basically a Mitsubishi MR
Mirage Asti to be specific
Gila gila lah Mike speaking 😂😂
Those rear set lamp and reflector is rare by now... last time i survey it 1.5k for the reflector😢
Great to see gen z are into JDM cars

Now you have to find a proton arena evo ute!
This is insane. love it

Now I'm imagining an Evo III 2-door coupe...👀
yup we had it in malaysia. got 2-3 people did it with kansai service kit
just find a mirage asti and install evo 3 engines and parts.....
For the rear you just use a regular sedan not need for a “evo 123”
That recaro wira c99
Hee Wei Seng needs to have a look at this
How are they using the evo awd transmission in fwd form?
lock the transfer case
He makes it sound like a difficult concept....
sick car
Sick. They would like my Mirage cup car.
nicely done car...
Maaan … that’s what I call a Hawker spec Evo !

Why
Why? You don't see a 2 door Evo anywhere.
@@channe3049 So?

2 door Evo’s have been a thing since 1990-1999, it’s called the Eclipse GSX… 4G63 turbo engine and early evo AWD drivetrain basically.
And Plymouth laser
It’s a Mirage Asti.
So, what was the point of cutting up the back?
to fit the evo 3 taillight and bumper , the putra dont look like this from factory
Proton Putra = Mitsu Mirage Asti Coupe
Satria GTI come on
