I mean, they screw it up because a) that series was cursed with having writers who had the mentality of "who cares, only 5 year olds watch this" when writing the 20 ANNIVERSARY..... which is like bringing someone without a sense of taste to cook a dinner saying "eh. they will eat whatever" b) tzachor, executive producer at the time, was such a fan of the original gokaiger he wanted to preserve the footage he liked the most. no matter if it didn't make sense it in power rangers context
The whole thing with the "bone removing" monster is a joke that doesn't exactly translate well. In Japanese "having bone" is an idiom similar to "having backbone" in English.
There was a monster like that in Dino Charge, coincidentally as part of a sixth ranger arc. Removed metaphorical backbone and leaving victims stuck in fear.
GokaiSilver is a delight. His actor had dreamed of being in a Super Sentai since he was a kid, and Toei even let him nerd out a bit through Gokaiger; his favorite sentai as a kid was KibaRanger (the White Tiger ranger), so the first ranger key Gai used was the KibaRanger/White Tiger key! There's a photo of the cast following the wrap-up party for Gokaiger. All of the others are varying degrees of emotional (Marvelous, Don and Joe's actors are openly crying in fact). Gai's actor, however, looks positively *crushed* at seeing his tenure end. They still bring him back for crossovers, at least, and he's always a delight to see.
there's this point in some actor when you see that they stopped acting, and they are fanboying out. for example, you can see it in tennant's eyes whenever he's doing things while driving the tardis or capaldi's when he's giving the slithly assholish lectures on why the conflict at hand is just wrong. Ikeda you can see in half of the scenes he's in and litterally every single time he's the one in the suit instead of Sato doing suitwork (he's just too professional and focussed in his excitement, qhile ikeda is flat out exploding onto the scene)

Oh man if you thought the Gokaiger cast were crushed… you should have seen the cast of Kamen Rider Fourze! The last scene they ever shot was an emotional one where they read a goodbye letter, and all the actors were genuinely crying, the actress playing the lead girl even intentionally flubbing her lines so the shoot would end later then normal. This is because being an actor in Super Sentai or Kamen Rider or hell even Ultraman isn’t seen as a negative or the end of your career. In fact, to be cast in one of those shows is considered the highest honor you can receive as an actor, considering how important they are to Japanese pop culture
The announcement of the names during posing comes from, believe it or not, samurai culture. Samurais in the Japanese Middle ages did something similiar by announcing their names and their sword styles while getting into their default pose for duels, meaning they stood proud in the name of who their respective master was. In reality this was ment as a very early form of advertisement for all the different sword-fighting schools and teachers that were out there, so, thanks to cultural osmosis and stuff like theater-plays, novels etc. it has become a part of Japanese pop culture.
Sort of, the whole "announcing your presence" thing was a symbol of early samurai culture. The reason they stopped? The Mongol Invasion of Japan. When the Samurai rode out and began to announce their presence, the Mongols laughed at them and began firing arrows into the Japanese.
@@dylansharp8471 The joke is that Tommy has gotten a disproportionate amount of representation across Power Rangers, with Linkara even noting that the Ninja Steel crossover felt more like "The Tommy Oliver Show". Given that the Green MMPR is his most iconic look, he's applying the same joke here.
The whole Gokaigers knowing who BoukenRed is already is thanks to the crossover movie they did with Gosiger that canonically takes place between ep 16 and 17. In the movie they manage to get the Gosigers ultimate power as well as some other sentai's ultimate power (Boukenger being one of them). As how BoukenRed knows AkaRed is because they meet in their sentai equivalent to Once a Ranger.
Honestly wish Linkara would have seen that too. It is an amazing movie with just a spectacular super sentai all out melee, canon to the series, and just awesome all around.

He's enjoying the episodes that have been given to him via Patreon in the way they should be, and doesn't know vast Sentai history and doesn't look at all the supplementary material.
Also, because Linkara seems confused about this - a grand power is NOT the ability to turn into a Ranger. It is the ability to use a special gimmick, most of which are those megazord extras we see. That's why, even though they have all the keys, they only have grand powers from teams that they've interacted with.
Missed opportunity for a joke: 'The somewhat spectacular silver person!' When even the Sentai knows that Orion will have nothing going for him after his introduction episodes.
At least Gai being a super excitable fanboy is an explanation for why the RPM gold & silver rangers fused or why he had the armour with all the helmets on it. Meanwhile in Super Megaforce it's just.... unexplained why Orion is so hyper while suited up and completely different out of suit.

