@@hresvelgr7193 To be fair, a water landing with how much implied damage he had would've shredded his plane and killed him anyways, but I'm just joking.
The Belkans are actually pretty smart when it came to planning Wardog's execution the first time around. First of all, Belka had to know that Wardog was participating in the ceremony. Then, Belkan spies in Osea would've had to open up a hole in Osea's defenses, have Yuketobania know about said hole, and plan an attack during the ceremony guised as a terror attack on the stadium. Finally, have the 8492nd squadron on stand-by with a jammer to lead off any Osean reinforcements in hopes that the bought time would be enough for the Yukes to shoot down Wardog. Unfortunately for them, they underestimated the skill of Wardog squadron, only succeeding in downing one of them.
@@cybercat7851 It is also heavily implied that Chopper was suicidal. Canonically, Chopper would have been flying the F14 Tomcat... And the Ejection system is analogue, meaning that unless Chopper's cockpit was on fire, as in the fire was right under his seat, the Ejection system would have still worked. Chopper just did not want to eject. The Circum-Pacific war had taken its toll on his Mental state.
Ah, Journey Home, shame the dogfight is locked behind that annoying ceremonial flight. How nice of you to give Chopper the F-14A so that he doesn't die alone, a fact that no one in the game will ever acknowledge! :D I had never noticed it before, but it does seem the enemies tend to engage Chopper more than the rest of the team in the first section, that's a pretty nice touch.
"Why didn't he drop the plane in the river or break off and drop it in the mountains?" Because that's not the reason he stuck around. He was concerned about civilian casualties in the stadium. The longer he gave the Yukes something to shoot at they weren't shooting the stadium. It wouldn't have mattered if Chopper had the perfect place to bail out. He was staying in the sky to do all he could till the last possible moment. Unfortunately, he misjudged how damaged his plane was and how little time he had to escape.
Definitely a fun, hectic furball. Especially noteworthy for AC5 considering how rarely that actually happens. Chopper's death would have more weight if it affected the characters at all outside of a single mention in a later mission. And if it wasn't mind bogglingly stupid. (Can't bail out over a river! Which is especially insulting considering what happens three missions from now. Goddamn it, AC5.) Dat ace tho. Sweet color scheme.
when I first played this game I was like 8 years old I remember giving chopper a shitty plane for this mission for some reason. And when he crashes I thought it was because I gave him a bad plane lol
I like the concept of doing a fly-over though. It'd be cool if in the future they allow you to go to specific portions of a mission, like Uncharted 4 allows.
I remember hearing the brief for this mission. "You will be fully armed in case of an emergency." "Yeah, yeah, I know what's coming." Spoiler alert: I did NOT know what was coming...
really the mission has to change the narrative of the story where you go from casting death constantly to then coming back as a hero. Similar to the story of Razgriz that it draws from. So yeah, it seems silly but it's meant to move the plot forward and probably highlights an aspect of war not really discussed all that often.
Binh Nguyen the river always increased your chance to survive. Also the ejection seat failed because chopper kept waiting for the stadium to clear. What a dumbass to the end
Some speculation suggests that Chopper was outright suicidal. He certainly wasn't feeling right for most of the war by now, so when he takes damage, he could have been feigning the busted seat (i mean, how likely is a seat to break without the same shrapnel instakilling the pilot?) to get an excuse to end it all quickly.
Out of curiosity, what happens if you say "no" at the beginning or if you fail to stay in formation? I never had the guts to do it before and I no longer have AC5 so I can't attempt it myself.
Most of the time, those choices don't make any differences. except for some occasions that you would have different missions by saying yes or no during the previous mission before the coin toss by perrault.
I was watching the entire fight.. vengeance for chopper... I wanna play this game more than anyone just to avenge him...I wanna kill those yukes more than anyone... And only then because all of Razgriz was so blind that they couldn’t see the river to set down in right next to them…
R.I.P. Chopper
And perhaps they orchestrated the crash at Mcknealy AFB.
@@cybercat7851I've thought about that... that river has a lot of low bridges running over it... One wrong move there and a ton of people go with you.

That missing man formation or salute made me cry even more back then.
This one of the most aggressive pilots I've seen on youtube lmao
I do try!
"We were really smooth up there."
Nah man, Blaze messed up the aileron roll on the first overhead pass.
Chopper's never gonna hit those notes.

We need some kind of mod that lets Chopper survive if you kill everything :(. When I was young I'd fly for hours trying to keep him safe
