  • Dr. Nevel, a Jupiter, Florida chiropractor, examines and provides a full body chiropractic adjustment to a patient with a pinched nerve in her neck after a whiplash injury from a go-cart accident. Whiplash has numerous causes including car crashes, sports injuries, slip and falls, or any trauma that causes a sudden movement to the head and neck. Whiplash often creates damage to the muscles, tendons, ligaments, and discs of the neck and upper back.
    Initial chiropractic treatment usually consists of reducing pain, inflammation, and muscle spasm. As the pain improves, rehabilitation of the soft tissue is necessary using physical therapy, range of motion exercises, and chiropractic adjustments.
    In addition to orthopedic and neurological testing, Dr. Nevel demonstrates a variety of chiropractic techniques including:
    *Specific Diversified manual cervical adjustments
    *Specific Diversified manual prone and supine thoracic adjustments
    *Specific Diversified manual lumbar side-posture adjustments
    *Extremity adjustments

Getting worse and worse. All my chiro does is two quick neck cracks, stretches my arm for a few mins and sends me on my way. Take pain meds on the daily now just to deal with it and I can barely get any sleep due to the pain (laying down is the worst agony).

    My Chiropractor does half of these adjustments. My visits last just about 30 mins which I think it’s very little to achieve some decent results. What do you think?

    • @DrBrandonNevel
      @DrBrandonNevel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The amount of time needed to achieve "decent results" can vary from person to person. The actual chiropractic adjustment usually does not take long to perform. Some doctors also perform soft tissue treatments and physical therapy procedures which can take longer but the length of treatment does not necessarily correlate to faster results.

    So, I have had distal bicep pain and ulnar nerve pain. My surgeon thought my distal bicep pain was coming from the c5 and c6. I had a cervical spine mri. She also was talking about having a nerve conduction study and e m g for the ulnar nerve. So, the c5 and c6 are bulging, arthritis. Everything above c5 is fine and c7-t1 is fine. I’m definitely not a doctor. I do have a question. From what I have read and watched, the c8 affects the ulnar nerve. If mine is fine, then I’m assuming it’s not my neck affecting the ulnar nerve?

    • @DrBrandonNevel
      @DrBrandonNevel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Erin, thanks for watching and the question. The C6 nerve typically innervates the skin near the distal bicep and goes to the thumb area so a C5/6 disc bulge could create your distal bicep sensation. However, the ulnar nerve area is typically C8 nerve which is the C7/T1 disc. Since your C7/T1 disc is fine, I would look for a peripheral nerve entrapment and see if the ulnar nerve symptoms are coming from somewhere else. Have you tried ulnar nerve flossing yet? How about myofascial release techniques such as the Graston Technique or Active Release Technique? I have a video demonstrating ulnar nerve flossing at th-cam.com/video/Xlom_o0Qt9g/w-d-xo.html If you don't have improvement with conservative treatment, your EMG/NCV testing might help determine where the nerve is being affected.

    Nice treatment. What causes these subluxations ?

    • @DrBrandonNevel
      @DrBrandonNevel  3 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      There are various causes of joint misalignment/fixations (chiropractic subluxation). It is traditionally thought that misalignment/fixations are caused by the "3 T's," Thoughts, Trauma, and Toxins. "Thoughts" which I describe as stress can manifest physically in tight muscles and stiff/fixated joints. "Trauma" can be a macro-trauma like a fall or car accident or micro-trauma like a repetitive stress injury or bad posture. "Toxins" can also cause joint fixation and inflammation such as a diet consisting of pro-inflammatory foods, refined sugars, etc.
      Each one of these can affect your body in different physical ways.

Yesterday, I had a massage and he thought it was a pinched nerve, too. I'm going to give it another couple of weeks (I visit the chiropractor once a week) and see what happens. I didn't expect immediate relief but thought at least I would be feeling slightly better.

    • @DrBrandonNevel
      @DrBrandonNevel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@karenmacrae9232 Hopefully you start seeing improvement. If my patients don’t see improvement, I usually order an MRI for further evaluation of the discs and nerves. Most insurance companies want 6 weeks of failed conservative care (chiropractic and/or physical therapy) before they approve an MRI. Another option for pinched nerves from disc bulges and herniations is spinal decompression.

  • @isaacguerrero6169
    @isaacguerrero6169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    So if mri shows no disc bulge but getting a bit of wierd feeling in right arm from pinched nerve sleeping wrong is just an adjustment issue to fix those sensations if so have you had patients with complete relief

    • @DrBrandonNevel
      @DrBrandonNevel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      There are a variety of conditions that can create those symptoms. You may have a “peripheral nerve entrapment” which means the nerve is being pinched further down (not from the spine or disc). Conditions such as thoracic outlet syndrome can also pinch the nerve. Consider seeing a chiropractor or physical therapist trained in extremities. If you find not relief, an EMG/NCV test can help diagnose if there is a problem with the nerve and where it’s getting “pinched.”

      Thanks for watching and the question. I adjusted her right SI joint and L5 on the left. I usually evaluate most patients from head to toe and determine what’s fixated and then mobilize those joints. Sometimes that looks like a “flying 7” for the spine depending on what I find during the exam and the patient’s complaints. If you add the extremities, might be closer to a “flying 29!” 😂

    Why do some chiropractors adjust the upper back face down (two hands) and some prefer to hold you or put there hands under you as they push themselves onto your body.
    I had a bad experience at my last chiro left me with nausea and vetigo for 5+ weeks. I laid front up, he put his hands under my back and push down with his body with his hands under my back.
    It seems most chiropractors by comparrison in the US adjust the upper back with you face down and two hands on.

      A good chiropractor will do a thorough exam and determine if a chiropractic adjustment and therapy is necessary. I have had many first time patients that are “hesitant” but after treatment they always say, “why did I wait in pain so long?” Hopefully you get an accurate diagnosis and get the treatments you need. 🙏🏻

    • @DrBrandonNevel

      There are various things that can cause this type of pain and symptoms. I recommend you see a doctor to get an accurate diagnosis. Sometimes a misaligned rib can cause similar symptoms that you are experiencing. If so, a good chiropractor or physio can help. Good luck!

      You need to be evaluated to determine what is causing the curvature and direction and degree of the curve. There are various treatments for scoliosis (sideways curvature of the spine) which may include home rehabilitation but you need to see a doctor (DC, PT, or MD) for an evaluation first.
