- "Middle Fork" is a short film following our adventures camping three days in Red River, New Mexico, and hiking the tallest mountain in the state, Wheeler Peak. Far from being a simple camping trip, this expedition holds real meaning for each of us, and is destined to push us further and deeper than we ever could have imagined. From camp breakfasts to off road drives, Middle Fork tells the story of determination and unexpected victory in the forests of New Mexico.

What a tough journey! Thanks for sharing
This was amazing work man, intro is phenomenal! Love it 👏👏
Thanks so much! I really liked how the intro/trailer came together. Appreciate you watching!
Outstanding work Levi!!! Very impressive.
Thanks so much! Appreciate you checking it out!
Fantastic video! Just remember that part of reaching a goal is taking the time to enjoy the journey! Sure you could have booked it up there but you would have missed everything along the way. I am thinking making it a two day hike would be wonderful. None the less, well done all and thank you for taking us along.
For sure. On the way down we were actually talking about trying to come back and make it an overnight backpacking trip possibly 🤷🏻♂️ We'll see if it happens. Thanks for watching, D!
Great video. I will say, you chose the longest route. There are trailheads that would get you to the top and down in a timely manner. Heading down the mountain isn’t climbing the mountain. Planning and the ability of every hiker in the group is crucial. Keep exploring the outdoors. Thank you for documenting such a dope experience.
Thanks for the encouragement!
We didn't explain it in much detail in this video, but a few years ago we did do one of the shorter routes that is less intense, and made it to the peak successfully. This time we wanted to try a different route, but it didn't work out too well... 😄
Thanks for watching and commenting!

I really enjoy your style in this video. It is very cinematic, and you have a knack for storytelling.
A minor correction: the highest drivable peak (by the general public) in New Mexico is actually Cerro Vista at 11,939'. I believe there are private ski service roads and old mining roads that go up even higher to Frazer Mountain (~12,163'), Tesuque Peak (12,047'), and close to the summit of Baldy Mountain (~12,441').
Thanks, and thanks for watching! Good to know about the drivable peaks. Somewhere I had heard it was Greenie, but thanks for clarifying.
@@ljmproductions1 a good reason to go back to NM :)
Is the road to Frazer mountain open to the public? I've often thought that would be a cool road to drive.
@@isaacmontgomery9203 no, but I do think it's open for mountain biking. I only know about it because my hiking group accidentally went down that road in 2017 when we summited Wheeler, haha
Nice video! I've heard many warnings about the road leading up to the trailhead (last mile), but didn't look too bad at all. Were there more difficult sections not shown in the video? Do you think that it could be done in a Subaru Outback type vehicle?
Oh yep, anything remotely resembling ground clearance, and you shouldn't have any problem, I think. Of course my perspective is from a high-clearance vehicle, but it's definitely not a tough trail, just a regular gravel road with a couple rocky parts.
Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ive had to turn back on the trail before I reached my goal, it sucks but it happens. Trying to get a trip together to backpack the same general area where you were. Hope it goes well but nothing is ever guaranteed.
It happens for sure. Kind of a gut check moment for all of us, and sure we could have used a little less caution and done something different, but this was safe and worked out.
Have you been to the Red River area before?
@@ljmproductions1 I've been more around Angel Fire. Last backpacking I've done was closer too Mora NM. but none of these places are too far apart.
@@donaldbronikowski2859 Very true :)
After watching your video and being reminded of Jacque Cousteau, I started watching The Undersea World TV series. Anyway, Episode 7 (below) seems to show a lot of creative ways of dealing with story, audio, lighting and editing that may give you some inspiration... it's old school, for sure. Enjoy!
