It's wrong what was done to the native Americans by the european colonisers who stole their land and relegated them to reservations. Informative documentary highlighting this continuing social injustice.
That's what they do. They still do it to this day through systematic rasism. They do it to blacks, Hispanics, and ALL other people who are not European. In fact they still do it to their own who are poor.
We need to start helping others with the injustices we see! If we all help a little we can and will make a difference. It's important we start here and learn but we must take some action.
Aron Toulouse My family lives in reserve in Canada they have no clean water or heat and it’s like 39 dollars for A pack of bottled water the Government needs to do better for them
@Steve Hunt why don't you go home? The ONLY people that have a genuine right to be here are Native Americans. So it's not for you to say who goes home and who doesn't.
Intergenerational trauma, my father had it . They stole our land in the name of God. He said natives wouldn't convert to their religion so they had no value to the white man, and they call US savages. I bought our land back last year. Miss you Daddy.
Not everyone forgets. Here in Europe I teach my students about Native Americans and what was taken from them. No, you are not forgotten. In my heart I really do feel that will rise again, it will take time but you will.
you should educate yourself on the black lives matter concept. Its not saying all lives dont matter. Its saying we must focus on the issue at hand. and BLM has spoken on native suffering as well. Asian people too. Basically anyone of color should support BLM.
No one said Native American lives don't matter! Stop with this stupid nonsense! I'm sick of you people trying to convolute what the black lives matter movement is about! Do not dismiss their pain. When they fight for equality, protest are getting killed no one stands up for them. This is the first time we have all come together to help in their fight. Do not do that, they have been through enough!
My native mother worked hard to raise her 10 children her first husband was an alcoholic. She managed to raise them all no alcoholic children.Sadley 5 of her grandsons are alcoholics. I pray the cycle will be broken.
That's the way the intruders still to this day destroy indigenous populations all over the world, they introduce alcohol to the culture. It's what they are probably thinking of doing when they reach the native groups in the Amazon.
IN JESUS NAME, IT IS DONE, I DRAW THE BLOODLINE OF JESUS CHRIST AROUND THEM RIGHT NOW! THANK YOU JESUS FOR YOUR PRECIOUS BLOOD THAT PROTECTS US FROM DAY TO DAY THAT YOU SHED FOR US ON THE CROSS! I, TOO, AM NATIVE WITH STRONG VALUES & BELIEFS & I ALSO WAS RAISED TO LOVE JESUS! HE CAME TO SET THE CAPTIVES FREE & HE IS DOING IT RIGHT NOW WITH YOUR MOTHER'S GRANDSONS! WATCH YAHWEH WORK!
My people have endured so much, and my family escaped Pine Ridge and were lucky enough to get their education, and make something of themselves. This all breaks my heart, and my people are so strong, and beautiful no one will take away our pride.
It’s unbelievable that your people where left and forgotten about we should help our natives get the hell out of there and make a better life like everyone else who gets the chance to
Lisa Ling you did a fantastic job with this documentary. The racism has got to end. Native Americans have been here for thousands of years and the colonist took their heritage and land.
Why do we treat our Native Americans this way? The racism in The United States needs to stop!!!! I work on a Paiute reservation and it’s the same there too!
#Biden 2020 Unfortunately racism is something a lot of people deal or have dealt with. I do think having social media helps shine the light on the roaches that hide lol
Albe: Don't use "we all". There's a lot of people who don't and are out there championing people's rights. The media (in all forms) doesn't report on that. The media fans the flames for viewership, not fact and certainly not in the interests of those who could use help.
@@jenniferwilcox9759 yeah but you and I know its the majority. We atleast know the hardships of Native that where caused by colonizers in school and the discussion about their problems ends there.
Because we’re all too busy as the worker bees in the hive of the money making economic machine... the system is very clever with how to keep everyone controlled... take away access to food, water, shelter... and man will do anything you say....
We’re not lost lmfao they still are full blooded natives here in Canada 🇨🇦 whoever told you that were lost white washed you lol that’s not true. I’m from muskowekan First Nation rez and George Gordon’s rez. Idk what you mean by lost Idk I don’t think we’re lost we just hang out and stick with our own kind more here in Canada 🇨🇦
I thought my reservation was desolate but after seeing this I’m grateful for the little my tribe/reservation have. My mom and brother live on the reservation they love that life. I have always liked big cities but once I get up in age I’ll go back and live on my land to be with my people.
