I am writing this from the Carmnella pizzeria. I just finished the pizza and it was thr best pizza I have ever had. Thank you for showing us this gem, Vincenzo. I love you.

When I was a boy in the 1970’s we would eat at an Italian pizza restaurant in Lutwyche (Brisbane). I cannot remember the name. The atmosphere was always warm, welcoming, and gave the sense of family. The highlight for me was the deep fried calzone, sadly I’ve searched and have never tasted or experienced any calzone or pizza like it since. It would arrive on the plate ballooned up, the excitement to cut through it and reveal the steaming contents of melted cheese, and other ingredients. Most of all when I think of the calzone, I think ham, so there was definitely ham, the rest I cannot remember. That’s my favourite pizza!
Thank you for sharing this with me; it's amazing how food can transport us back to happy memories, and as much as we'd like to relive them, we can't always find them because they've changed their brand, gone out of business, or we've simply forgotten where they are. We often only remember the good times we had while eating that dish. And that's okay; I have a calzone recipe on my website that you might want to try out sometime and relive that memory. Here's a link to that recipe on my website: www.vincenzosplate.com/fried-calzone-recipe/