Well the reason they knew BoukenRed was because between the Basco debut episodes and GokaiSilver’s debut episode, their movie happened where they crossover with Goseiger and it was glorious with more cameos and all the megazords battling it out in the end. Surprised someone hasn’t requested it.
it's funny that the Sentai series had three different 6th rangers who were all evil before dying in a heroic redemption, and also all have dinosaur-themed mechs. Good on Gokaiger's writers for noticing this and making it the basis of Gai's powers.
I have to wonder if that's part of why they decided to count AbareKiller as a Sixth Ranger rather than an Extra Hero. He was a villain for most of his time in the season and only turned good for like two episodes near the end before dying. Speaking purely in terms of story, he's as much a Sixth Ranger as Jarrod and Camille's Sentai counterparts. But, if we count him as a Sixth Ranger, he completes the trifecta of dead Sixth Rangers with dinosaur mechs; one for each form that GokaiSilver's mech has. And as an added bonus, his actor was available to show up in human form and give Gai his Ranger powers.
@@StardustWhip that was one of the reasons but the main reason they give in episode 29 of Gokaiger, thé Abaranger tribute, was that the one off ranger AbarePink, who was Emiri and a teammate for the Abaranger, so they count her as the 5th member to join the team. Making AbareKiller the 6th since he didn’t join the team until the 3rd to last episode I believe.

I feel like Gai's backstory is something that Power Rangers really should've done at some point. Since there is a decades-long diegetic legacy to the Rangers, they should've had at least one ranger be a massive fanboy prior to joining. I guess there have been a few recent series where they were *aware* of the legacy of Power Rangers, Beast Morphers in particular, but they weren't hard-core fanboys, they were just aware of what the Rangers were. The closest I think they ever got to this was Sky in SPD, but even that is a stretch.
It's a missed opportunity that when Gai says they should fight ninja-style, the Ninja-Style Dancer didn't appear. It has been far too long since we saw his sick moves!

fun fact: Gokai Silver's introduction speech with the Red Sun and the Blue Soul and all that, is actually a reference to the lyrics of the first Sentai's opening theme. Also Kamen Rider tried something similar to what you suggested in regards to Gold Mode's design, look up Kamen Rider Grand Zi-O if you're interested in seeing how that idea would work.

The idioms seem to be a bit different. In English it refers to courage or determination ("Show some backbone" or "Grow a spine"), where the Japanese appears to be more drive and motivation.
Honestly the PR terminology is just more consistent and unique. Morphers, Morphine Sequence, Zords, etc. Sentai reinvents the wheel each time and so I just use the PR terminology to keep it all straight

Much as I love Gokaiger and it deserves it, it would be nice for a patron to have Linkara review other Sentai, and not just more Zyuranger. Would be cool if he was patroned to review something from Goranger-Jetman, or heck how about some of the modern Sentai that never got the PR treatment such as ToQger, Zyuohger, Kyuranger, LuVSPat or Kiramager.
Kinda disappointed linkara cut off when hyugga says "I've been waiting to hear you say that all day" meaning he never expected gai to give him the morpher, it was a lesson. This was a really cool moment when i watched gokaiger, now having watched gingaman, it harkens back to hyuugga as a teacher / older brother figure for the team.

Interesting thing about the picture book of Gingaman is that in that series they stayed with the author of that book and it was a thing that was made in the midst of it.
So, the reason Akashi said that line about AkaRed at the end is because AkaRed was originally introduced in Boukenger as part of the 30th anniversary movie, GoGo Sentai Boukenger vs. Super Sentai. It's basically the equivalent of Once A Ranger in Operation Overdrive.
One thing I always thought was neat about Basco was the opposing philosophies he and the Rangers had. "Take what we want, and give nothing back" vs "to gain something, I must give something away"
I remember watching Gokaiger as it came out. I was psyched when I heard it was gonna be adapted into English, so you can imagine my disappointment when I saw what Super Megaforce ended up being
One thing they never fully established for Gai but seemed to imply was that Gai died from the initial accident (though thankfully Truck-kun failed to Isekai him) and was revived to be Gokai Silver. The three Rangers who appeared to him are all dead, when he awakens in the hospital the nurse in the room is visibly terrified, and much later on in the series when the spirit of another dead Ranger appears to the group, Gai can't see him for some reason.
There's just something cathartic when Gokaiger gets through on Patreon. Also, I wouldn't worry at all about using Power Ranger terminology for Sentai things. 'Zord' and 'Morpher' are really well known parts and do help to describe particular things (not all giant robots are Zords after all.) Man though. Who looked at Gai and said 'so for Power Rangers, let's take a fun personified character and turn him into a brooding war survivor! I'm sure that won't clash with the footage at all!'

So interestingly much like in Lost Galaxy, Hyuga is the older brother of Ryoma and it was a pretty close adaptation of that plotline from Gingaman with Hyuga fallen into a chasm in the first episode, his body being used by Bull Black, and returning later. Even Ryoma offering to give his power as Gingared back to his brother when he returned. So I think the whole thing with Hyuga and Gai was a nod to that.
Yep Gingaman was all about finding ability to believe in yourself as the gingaman were chosen to be these heroes and since their forest turn to stone, they basically weren’t sure if they are the right people to carry on that legacy, but of course overtime they found the courage and strength to live on that legend.
Lost Galaxy and Gingaman are like 75% the same story. But the changes are pretty interesting. Like Gingaman being a nature themed season while PRLG is a space epic. And the villains are changed.