The USA government doesn’t need the fake Indians anymore! That’s why they treat them like this! They used the fake Indians to take the the true Indians identity, the Indians are not white
I think that’s beautiful to go back home. Our heritage as people of color... scares these colonizers to death. Continuing your heritage (and demanding freedom) are the most powerful things we can do for the future. ✊🏾
Aron Toulouse he sure the hell does SND he is proud of me! These ppl are white trying to claim another culture and heritage but you never see them talk about their white parents and grandparents!!! Oh the irony! Even white ppl don’t want to be white ppl
If it was not for these people, new settlers would not have made it. Such a beautiful, respectful and powerful people. If I am a proud Canadian it is because of these people.
Am ugandan and this breaks my heart how can America donate money to our corrupt leaders instead of helping its own first 😳😳u can’t help yo neighbor without helping yo own first
@@foodlover7756 the aboriginals in Australia also sufferd and continue to suffer. It's the men in power and their racist agenda. And the silence of the majority
Indigenous Rights Matter too. We have to fight for them as hard as we do for our Black Brothers and Sisters. We have to listen to their stories and voices to know how to help. I see intelligent, beautiful people who are treated with prejudice, and worse, ignored by society. It has to stop!! We can't just say this is wrong its so sad... we can't just be kind and egalitarian friends... this needs action.
First of all, there's no need to play up of one over the other. Native lives matter would have been good enough and gotten your point across 🤷🏾♀️. I am of Native and Black ancestry, so comments like this are slick dismissive and unnecessary, regardless of your intention. Both groups have been pulverized by European colonization and they both have to fight their way upstream for generations to fight against unequal opportunities, due to the devastation that is visited upon us through the struggles of our ancestors, the government, colonization and slavery. All of these things still have a tremendous effect on both groups of people today. Furthermore, both groups have separate struggles that if you're not apart of either group, you wouldn't really be privy to, or be qualified to really speak on if you don't have to be/ know. So yes, black lives do matter. AND, Native lives matter just as much. They both matter equally and deserve just as much consideration as the other. Both different and deserving of rights.
These are not natives these are white ppl who think they are indian! The Indians were very dark skin! These ppl are white or have very very little native blood
Oprah, I know you will never read this, but thank you for putting this on youtube. This is educational and depressing. America needs to know what was done, what was taken, and how it's first people are forced to live. These people are owed for the wrongs that Europeans and their descendants did to them. It's very telling that the two groups most victimized by colonizers, Natives and African Americans, are also the poorest with seemingly the most dysfunctional family legacies.
Dark Feather IT WAS AND STILL IS AN AGENDA. Anglo Saxon Mission. Now there is a modern mission, that’s happening now. I forget what it’s called but the Anglos , before they took the Africans, took White people for hundreds of years for slaves too. And continued to do so into the black slave trade. These whites were much like the Native Americans and the Native African Tribes. Living With Mother Earth and all her Abundance. Giving thanks to the Great Spirit, that is now in organized religion called God(s). I am born white of Northern European decent. But not raised in organized religion, as a child I had and still have a need to live with nature and fend for myself that the “ ways” of modern life has attempted many times to bring me to technology, providing my food, enticing with big everything. But it never worked, the veil was always to thin and I am happiest having what I Need, and I HAVE ALWAYS HAD IT. Even becoming disabled in my twenties, could not bring me to dispair. And at 55, I have three great kids that are minded and same soul as me. Not trying to keep up with the Jones’s and not far from Spirit and Earth. Nourishing THIER body with organic food, and no processed or take out, very little drinking, no drugs. I was poisoned by my environment or vaccines as an infant and live with pain all my life. I grew up with that pain, and somehow managed to adjust and it is part of me. It’s just me, lol but I get up each day and go into the woods and watch nature and tend my gardens. I have felt , seen , and communed with Native Souls all my life. They smile because they know my Soul is not unlike theirs. I don’t know if they are interdimentional or are souls from the past, and I still feel them. I have always felt kindred with the plight. I have never understood what is still being done, I feel it like it’s happened to me. I recently met a friend that told me he had a dream that explained our connection and his “ feelings” to watch over me” ( I was hoping he was not going to that soul mate thing, lol , I am alone , but I like it) His dream was a quick clip of him as a pioneer, leading me, as a Native, large with child, on a horse to safety. That’s it, no more except he felt the child was born and I (she) lived a long life. Just a moment snapshot. So he feels the cycle has returned. So he checks up on me during this quarantine, and I am grateful. Where I live in the NorthEast, Many Natives are among us. A girl my daughters age is one of my 5 quarantine group, ( we all live close and have agreed to be happy among eachother and not expose ourselves, we have woods, we have a lake, we have hunting, we have gardens... ect,.. so we all provide for eachother..... it’s like a tribe!!! Lol ( be careful fulnwhat you wish for, You just might get it and spirit has a sense of humor and Corona accomplishes it) 🤣 on a serious note, this is a Reset, to reset all the wrongs. To make Balance happen again. This is our moment! There will be a shift!,.. back to BALANCE. Some will not survive, but many will , and we must REMEMBER.. our children’s children depend on it. And Spirit Is taking Retribution.
