- The government has pledged nearly £22bn over 25 years to fund projects that capture greenhouse gases from polluting plants and store them underground, as it races to reach strict climate targets.
We asked Energy Secretary Ed Miliband where these billions of pounds will come from, he replied: "Public investment. We believe in borrowing to invest. It's absolutely the right thing to do for Britain."

At last we have found the 22bn black hole, once the economy has been destroyed and we have no money at least we can keep ourselves warm with the knowledge that we have reduced our carbon footprint and made absolutely no difference to global emissions
Continuous taxpayer funded for zero return, basically another civil service.
Borrowing to invest is good. Borrowing to squander is disastrous!
Let's just hope it's a good investment....
@@stokey24How can carbon capture produce profit ?
@@timg1246great investment. A small cost today for a better future for generations to come.
Thought they had a £22 billion black hole !
When Liz Truss tried borrowing money Liebour accused her of 'crashing the economy'. Now they're doing exactly the same. Hypocrisy.
‘Tis the socialist way.
No it's not because truss decided to increase borrowing with no plan for future government revenue to make up the shortfall
Lettuce liz 😂😂😂 still funny
What a load of bollox
@@MichaelJones-wh9cyHow does carbon capture provide profit ?
He makes me sick
Can’t afford winter fuel payments.
But they can afford to give almost 20 times that amount.
To private companies to build wind turbines.
They we get charged an extortionate amount for that so called green energy.
Sounds more like a con, then an investment!
So the £22bn hole was a lie?
Just read Nottingham city council is spending nearly 700 k over the next 5 years on funding health care for 'asylum seekers ' Those also that have also not been granted asylum. The council declared bankruptcy last year. Labour council
£22 Billion for climate funding! These fools waste money like nobody's business. Absolutely crazy.
lol, tories wanted to spend 120billion on a railway 😂🤣😂
They left 12trillion in debt and the country on its knees 😂🤣😂
Dont he such a sheep!
Seriously, *£22bn in climate funding?* He’s off his head.
£22 billion to invest in green / renewable is fine. If that £22 billion was creating wind farms, solar panels or manufacturing plants for said green technology.
Carbon capture is just stupid.
@Patrick-y4d1z Wind and solar are not viable. The only renewable that is viable is hydroelectricity.
@Patrick-y4d1z If the UK achieved net zero tomorrow, by how many degC will the planet cool in the next 100 years?
@@NoWindNoSunNoPower
Wind and solar are 100% viable. But we shouldn't rely on a single method.
Hydroelectric is arguably the best form of renewable energy - but it's about scale.
If every new build had solar panels, that would cut a lot of domestic energy requirements. Simultaneously build hydroelectric and wind.
Personally, I would prefer focus on solar for urban sites (homes, commercial areas etc), and then hydroelectric for the rest.
@@NoWindNoSunNoPower
To your second point. Interrestingly, there is a delay in global warming by approximately 200 years.
So even if the entire planet stopped 100% of carbon production right now, it would continue to warm for another two centuries.
So us reaching 100% renewable next year would be minimal in terms of effect and would not stop the planet cooling.
However, don't just view it from the several-hundred year span of reversing climate change. Look at it at the perspective of energy sustainability. It should allow for cheaper energy and energy independence from countries like Russia.
Wow, are people actually still listening to this nut job
Nut job compared to who?

Imagine believing a word they say. Story carriers 🥴
I thought we were broke? Yet this idiot finds the cash for his crazy ideas.
W⚓!
Very puzzling that £22 billion for carbon capture is found Not long after a £22 billion black hole in the economy is mentioned Nice one to invest in a process that has never worked on a large scale anywhere else in the world
😂😂😂 well,we voted for "CHANGE" and now we got it!
Any nuclear power projects on the horizon?
Here we go.

Yet they still manage to f themselves up somehow
Same old shyte.
Where on earth did they find 22bn oh I forgot we lost our winter fuel allowance because they say when they took office funny it’s the same mount they they imagined they had when they took office what a load of rubbish
Tadah !!!! they've found the black hole, it's in Ed Milibands face
Remember when Brexit was meant to lead to sunlit uplands.
Remember the ‘cliff edge’……😂
Brexit let's us make our own decisions. Unfortunately, 33.7% of the electorate have put in place a government that is determined to follow the siren song coming from Brussels.
Reds still believe in Keynes…it fails when they run out of other peoples’ money.
Ask him about lord Janner ..CPS...etc
I do this in my personal life as well. I borrow to invest in food and shelter. It’s a sound financial strategy. If only I could borrow money but make someone else pay it back, and use the funds to invest in my brother-in-law’s company, then I’d be in Parliament.
Doing research as he speaks.....lots of failed projects when it comes to large scale plant projects.
sorry? wasnt there a 22 billion pound black hole?
Juliet Echo Whiskey talks of borrowing while giving billions to his brethren leaders in Ukraine and Israel then saying pensioners who paid in all their days have to make sacrifices of warmth.
It's looks like he doesn't know what he's talking about but it's quite simple what's going on.
They really are clueless
Blackhole in Starmers accounts of truth too.
Regardless of the appalling mess left by The BrexitClowns, money still needs to be invested - especially after the lunacy of Brexit which has seen our GDP fall by around 4%
Put that money into education
Really lol, the UK is screwed both politically and financially, sinking fast into the abyss, so to all western countries. We are officially a third world country and no amount of fiat money printing will change this. Watch Professor Richard Wolff for all finance info.
I wouldn't get his view about what's happening down at Tescos deli
OMG. Clueless individual. Truss lost the argument because of the "debt" bogeyman. Now this clown talks about debt delivering "jobs". Employer NI is so high it will not produce jobs for us. It will just give more of our money to the likes of Tata. He said, again, we are overtaxed and Labour will "fix" it. How? When?
Hang on, band C rating for all new lets by 2030? What about those of us living in employer-provided accommodation? Will we get a discount on our benefit in kind tax for coping with inefficient homes? Is all this just hollow chat from someone who hasn't considered the bigger picture?
The guys not the full shilling he will be out on his arse by Christmas
People. The £22bn black hole is from this year's budget. This money for carbon capture is allocated for future years and is spread over 25 years. The Tories overspent reserves 3 times over hence the 22bn hole THIS year.
There is no black hole in accounting. The detail of the shortfall would be known, but Liebour won’t expose the info as there is no black hole, apart from
11 billion to Climate aid in Africa
+
8 billion public wages rises
= Liebour created the black hole.

rule number 1 " DONT BORROW TO INVEST"
Carbon capture is not even investment. It really is just expenditure.
It has been always Labour to borrow money to invest. As far as I can remember it. It is just the way they do business 😄
Lessons learned from PFI scandal under Labour?
@T5Zplayer
Paying billions annually for schools and hospitals that the financier will own after 99 years.....
The 5th generation of taxpayers who pays the last installments off then has to make a rental agreement with the financiers so said taxpayers can keep using the same schools and hospitals 🤨
This bloke looks simple
I was looking for 8 years of housing to secure continued production towrads an internationally desired product.
And would relocate if it was a requirement for the deal Ed.
I thought Russia or Ukraine, both might make an investment borrow to invest as it were.
Because what i want is to secure that this is the work i am contracted to conduct for the next so and so
so i can then go get a room, make an office, buy food, pay bills
and continue working towards the end product.
Is this the type of thing england can offer, if a team of experts
could analyse and secure
or would i be better to try and bank on it that way for another nation?