I always will lament the HUGE potential Megaforce had. I understand they were limited by the fact they HAD to adapt Goseiger but they had three years to plan it out.
15:30 - Yeah... You're echoing most of the fandom on this. It's one of the weirdest things to come out of Super Sentai in recent years, and that includes Kyouryuger's dance sequences that they do when they transform.
I love how the new mech is a perfect tribute to the 3 heroes that gave him his morpher. It comes from the future like the Time ranger, it's dino form is clearly based on the Dragon Caesar, and the transformed form is based on the Megazord the Abarekiller had. There really was a lot of love and attention here, and considering all of those were adapted into Power rangers, it is amazing how they didn't use the same explanation in Megaforce
Just got back home from working at the TV station to watch Linkara the Suede Ranger review a Super Sentei show with more explosions than a 4th of July event.
Allow me to nerd out a bit about the Gingaman tribute episode of Gokaiger. In Gingaman, Hyuuga was Ryouma's older brother, who was supposed to be their generation's Ginga Red, but the space pirate attack left him supposedly KIA/MIA. Having taken over for his more qualified brother, Ryouma has been carrying a shade of impostor syndrome - and that came up for real after they got back Hyuga alive and well (but before Bull Black's powers have been inherited by Hyuuga). In that culminating episode, Ryouma figured he should rescind his role as Ginga Red to his brother out of admiration… but throughout the episode got over his impostor syndrome and found his own resolve to stay as Ginga Red. Hyuuga of course gives him his blessings and said that he'd have rejected even if Ryouma offered the role. What makes me particularly appreciate the Gingaman tribute episode is that it's a thematic reflection of the same dilemma - albeit with Hyuuga in a more proactive instigator role, like "Hey, if you're not sure you deserve that role, I'll gladly take it from you", leading to Gai finding his resolve in a similar manner. While the tribute episode wasn't written by the original writer of Gingaman (Yasuko Kobayashi - Glory to Her name), I appreciate the writer for this attempt at a more subtle way of character tribute (AND tying it into a main character's development), rather than a rush of in-your-face visual fanservice or toy ads like some other episodes.
“If only there was a toy version (megazord) I could buy at a store” either this was good foreshadowing or he’s unaware of what happens later in the series with megazords and toys
I would write it as the Sentai suit is an incomplete form which they can just use Gokaiger footage/suit and then have a modded suit used for new footage which includes the faces of the Phantom Ranger, Magna Defender, Titanium Ranger, Rhino Ranger (or the Spirit Rangers).
@@WimpyKelv12 I would adapt it With h a Joke about How Odion forgot some forms and or had wrong information about the Rangers (like thinking Omega is the Sixth Ranger of the SPD B Squadron when that si Shadow Ranger). And have the team ask him why he chose those forms and forgot others. And Orion reacting With a "I knew I forgot something" MAYBE if there was enough budget make a new versión With ALL the other missing Ranger forms (as CGI or adding the other Sixth in boots or brazalets or in the back)
one of the most "of all the places to waste budget" treads going on back then on SMF is exactly that; instead of doing a full GC of an entire suit in combat mode (mmpr red over the sun vulcan red), they could have done a far less invasive "titanium helmet over roboknight" and cut the other episode fight altogether