I have lots of respect for my Native American brothers, know that we Mexicans have a lot in common with you. Mexico is your land, your welcome to live and enjoy our country. 🇲🇽

You are the stewards of the land. You are the healers. Strategize & create your own economy. Reconnect with your power as the strong, resourceful & intelligent people you’ve always been. And always will be. Let the healing begin. I love you♥️✊🏽🤎
OMG yous are such amazing people. All my life I have been so amazed by your culture. The traditional clothes, art, dance and the way you respect your ancestors is absolutely BEAUTIFUL Please please please believe in yourselves..... yous have so much to offer not only your own tribes and people but the rest of the world by your uniqueness. Absolutely love your culture BE PROUD BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE ❤
I've worked in many trauma units. Those children are crying out for garbage bags, a broom, etc. They are more than happy to make their environment beautiful. They do not accept that they must be miserable. Those are adults pounding into their heads that being miserable is normal. Love is just as contagious as hate. One can not force one into anything. Even the worst villain can not protect him or her from the courage and strength that these children have.
I’ve always thought that Native American people are so beautiful and we could learn so much from them. I can’t begin to fathom what they’ve been through and the horrible things they have been put through. 💔
These are the people that could save us. America needs to wake up and save them. I give honor to all Native Americans, past, present and to come to us in the future.
All Native Americans are "The True Natives Of This Country! I have A Great Deal Of Respect For Them All in This Country. May God Bless Them All & Keep Them Safe.
I was crying the whole documentary and I understand their hardship and suffering and I love them all completely. I will be praying to God that they all be safe and sound. 🙏
I live in Reno, NV and I'm happy to say our city officials have gotten rid of Columbus Day and we now CELEBRATE "Indigenous Peoples Day"! I know it's not much, and it is much too late, but it's a step in the right direction.
I'm glad (and much relieved) there are elders wise enough to see the path to healing lies in walking the red road & are helping the youth to learn to walk that path. My prayers are with you.
Such beautiful people. Traditions and history. I pray for growth and development. Healing and blessings for these people. Our Indian ancestors suffered far too great for new generations to suffer worse.
What that lady said about people saying "just let it go it happened decades ago" every word she said after that's how blacks feel when people say "let it go,racism is gone, etc" but the effects is still on us today . We feel your pain & stand with you together we are stronger
Autumn Tarpkins. That’s PTSD, it happened some time ago. And for some of us it happens over and over and over again. I had to learn to stop cherishing the pain.
If USA quits focusing on the countries outside and start concentrating their inside states, they will be able to understand and solve a lot of problems. How come they have billions and billions of dollars to spend on war but not spend some million to correct the inside society. Hypocrisy, prejudice and racism.
I agree with you. Too much time and money being spent saving the world when the US citizens are sinking in a miasma of racism, drugs and financial problems.
The US doesn’t consider Natives and so called “African Americans” to be REAL citizens. We are prisoners of war and colonized. FYI, when the Europeans arrived most of the original Natives had very dark skin. Some had straight hair and others had kinky textured hair but we were the same people! The US neglects my people on purpose. Wake up or stay woke.
I worked on Pine Ridge in the ER, they called it the "suicide spirit" and its very sad that at one time PR had the highest teen suicide rate in 2015, and were as young as 12y, I'm trying to get back to PR to continue working, my work is still needed.
Breaks my heart to see my Native people suffer, but also makes me happy how we thrive to hang onto our Native ways in modern society despite what we go through
Kip is an admirable hero 💪👏 After knowing his native culture and finishing his education, he went back to the reservation to help the younger community.
Wow that woman eiline is amazing I can’t even imagine how mentally draining it is to talk and try to help people who are suicidal daily :( I hope they are all ok
I'm glad they have a skate park. I hope they get more. I know the reservations big. It's the size of my state, Connecticut. I want everyone to be in walking distance of one, and hopefully a charity can keep getting them boards. I know it's not everything, but Skateboarding saved me. Even if you're not any good it does something to you. Something good.
