What about people who want to be homeless? There are a lot in LA county who actually want to be homeless. It’s kind of fun and you save money on rent☺️

@@tannermeyers I worked to house the homeless for many years. I met three war veterans that "wanted" to be homeless. They had PTSD in a way that kept them fearful of being enclosed. Other than that, NOBODY in all my years of trying to help the homeless - wanted to be homeless. It's time to guarantee all people housing. Rent shouldn't be so high (or wages so low) that people are forced to live on the street. That's insanity.
There are now adult homeless people that were born homeless. They start drug use at a really young age when born into homelessness. The number of homeless that are born on the street, and that were recently forced onto the street because of economic failures, far outnumbers the number of people that "slipped through the cracks" of society over the last several decades. The population is growing, and will continue to do so at a faster and faster pace. Once homeless, people need serious help and resources to reintegrate into society. The problem will eventually be too big to solve.
It's also a public health issue. Not just the exposed germs from Covid. That's actually negligible compared to the germs accumulated by unwashed people and belongings, as well as human excrement etc.
In California, the crisis has gotten so bad, I moved out of the state. It was my home for 35 years, but it got to the point that homeless people are on every street corner. When I would drive through the state, homeless people were even at every middle-of-nowhere truck stop or highway gas station. Not just the city. It's a disgrace. People are starting to wake up to it.
Addiction issues. It is true that nearly every person forced into homelessness finds a substance to abuse. Poor living conditions, and an abusive economy drives people to substance abuse. Not many people find themselves exempt from doing the same thing. Hell, most people with a home have a substance abuse issue in America today. Think opioids, adderall, booze etc.
Our generations did not invent this society that fails so many people, but it is up to us to solve the problem. It's an utter disgrace.

As noted in The Quote Verifier and other sources, Lincoln’s phrase “government of the people, by the people, for the people” is the best known use of the of/by/for the people formula, but Lincoln probably adapted his version from a similar phrase used in the 1850s by abolitionist preacher Theodore Parker .

Decades ago, Downtown LA was known for the greatest number of deaths due to cold temperatures. People come to LA thinking that it will be warm, and the cold weather around Christmas time catches them off guard. I lost my condo in Simi Valley as a result of the 1987 Director's Strike. That was the end of the American Dream® for me. I bought a 1975 International school bus and spent 6 month turning it into my home. At the beginning of the 1988 Writer's Strike, we moved into the bus. We first tried to live at the beach, but were rousted by the police who said "See these homes? (speaking about the houses in the Pacific Palisades) They pay taxes. You don't pay taxes, so you have to leave". When I challenged them to quote chapter and verse about the law that we have to move, they asked me "What? You don't trust police?" I said that they are known to at times be arbitrary. The cop said "Let me show you how arbitrary we can be", and proceeded to write tickets for things like no front license plate. We then moved to the Artist Loft District in Downtown LA, and were primarily there of 4.5 years. The homeless there didn't consider us homeless since we had the bus. The police didn't bother us there, as long as we respected the 72 hour law to move the bus parked on the street...

In the United Kingdom many of us are campaigning for a Universal Basic Income (here £20k per annum) that is designed to provide a house or flat, good quality food and recreation like sports or cinema. Unfortunately we were unable to get this in place for the start of the Pandemic but it has to be a major part of the solution in a post pandemic UK. In the short term I believe we should build temporary accommodation for homeless people a bit like after
World War Two when we build many thousands of what there then called prefabricated buildings (or prefabs for short).

How long will the American people accept such conditions for their fellowman and the apologetic excuses of the politicians for doing nothing to solve them?
When is enough enough, or better said, when begins the pressure on politics to implement the urgent needed legislation. And that´s "only" ONE life threatening circumstance people have to endure in the wealthiest country on earth, who´s not tired of wasting money on the war machine and feeds only ever the ever greedy!

My uncle was an officer in Hungary, part of his job was the legal displacement of Gypsies living on the street through force. He and other officers were ordered by the city to confiscate and burn the possessions of all Gypsies living on the street to force them to go elsewhere. Most officers obeyed the order. My uncle refused and resigned. He placed ethics above the law and his job as any truly good human would.

Don't worry people, there are 14 new billionaires in 2020 and the stock market is doing great! /sarcasm
Imagine actually giving jobs to construction/sanitation workers to BUILD houses waste disposal etc.? You could even make your own fucking bricks if you think about it, but the way property laws and construction works these days in most of the west, you can't build anything without jumping through hoops and having a valid address. But of course the empty housing is already there, it's just that if it was too easy for people to not be homeless/drug addicts/criminals/disabled, than the cops wouldn't be needed to bully people off the street to give Karen's a sense of security she deserves. Gotta protect the pig jobs! Sick fucking world.