The whole ranger shouting name thing is a thing lifted from kabuki theatre which is very loud and expressive with wacky poses and loud phrases which is also why anime characters shout their attack names it's just apart of Japanese drama culture
Wait a minute! That episode where the Gokaigers were fighting the monster with the shield necklace we’re using 6th ranger powers. But in the Power Rangers version, they fought him using Lost Galaxy! Did- did they reshoot the whole fight scene with Lost Galaxy?! Why?!!!? There was no Sendai exclusive 6th rangers, so it makes no sense!!!
21:38-21:50: Now to be fair, since I mostly just know about Power Rangers and the Sentai's that relate to that, if you're a long-running series you're going to go back to some ideas again, and even counting the future Ninja Steal that's only three teams that were Ninjas out of 22 Power Rangers teams, so that's not really a lot. Heck, some concepts I'd love to see again because it's been so long. We haven't had a space opera season since Lost Galaxy 23 years ago, and Lost Galaxy and In Space are my two favorite series so I'd love another space opera season of Power Rangers. Or maybe another season set in the future since the last one like that SPD was 17 years ago.
I agree, when you look at it it's a win/win tbh, the more ninja teams you have you can do a mini cross over event, although we never got it with ninja steel it would've been cool to have an all ninja rangers crossover with alien ranger, ninja storm and ninja steal similar with the all Dino team up with got in beast morphers, I say as long as you keep them spread out every 5 to 10 years a new ninja team can be cool, for me I hope they do one inspired by naruto have them be ninja but with Japanese mystical beast like kurama the 9 tail fox, shukaku the sand spirit and so on
@@ArcCaravan something like that, ninja but with mythical creatures not the same old lion, hawk, bear regular animal thing I'd do something like this Red ninja - dragon - element: Fire Blue ninja - unicorn - element: Water Yellow ninja - griffin - element: Lighting Black ninja - shukaku - element: earth White ninja - Pegasus - element: Air Orange ninja/ sixth ranger - 9 tail fox - element: shadows ( give him the shadow clone technique like naruto ) But the overall idea is to let them do moves like in Naruto like transform, substitution and let them learn to mold chakra so they walk on water and trees, the idea is thar this series would be a tribute to naruto and the mentor can be named jiraiya who's a ranger also the toad sage silver ranger jiraiya who can use all the elements And as for the villans take the concepts used by the creator of naruto, if you know the akatsuki were originally supposed to be monsters so do that here Orochimaru - snake monster Kisame - shark monster Sasori - puppet monster As examples You could also have a purple ranger who fights alone and is looking to defeat the monster thst killed his older brother and his clan ( a play on saskue, and his zord can literally be the susano that transforms into a megazord or as armor to orange ranger fox zord like the susano kurama armor ) And the main goal for the series is a race between the Heros and villans to collect the 9 artifacts ( like collecting the 9 biju ) if the monsters get all 9 they can summons the ultimate monster to conquer earth but if the rangers get all 9 they can summon the ultimate power to destroy the monsters Sorry this is so long but that's an idea I'd do for the next sentai power rangers series I'd call it Power Rangers: Shinobi Strikers

It was quick enough that most probably wouldn't notice the dragon dagger falling, but yeah - I'd guess they replaced with Lost Galaxy because they hadn't introduced sixth ranger keys yet (especially since they didn't adapt Basco) and thus had to have something else.

21:39 around the time of the recent Sentai teams of the twenty tens like lupinranger vs patranger for example, the ratings of Sentai and the toy sales had been in decline, in fact Ryusoulger which was originally supposed to be a dragon themed Sentai but to combat the failings of Sentai, Toei changed the seasons theme to Dinosaurs instead so they probably recycle themes to appeal to kids in Japan. Like how Zyuranger was popular for the dinosaur theme yet yet after Dairanger and Kakuranger the made Ohranger an Egyptian themed Sentai that almost ended the franchise.
I'm convinced that the patreons that request these Gokaiger episodes are showing how better it was to newbies to Sentai and power rangers unlike how the lazy American version adaptation Megaforce was. I won't be surprised if the entire Gokaiger series eventually gets all reviewed. (In bits and different times that is)
So, at the introduction of Gai and his explanation as to how he got his powers, it was a theory for a long time that Gai was either in a coma or already dead from the truck. This is because the three Super Sentai that gives him his powers are all previously dead. DragonRanger is dead. TimeFire is dead. AbareKiller is dead. It is unfortunate that this never actually made it into the show as a story arc. I like the fanboy of Gai, but he doesn't get any actual development. And I think he needed a story like this to expand his character. Also, about GOLD MODE, I honestly think that instead of the helmets of the Sentai, it should've just had each Sentai's respective symbols to represent them. It would've looked less gaudy.
For your roll call question, only team whose roll call can be summed up as "The same in, (insert color here)" after Red is done with his standard one is in Shinkenger. Also, some teams don't use colors with their roll call. One of the few times a Super Sentai Series hasn't done a roll call is Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. We are knees deep 19 episodes in, we still don't have a roll call, and the team is still unaware that they already met Inu Brother (the black, dog-like member) and they already introduced the sixth ranger! Donbrothers is a such a damn good show.
yea donbrothers is doing things their own way. heck they added the 6th ranger to the team properly (kinda) before black, but i kinda like the disconnected nature of the team, plus stragne things like their zords just being power-ups for them to use in normal size fights (yea dononitaijin can be used at a normal human hight battle but i like the robotaro forms better)
Fun fact about the sixth ranger concept - for a while after this season came out, Gai WAS how you told the difference between a sixth ranger and an extra Ranger. Because his morph sequence uses the roman numerals for sixteen, people interpreted that as only the fifteen keys he had form Basco to begin with, plus himself, were Sixth Rangers. Everyone else was an Extra Ranger. Weirdly, when season 45, Zenkaiger, came out, they jumbled them all up again, giving the sixth ranger in that season access to powers (in that one it was just certain attacks, not the entire ranger form) of what before then were considered core members, like Jungle Fury's Rhino Ranger, AKA GekiChopper
One small correction for you (because I love your series and just want to spread correct information) Shurikenger is the 6th ranger of the Hurricanger sentai team and had its own unique morph cry for Gai. There was another unique cry in the same team for the Goraigers, the Thunder Rangers, but we don't hear that one for a long while.
Basco’s keys aren’t Sixth Rangers, they’re Extra Rangers and Bangai Heroes. That’s why he has the Black Knight, who is not rly a 6tg ranger of Gingaman