✌❤I have gone to several powwow's also. And, I agree, it brings a peaceful feeling. Powwow is a beautiful experience. I'm grateful for those experiences.🦅
Yes, you are amazing people. Much ❤ to the American Indians. Your children are children and contemplating suicide at their young ages is so sad. My husband is Cherokee and is proud of it. I feel like he needs to be part of helping the American Indians to survive in this world instead of just talking about being an American Indian.
This is so beautiful. Wish more people could see the beauty and purpose of cultural traditions and history. Even amid the sadness, there is strength and love that survives through their history.
This broke my heart. Such beautiful people rich with tradition and culture the white man tried to take away. I hope and pray for everyone of these people that they find hope and love and continue to persevere as they are such strong people.
I owe my life to the pow wow. My heart was so closed off from the world and in the pow wow..my heart started beating again. I cried for once in my life.. very powerful stuff. ❤
Excellent program. Finally a program with substance, authenticity and importance. A stark contrast to a lot of the inane garbage out there today. And Lisa treats the subject with such empathy and compassion. Bravo!
Hope the native people of this nation can find its footing in this fast growing environment. Alcohol is killing their people n culture. Thank you for shining the light.
While visiting a Native memorial site in New Mexico, and staying respectful, the kiva still being used for worship, I met with some young Native men. While we toured the site, I heard their stories of their ancestors and face painting, etc. and I shared stories of my ancestors who danced and painted their faces blue and had to deal with barbarian hordes that took our lands and abused us, took our language, native dress, religion, and language. What a wonderful memory and sharing time. Learning how we were more alike than different. Love is understanding, yeah? Thank you brothers.
Beautiful people! I have always want to stop at a reservation and drop off supplies when in South Dakota but when you look on the charity web sites, they say crime is high and outsiders are not really welcome. Not all of us white people are bad and some of us have American Indian blood running through our veins as well, even though we are light skinned and appear white. When my art business takes off more one of my goals is to try to find a way to help these people, they need jobs offered where they live so they can make a income to stop this cycle of poverty. Peaceful, proud people my heart goes out to them, bless them.
I've been saying this since George Floyd was murdered, I was also an advisor for the inter-tribal club back in 2001 2 and 3 the college that worked at I still even though they say it wasn't true witnessed a lot of racism. When the kids came to me and asked me if I would be there advisor I said I'm not Native American I'm Mexican. They laughed they said they didn't care because they knew I truly love them! I have family that are Native and love them! And truly Mexicans are Native and everything else lol! Anyways we ended up having the biggest club in all the kids wanted to join our club black, Polynesian, Mexican, white, Asian everyone wanted to be in our club! But the uppers didn't like it I guess so they made a club called the international club! But our club was still the best and we worked hard saving enough money to go to gatherings of the nations in Albuquerque, New Mexico! Adam Beach was there and it was probably the biggest highlight those kids and myself was able to see! I took my husband and my son I never realize how many different tribes there were it was amazing! All we kept saying was what a beautiful beautiful people! We had performances come when we had our Native American month we have the best performances and the most attendances up to 500 people 600 people came from around the community to see comedian Drew copo, Apache, comedian Vincent Craig comedian Navajo who I believe passed away God rest his soul! Amazing comedians! We had fancy dancer, rainbow dancers, grass dancers, color guard, crown dancers, Hopi dancers, all kinds natives entertainment! And the fry bread and Native tacos! Mutton and acorn soup!!! You name it we had it! all I can say is that I was tired of seeing the natives the black kid and polly kids Mexicans, getting treated different. Especially the black kids and the native kids. I always had all their backs I was tired of people stereo typing them. I was at a local Walmartwhere I live I saw a police officer with his foot on the back of a detained handcuffed facedown Native American who was drunk I recognized his friend I went up to the officer who was laughing in front of a lot of bystanders who laughing making fun of him because he was drunk! I told the officer are you kidding me he's not going nowhere! Shame on all of you you think this is funny! I told the officer get your damn foot off his back! and he did and I told him pick him up now so I went to go and help the guy get up and another officer recognized me saying I'll help you we picked him up and sat him on the bench and I yelled again at that other officer and said being an alcoholic isn't something you want to be it wasn't like your ancestors didn't take the liquor to the rez and give it to them after killing their buffalo and raping their women and killing their children all4gold so don't ever do this to another Native American in front of me buddy! And the crowd that was there because everybody knows who I am walked away I told them to leave it wasn't a show to see! I will always stick up for what's right no matter what the consequences are! My niece and nephew grandma is Apache and we just love her! God bless you all stay safe during the Coronavirus take care of the older generation Young Generation your grandparents are very important listen to what they have to say you can learn something about real life God bless you all as read this!
