Schoenberg - 6 Little Piano Pieces Op. 19 (1911)

One of my favorite sets of pieces. The performance of these pieces is sorcery!
The first five of this set were written in one day on February 19th, 1911 and originally would be the entirety of the set. Number 6 was written and added almost 4 months later on June 17th, 1911.
Schoenberg (1874-1951) believed he was among the lineage of divinely inspired German composers. Despite how unconventional his music was (and still is), he saw himself as a staunch musical conservative and deeply refuted the idea of him being a revolutionary. He viewed the direction of his music as a continuation and extension of an existing tradition.