I actually knew who that one guy was before the reveal in the Gingaman homage episode because I got a VHS of like 2 episodes when I was a kid. (well my bro and I did) Our father was in the military and was stationed in Japan and he brought us the megazord and a vhs of Gingaman when we were kids. I've watched it loads of times but didn't understand really anything but it was still fun to watch. :)
fun fact about Gai when he first morphs, the words he's saying about his blue soul and the red burning sun, he's actually quoting the original Gorenger opening lyrics, just kinda relevant considering he's a fan boy

a) that series was cursed with having writers who had the mentality of "who cares, only 5 year olds watch this" when writing the 20 ANNIVERSARY..... which is like bringing someone without a sense of taste to cook a dinner saying "eh. they will eat whatever"
b) tzachor, executive producer at the time, was such a fan of the original gokaiger he wanted to preserve the footage he liked the most. no matter if it didn't make sense it in power rangers context
The whole thing with the "bone removing" monster is a joke that doesn't exactly translate well. In Japanese "having bone" is an idiom similar to "having backbone" in English.
So he can metaphorically remove bones.
And it looks like they become bone-idel without their skeleton.
I recall one in Kyoryuger like that too.
He Sub Zero's them but in a more kid friendly fashion.
There was a monster like that in Dino Charge, coincidentally as part of a sixth ranger arc. Removed metaphorical backbone and leaving victims stuck in fear.

GokaiSilver is a delight. His actor had dreamed of being in a Super Sentai since he was a kid, and Toei even let him nerd out a bit through Gokaiger; his favorite sentai as a kid was KibaRanger (the White Tiger ranger), so the first ranger key Gai used was the KibaRanger/White Tiger key!
There's a photo of the cast following the wrap-up party for Gokaiger. All of the others are varying degrees of emotional (Marvelous, Don and Joe's actors are openly crying in fact). Gai's actor, however, looks positively *crushed* at seeing his tenure end. They still bring him back for crossovers, at least, and he's always a delight to see.
there's this point in some actor when you see that they stopped acting, and they are fanboying out. for example, you can see it in tennant's eyes whenever he's doing things while driving the tardis or capaldi's when he's giving the slithly assholish lectures on why the conflict at hand is just wrong.
Ikeda you can see in half of the scenes he's in and litterally every single time he's the one in the suit instead of Sato doing suitwork (he's just too professional and focussed in his excitement, qhile ikeda is flat out exploding onto the scene)

Oh man if you thought the Gokaiger cast were crushed… you should have seen the cast of Kamen Rider Fourze!
The last scene they ever shot was an emotional one where they read a goodbye letter, and all the actors were genuinely crying, the actress playing the lead girl even intentionally flubbing her lines so the shoot would end later then normal.
This is because being an actor in Super Sentai or Kamen Rider or hell even Ultraman isn’t seen as a negative or the end of your career. In fact, to be cast in one of those shows is considered the highest honor you can receive as an actor, considering how important they are to Japanese pop culture

The announcement of the names during posing comes from, believe it or not, samurai culture. Samurais in the Japanese Middle ages did something similiar by announcing their names and their sword styles while getting into their default pose for duels, meaning they stood proud in the name of who their respective master was. In reality this was ment as a very early form of advertisement for all the different sword-fighting schools and teachers that were out there, so, thanks to cultural osmosis and stuff like theater-plays, novels etc. it has become a part of Japanese pop culture.

Sort of, the whole "announcing your presence" thing was a symbol of early samurai culture. The reason they stopped? The Mongol Invasion of Japan. When the Samurai rode out and began to announce their presence, the Mongols laughed at them and began firing arrows into the Japanese.

The whole Gokaigers knowing who BoukenRed is already is thanks to the crossover movie they did with Gosiger that canonically takes place between ep 16 and 17. In the movie they manage to get the Gosigers ultimate power as well as some other sentai's ultimate power (Boukenger being one of them). As how BoukenRed knows AkaRed is because they meet in their sentai equivalent to Once a Ranger.
Honestly wish Linkara would have seen that too. It is an amazing movie with just a spectacular super sentai all out melee, canon to the series, and just awesome all around.

He's enjoying the episodes that have been given to him via Patreon in the way they should be, and doesn't know vast Sentai history and doesn't look at all the supplementary material.
Also, because Linkara seems confused about this - a grand power is NOT the ability to turn into a Ranger. It is the ability to use a special gimmick, most of which are those megazord extras we see. That's why, even though they have all the keys, they only have grand powers from teams that they've interacted with.

