      We don't need anymore DAWs the market is already oversaturated enough. Due large format consoles dying out console manufactures are breaking into the digital market. Focusrite was once an analog only manufacture until they started making interfaces in the early 2000s starting with the M-Box.

    Now that looks like a worthy little device. It definitely gives me the impression, of one of their much larger digital desks. Which I have used. And that seems to be pretty bad ass.
    The integration with ProTools looked very nice in this demonstration. If you like that hands-on feel of a large master desk. And I do. There's something much more Zen. About being hands-on and tactile with your mixing. And I would be happy to be running the Masters of a lot of stereo groups. With just a handful of faders. And then also to be able to grab for a particular channel. To tweak, to my hearts content. In that layer. Then you are just flipping through layers. It's great!
    I used one of their early, Acxiom MT, digital desks. And that took about 3 months to wrap your mind around. A little over 20 years ago. As one of the first master digital audio consoles. And you could configure it any which way through Friday. But not on Tuesdays. Tuesday you might just use someone else's preset? Let's try Mikey's preset today. He's doing what with the EQ and dynamics on channel 9? Really? Holy shit! What a moron! Let me change that. And then save the preset without telling him. What do you mean you're locked? WTF? When I then had my first taste of digital consoles. I could select his preset. I couldn't reset his preset. And I was like, this is going to be very interesting over the long haul.
    Now this little gizmo looks so much more convenient. It still doesn't make much sense but that's just SSL. You either like them or you hate them. I know how Bob Clearmountain feels about them. And that's good enough for me. As long as I can track with Neve and/or API. Then I'm good.
    I am seriously considering one. Thanks for the great demonstration!

    I like where the original Analog gear guys are doing now merging with the DAW life... However! they need to get ppl on board on their team to come up with modern creative ways for
    1. Eternal usage for mixing out of the box
    2. Under the hood mechanics for smooth and intuitive communication with DAWS for Mix Engineers
    3. Exterior designs "make sense" real-estate for Mix Engineers
    Nothing groundbreaking here. But The idea is fantastic.

    It would be helpful if the controller would show channel colors. With 50-100+ track sessions, it would be a nice visual aid. But anyways a really useful-looking controller. Just what I've been waiting for.

    • @yookalaylee2289
      @yookalaylee2289 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That’s exactly my problem with these types of control surfaces. It’s not easy to correlate what’s on screen to the control surface with out color indicating. Not to mention any project above maybe 16 tracks becomes very inefficient to find the fader for the track you’re looking for. Also, if you are spending this kind of money, it’s likely you already have a well established work flow. This device will necessitate changing those behaviors. I think this product is for people that think tactile is superior for no reason other than being stuck in the past.

    that looks pretty nice in the fact that it can certainly do a lot of things, but i'd like to actually see a real time usage video with someone who was incredibly comfortable using this to see how it actually performs in a real world scenario because right now it just seems to me that it would take so much longer to tweak stuff with all of the buttons you'd have to press to get there instead of just moving a mouse and clicking a few times

The Behringer did not work well with Pro Tools. As an actual working audio engineer that owns two Avid S1's and the Dock, what attracts me is the 360 app, and SSL's reputation for quality. And though I'm fairly happy with my Avids and I use Pro Tools 90% of the time, I still would like to see this and try it. I'm very used to using faders. Can you assign all three layers to Logic Pro X as then you would have 3 times the amount of assignable buttons when using Logic?

    • @sweetwater
      @sweetwater  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching! Yes, you can assign the same DAW to all three layers of the UF8 for access to more assignable control. Just be aware that this will require some extra setup in your DAW - the DAW will need to see each UF8 layer as a separate HUI or MCU, using SSl V-MIDI 2 and 3. As a bonus, the faders in each layer will cover the designated 8 channels in the layout to which they are assigned. Basically, you’re creating a “virtual” UF8 for each layer.
      Hope this helps,
      Mitch

I know it can be used via footswitch (but who does it...?) or assigned to the top row of switches (and who wants it at the top...?) but to me that is a major underestimate. The SSL Matrix is well thought and laid out, they should've made a condensed of that in this UF8...

    YESSSSS! Maybe this one can finally substitute my Command 8.

    • @TheMannerlessShow
      @TheMannerlessShow 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It won’t..if you want a substitute for the command 8, and are working on anything before PT2019, a Digi 003 factory is a better option...if you’re working with anything after PT2019 I’d take the Avid Artist Series over this by a long shot

      @@TheMannerlessShow what makes the artist series better? Genuinely curious.

    • @TheMannerlessShow
      @TheMannerlessShow 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@iag127 various things...the price tag being nearly $500-700 cheaper on an artist mix (used, cuz you can’t get them new anymore), dedicated buttons for 90% of the functions you’re gonna use regularly, actual transport controls on the artist transport and artist control, faster and more accurate automation writing because of eucon, more in depth custom mapping of controls all the way down to macro functions, soft key mapping altogether is something HUI doesn’t have that Eucon does which makes everything so much easier,....i could go on...
      But i will say, the faders on this might actually be a little better than the Artist mix/control faders were, simply because of time and progression. Those old Artist series faders were derived from the C24. But the S1 faders are far superior from what I’ve experienced with them. The only drawback to Eucon that i can see, or have seen in my use, has been that you have to set up a router and network to run multiple instances of the console. So if you want 3 artist mixes and an artist control, you can’t connect them directly to one another or your computer. You connect each one to a router and the router to your computer. It’s a bit of a process to set up initially, but once you know how to do it, it only really takes about 3-5 minutes

      Hey, Evil Sounds, Thanks for reaching out about the New SSL UF8. These new controllers are amazing. They will work with two control protocols, HUI and MCU. It supports all major DAW software. Luna is not technically a DAW and the version One does not have controller support. If there is anything else we can help with, please reach out.

      Hey, Farid. Thank you for reaching out. The best interface to pair with the UF8 really depends on what you are wanting to do. There are lots of great interfaces - SSL, UAD, Apogee. It really depends on your needs, though. Give us a call and we can talk over your setup and get the right one for you.

      Hey, Daniel. Thank you for checking out our TH-cam video! The new SSL UF8 is an amazing piece of gear and in my opinion the best small format controller on the market. It looks and feels great. It can be used to control the automation of your plug-ins. Using the encoders on the top and the soft buttons you will be able to make your adjustments to your plug-ins in write mode. It also has tons of other amazing features and deep integration due to the SSL 360 software.