The heartbreak in this is indescribable. My late grandfather was Creek, born in 1933. I remember him speaking about his disgust with alcohol because his dad and uncles were alcoholics and made his life so difficult. Alcohol seemed to plague the entire indigenous population. I love y'all.
My heart breaks for all our beautiful people in this documentary who have suffered… Miss Lonnie I hope you keep doing what you’re doing, what an angel you are for those girls.
This is so powerful!! I wish everybody on that reservation a safe, beautiful and healthy life. All the people interviewed and the unknown are beautiful empowering and special. You all have gifts and are seen 💙💜💚💛
I grew up in Northern Maine and there is a pretty big Mi’kmaq reservation there. I grew up with them, I’m still good friends with a lot of them even though I moved. I used to hang out up there with them all the time and those are some of my favorite memories. I hope things change for them one day
If I were president, my number one priority would be to help Native Americans. It's criminal that their needs have been ignored for so long, especially the childrens'. Other minorities are important but Native Lives Matter too.
So helpful for me individually to help me grasp things I knew existed but didn't know how to truly understand and I have so much love for each of these children and parents for helping not only thier own communities but speakimg to outsiders like me who genuinely want to understand. Thank you truly
We should care because we are ALL human and God tells us to love thy neighbor! Thank you Lisa , your reports are amazing and hope it touches Americans hearts.
How about opening a factory, a bank, a YMCA, a cooperative grocery store with a community garden, a car garage ??? How much would this cost?? Can’t be more than 100 million. It would take 2 or 3 companies to make this happen. Come on corporate America! It’s not a handout! Much is owed to the Indians
Capitalism doesn't benefit from the Indigenous people prospering unfortunately. These are land protectors. Gov wants to define us out of existence so that they can get to the resources of the last remaining lands these Indigenous people have been forced on. I recommend looking up information on the Pipelines trying to fight native title across Canada and America. Probably all around the world's tbh. Resource extraction and greed is worth more then human lives and culture and law.
That's not as easy as you think. It's been tried. Even if the local council wants it, they have to get permission from the BIA to build, and that takes years, if not decades.
@MYSTERIOUS JIMI HAHAHA *GASPS* HAHAHA. No. This has been to court so many times it's not funny. The Supreme Court has determined that Indian land isn't able to be under the purview of the US Government, and that we aren't able to determine the fate of our own property. It has to go through the BIA. If we want to sell it? Talk to the BIA. Build a permanent structure? BIA. The Wal-Mart in Durant OK, aka Choctaw Nation territory, took 10 years to actually open because the BIA is such a sham they aren't allowed to have access to the Internet to do their jobs, and have stolen billions of dollars from the collective nation since formed. Kindly don't lecture someone who actually has lived in your "simple" world.
I’m proud to say I’m a sober Native American woman ✊🏼

#Biden 2020 because it doesn’t fit the agenda.
America treats black people alot worst. America is babylon that is why she is falling now. Repent you satanic workers of iniquity.
#Biden 2020 Unfortunately racism is something a lot of people deal or have dealt with. I do think having social media helps shine the light on the roaches that hide lol

@Aron Toulouse even if it is just shifting our eyes so we cant have it.
Ya and we all need to stop ignoring our real problems in this country. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and comments
Really need to do a documentary on the reserves in northern Canada. We are lost, but slowly finding our way..
There's a documentary called Nahanni River of Forgiveness!! I just heard about it today on the cbc! It sounds really good!

The USA government doesn’t need the fake Indians anymore! That’s why they treat them like this! They used the fake Indians to take the the true Indians identity, the Indians are not white

We can't just say this is wrong its so sad... we can't just be kind and egalitarian friends... this needs action.
Love this!
And that is the truth of what we as people of color stand up for...each other!
@@brelovesgucci Youre absolutely right!

Dark Feather
IT WAS AND STILL IS AN AGENDA.
I recently met a friend that told me he had a dream that explained our connection and his “ feelings” to watch over me” ( I was hoping he was not going to that soul mate thing, lol , I am alone , but I like it)
His dream was a quick clip of him as a pioneer, leading me, as a Native, large with child, on a horse to safety.
Do you ever ask yourself way is lake that. That people nothing to do for better futures, specially for their kids.

The reservation is not part of America anyways it’s a different country
How Bout free them, why they have to be in a reservation?? Looks to me that the reservations are more like prisons..😒
That's not as easy as you think. It's been tried. Even if the local council wants it, they have to get permission from the BIA to build, and that takes years, if not decades.
@MYSTERIOUS JIMI HAHAHA *GASPS* HAHAHA.