9:09 I kinda wanna give it to AbareKiller, honestly. Dude's morpher was gonna go nuclear, and he was already dying from wounds sustained previously, so he had his Zord fly him out to where the explosion was far away from anyone else. Said Zord opted to stay with him in the end out of comradery.
Best part is the Dekaranger cross over where the villains wanted their strongest ally to be revived and Makoto and Topgaler come flying out instead

Well the reason they knew BoukenRed was because between the Basco debut episodes and GokaiSilver’s debut episode, their movie happened where they crossover with Goseiger and it was glorious with more cameos and all the megazords battling it out in the end. Surprised someone hasn’t requested it.

The best part is that, by investing their powers into Gai, he broke the 6th Ranger Curse. Which we saw pay off in Kyoryuger.
I have to wonder if that's part of why they decided to count AbareKiller as a Sixth Ranger rather than an Extra Hero. He was a villain for most of his time in the season and only turned good for like two episodes near the end before dying. Speaking purely in terms of story, he's as much a Sixth Ranger as Jarrod and Camille's Sentai counterparts.
But, if we count him as a Sixth Ranger, he completes the trifecta of dead Sixth Rangers with dinosaur mechs; one for each form that GokaiSilver's mech has. And as an added bonus, his actor was available to show up in human form and give Gai his Ranger powers.

I feel like Gai's backstory is something that Power Rangers really should've done at some point. Since there is a decades-long diegetic legacy to the Rangers, they should've had at least one ranger be a massive fanboy prior to joining. I guess there have been a few recent series where they were *aware* of the legacy of Power Rangers, Beast Morphers in particular, but they weren't hard-core fanboys, they were just aware of what the Rangers were. The closest I think they ever got to this was Sky in SPD, but even that is a stretch.

Dino Charge had a similar backbone monster that made people afraid of everything. Coincidentally it was also during their sixth ranger's arc.
The idioms seem to be a bit different. In English it refers to courage or determination ("Show some backbone" or "Grow a spine"), where the Japanese appears to be more drive and motivation.
Re: Zord/Megazord terminology - BAH! Don't worry about it. I'm sure a lot of us do the same and be bigger Sentai fans
Honestly the PR terminology is just more consistent and unique. Morphers, Morphine Sequence, Zords, etc. Sentai reinvents the wheel each time and so I just use the PR terminology to keep it all straight
@@BlueJaguarRanger tbh for me i consider super sentai and power rangers connected but in different universes like DC with Earth 1 and Earth 2 ( I guess sentai would be Earth 1 ) two universes similar but also different, my main reason for this is spd sentai and power rangers and the shadow ranger commander krugger both look similar although sentai krugger is more Japanese style while American krugger is more Americanized like the two green lanterns Allen Scott and Hal Jordan similar but different

Wait, that 6th rangers back story is literally what happens to the main character of YuYu Hakusho.
Kinda disappointed linkara cut off when hyugga says "I've been waiting to hear you say that all day" meaning he never expected gai to give him the morpher, it was a lesson. This was a really cool moment when i watched gokaiger, now having watched gingaman, it harkens back to hyuugga as a teacher / older brother figure for the team.
Speaking of, Question: was he Red's older brother in that like in Lost Galaxy? As someone who hasn't seen the series but is looking at their relationship in this episode, I'd have believed that

Interesting thing about the picture book of Gingaman is that in that series they stayed with the author of that book and it was a thing that was made in the midst of it.
So, the reason Akashi said that line about AkaRed at the end is because AkaRed was originally introduced in Boukenger as part of the 30th anniversary movie, GoGo Sentai Boukenger vs. Super Sentai. It's basically the equivalent of Once A Ranger in Operation Overdrive.

One thing I always thought was neat about Basco was the opposing philosophies he and the Rangers had. "Take what we want, and give nothing back" vs "to gain something, I must give something away"
I remember watching Gokaiger as it came out. I was psyched when I heard it was gonna be adapted into English, so you can imagine my disappointment when I saw what Super Megaforce ended up being
One thing they never fully established for Gai but seemed to imply was that Gai died from the initial accident (though thankfully Truck-kun failed to Isekai him) and was revived to be Gokai Silver. The three Rangers who appeared to him are all dead, when he awakens in the hospital the nurse in the room is visibly terrified, and much later on in the series when the spirit of another dead Ranger appears to the group, Gai can't see him for some reason.

So interestingly much like in Lost Galaxy, Hyuga is the older brother of Ryoma and it was a pretty close adaptation of that plotline from Gingaman with Hyuga fallen into a chasm in the first episode, his body being used by Bull Black, and returning later. Even Ryoma offering to give his power as Gingared back to his brother when he returned. So I think the whole thing with Hyuga and Gai was a nod to that.
Yep Gingaman was all about finding ability to believe in yourself as the gingaman were chosen to be these heroes and since their forest turn to stone, they basically weren’t sure if they are the right people to carry on that legacy, but of course overtime they found the courage and strength to live on that legend.
Lost Galaxy and Gingaman are like 75% the same story. But the changes are pretty interesting. Like Gingaman being a nature themed season while PRLG is a space epic. And the villains are changed.

15:30 - Yeah... You're echoing most of the fandom on this. It's one of the weirdest things to come out of Super Sentai in recent years, and that includes Kyouryuger's dance sequences that they do when they transform.
As for Akashi referencing Akared, he had actually met Akared in the movie Boukenger vs Super Sentai during their run.
I love how the new mech is a perfect tribute to the 3 heroes that gave him his morpher. It comes from the future like the Time ranger, it's dino form is clearly based on the Dragon Caesar, and the transformed form is based on the Megazord the Abarekiller had. There really was a lot of love and attention here, and considering all of those were adapted into Power rangers, it is amazing how they didn't use the same explanation in Megaforce
Just got back home from working at the TV station to watch Linkara the Suede Ranger review a Super Sentei show with more explosions than a 4th of July event.

Allow me to nerd out a bit about the Gingaman tribute episode of Gokaiger.
In Gingaman, Hyuuga was Ryouma's older brother, who was supposed to be their generation's Ginga Red, but the space pirate attack left him supposedly KIA/MIA. Having taken over for his more qualified brother, Ryouma has been carrying a shade of impostor syndrome - and that came up for real after they got back Hyuga alive and well (but before Bull Black's powers have been inherited by Hyuuga). In that culminating episode, Ryouma figured he should rescind his role as Ginga Red to his brother out of admiration… but throughout the episode got over his impostor syndrome and found his own resolve to stay as Ginga Red. Hyuuga of course gives him his blessings and said that he'd have rejected even if Ryouma offered the role.
What makes me particularly appreciate the Gingaman tribute episode is that it's a thematic reflection of the same dilemma - albeit with Hyuuga in a more proactive instigator role, like "Hey, if you're not sure you deserve that role, I'll gladly take it from you", leading to Gai finding his resolve in a similar manner.
While the tribute episode wasn't written by the original writer of Gingaman (Yasuko Kobayashi - Glory to Her name), I appreciate the writer for this attempt at a more subtle way of character tribute (AND tying it into a main character's development), rather than a rush of in-your-face visual fanservice or toy ads like some other episodes.
“If only there was a toy version (megazord) I could buy at a store” either this was good foreshadowing or he’s unaware of what happens later in the series with megazords and toys

I would write it as the Sentai suit is an incomplete form which they can just use Gokaiger footage/suit and then have a modded suit used for new footage which includes the faces of the Phantom Ranger, Magna Defender, Titanium Ranger, Rhino Ranger (or the Spirit Rangers).

MAYBE if there was enough budget make a new versión With ALL the other missing Ranger forms (as CGI or adding the other Sixth in boots or brazalets or in the back)
one of the most "of all the places to waste budget" treads going on back then on SMF is exactly that; instead of doing a full GC of an entire suit in combat mode (mmpr red over the sun vulcan red), they could have done a far less invasive "titanium helmet over roboknight" and cut the other episode fight altogether
A lot of western sentai fans also use the Power Ranger terms here and there for giant robots and such, you’re good.

Wait a minute! That episode where the Gokaigers were fighting the monster with the shield necklace we’re using 6th ranger powers. But in the Power Rangers version, they fought him using Lost Galaxy! Did- did they reshoot the whole fight scene with Lost Galaxy?! Why?!!!? There was no Sendai exclusive 6th rangers, so it makes no sense!!!
21:38-21:50: Now to be fair, since I mostly just know about Power Rangers and the Sentai's that relate to that, if you're a long-running series you're going to go back to some ideas again, and even counting the future Ninja Steal that's only three teams that were Ninjas out of 22 Power Rangers teams, so that's not really a lot. Heck, some concepts I'd love to see again because it's been so long. We haven't had a space opera season since Lost Galaxy 23 years ago, and Lost Galaxy and In Space are my two favorite series so I'd love another space opera season of Power Rangers. Or maybe another season set in the future since the last one like that SPD was 17 years ago.
Next season is called Cosmic Fury so it is 90% likely you will get your wish lol.

I agree, when you look at it it's a win/win tbh, the more ninja teams you have you can do a mini cross over event, although we never got it with ninja steel it would've been cool to have an all ninja rangers crossover with alien ranger, ninja storm and ninja steal similar with the all Dino team up with got in beast morphers, I say as long as you keep them spread out every 5 to 10 years a new ninja team can be cool, for me I hope they do one inspired by naruto have them be ninja but with Japanese mystical beast like kurama the 9 tail fox, shukaku the sand spirit and so on

Orange ninja/ sixth ranger - 9 tail fox - element: shadows ( give him the shadow clone technique like naruto )
But the overall idea is to let them do moves like in Naruto like transform, substitution and let them learn to mold chakra so they walk on water and trees, the idea is thar this series would be a tribute to naruto and the mentor can be named jiraiya who's a ranger also the toad sage silver ranger jiraiya who can use all the elements
And as for the villans take the concepts used by the creator of naruto, if you know the akatsuki were originally supposed to be monsters so do that here
Orochimaru - snake monster
Kisame - shark monster
Sasori - puppet monster
As examples
You could also have a purple ranger who fights alone and is looking to defeat the monster thst killed his older brother and his clan
( a play on saskue, and his zord can literally be the susano that transforms into a megazord or as armor to orange ranger fox zord like the susano kurama armor )
And the main goal for the series is a race between the Heros and villans to collect the 9 artifacts ( like collecting the 9 biju ) if the monsters get all 9 they can summons the ultimate monster to conquer earth but if the rangers get all 9 they can summon the ultimate power to destroy the monsters
Sorry this is so long but that's an idea I'd do for the next sentai power rangers series I'd call it

Fun fact, there is reason why Akashi knows who Aka Red was. Because he both met and battled along side him during the events of Boukenger Versus Super Sentai crossover movie, aka their version of Once A Ranger.
Oh hey I recognize the DragonRanger attacks the collar footage!…because Power Rangers couldn’t replace it by filming an identical shot with the Quasar Saber because they filmed an original Lost Galaxy Super Mega Mode sequence
It was quick enough that most probably wouldn't notice the dragon dagger falling, but yeah - I'd guess they replaced with Lost Galaxy because they hadn't introduced sixth ranger keys yet (especially since they didn't adapt Basco) and thus had to have something else.

21:39 around the time of the recent Sentai teams of the twenty tens like lupinranger vs patranger for example, the ratings of Sentai and the toy sales had been in decline, in fact Ryusoulger which was originally supposed to be a dragon themed Sentai but to combat the failings of Sentai, Toei changed the seasons theme to Dinosaurs instead so they probably recycle themes to appeal to kids in Japan. Like how Zyuranger was popular for the dinosaur theme yet yet after Dairanger and Kakuranger the made Ohranger an Egyptian themed Sentai that almost ended the franchise.

I'm convinced that the patreons that request these Gokaiger episodes are showing how better it was to newbies to Sentai and power rangers unlike how the lazy American version adaptation Megaforce was. I won't be surprised if the entire Gokaiger series eventually gets all reviewed. (In bits and different times that is)
So, at the introduction of Gai and his explanation as to how he got his powers, it was a theory for a long time that Gai was either in a coma or already dead from the truck. This is because the three Super Sentai that gives him his powers are all previously dead.
DragonRanger is dead.
TimeFire is dead.
AbareKiller is dead.
It is unfortunate that this never actually made it into the show as a story arc. I like the fanboy of Gai, but he doesn't get any actual development. And I think he needed a story like this to expand his character.
Also, about GOLD MODE, I honestly think that instead of the helmets of the Sentai, it should've just had each Sentai's respective symbols to represent them. It would've looked less gaudy.
For your roll call question, only team whose roll call can be summed up as "The same in, (insert color here)" after Red is done with his standard one is in Shinkenger. Also, some teams don't use colors with their roll call. One of the few times a Super Sentai Series hasn't done a roll call is Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. We are knees deep 19 episodes in, we still don't have a roll call, and the team is still unaware that they already met Inu Brother (the black, dog-like member) and they already introduced the sixth ranger! Donbrothers is a such a damn good show.
yea donbrothers is doing things their own way. heck they added the 6th ranger to the team properly (kinda) before black, but i kinda like the disconnected nature of the team, plus stragne things like their zords just being power-ups for them to use in normal size fights (yea dononitaijin can be used at a normal human hight battle but i like the robotaro forms better)
Fun fact about the sixth ranger concept - for a while after this season came out, Gai WAS how you told the difference between a sixth ranger and an extra Ranger. Because his morph sequence uses the roman numerals for sixteen, people interpreted that as only the fifteen keys he had form Basco to begin with, plus himself, were Sixth Rangers. Everyone else was an Extra Ranger.
Weirdly, when season 45, Zenkaiger, came out, they jumbled them all up again, giving the sixth ranger in that season access to powers (in that one it was just certain attacks, not the entire ranger form) of what before then were considered core members, like Jungle Fury's Rhino Ranger, AKA GekiChopper

One small correction for you (because I love your series and just want to spread correct information) Shurikenger is the 6th ranger of the Hurricanger sentai team and had its own unique morph cry for Gai. There was another unique cry in the same team for the Goraigers, the Thunder Rangers, but we don't hear that one for a long while.
The best thing about the current version of the theme song is the “atop the fourth waaaaaaaaaaaall” part. It feels like it was always there

I actually knew who that one guy was before the reveal in the Gingaman homage episode because I got a VHS of like 2 episodes when I was a kid. (well my bro and I did) Our father was in the military and was stationed in Japan and he brought us the megazord and a vhs of Gingaman when we were kids. I've watched it loads of times but didn't understand really anything but it was still fun to watch. :)
fun fact about Gai when he first morphs, the words he's saying about his blue soul and the red burning sun, he's actually quoting the original Gorenger opening lyrics, just kinda relevant considering he's a fan boy
