- This is my review of the Carvin JB200C Jason Becker Tribute Guitar. Jason Becker is my favorite musician so when I heard that Carvin was making this guitar available I sold two of my Hamer USA guitars and an Amp to fund this purchase...it was totally worth it!
www.carvinguitars.com/customsh...
Jason Becker receives a portion of the proceeds for every JB200C or JB200SC sold so it's a win-win for everyone...you get a LOT of guitar for the money. I hope Carvin sells a boatload of these guitars.
My JB200C has the following custom options: Jumbo Stainless Steel frets, 14" Fretboard Radius and the Deep Triple Step finish.
Sorry about the long video...I got a little nutty with the demonstration portion of the review (like 10 minutes worth lol). Oh well it's my first review. ;-)
P.S. I have NO idea why the video goes black and white in a few spots...thanks Windows Movie Maker! - เพลง
Some guitarists still don't understand what a fantastic value Carvin offers. This guitar, with these specs would be easily $3000 or more built by a high-end Luthier like Suhr.
love the voice over edit at 0:50 hahaha
the guitar looks totally amazing
Lol - I think you caught my edit....I had accidentally said 15" in the recording so I overdubbed it saying 25" but it was a LOT louder. Oh well....this was my sixth take on the review portion....I just felt weird talking to myself.
Ha ha loved the way you acted so modest and said " Don't expect me to sound like Jason becker" like you were gonna be a pile of crap on guitar :) .... then you plug it in and you were really amazing ha ha :) well cool ! it a really good video :) \m/
Thanks!
Ya Dave. Give yourself A little credit, you’ve obviously spent your time in the woodshed . Great review
Great review! Loved every minute, definitely going to buy this guitar, Jason is an amazing player and an amazing inspiration, you are very lucky to have met him!
Cool guitar! I ordered my own Becker tribute ST300 Carvin back in the spring of 2009 when they first offered the large logo before they started selling the jb200. Nearly identical to this but with birdseye maple board, chrome hardware, & reverse headstock. I opted for solid maple body wings like the original 80s ones had. Dam thing sustains forever! I really like playing on stainless jumbo frets too...massive bends and smooth vibrato are effortless.
Such a great review, amazing playing too. Seriously i'm thinking of buying it after watching this
wow, i am seriously blown away by this guitar, its just incredible. Your playing is flawless and so sweet and melodic, im jealous haha. Jason would be proud of you playing so beautifully on his tribute model.
Holy crap man! Amazing playing! Bravo! I would love to pick up one of these. Such a gorgeous piece of craftsmanship. Thanks for the review.
Thank you for the review and excellent playing. I've got my eye on one of these in the builder and you have really helped.
Thanks, great review. Really nice playing too. My custom JB200C in on the way. Can't wait.
Best guitar demo I've ever seen man, great playing and everything. I hope to buy a JB sometime in 2014.
Sweet! You're gonna love it man...I'm already saving up for another one. Thanks! Post pics in the Carvin forum when you get it.
Awesome job on the review man it was very informative. I cant wait to get my hands on the jb200sc I ordered.
I'm glad you can play it well, you deserve that guitar my friend! Keep it up!
Very good playing skills. You sure can play that beauty. Keep rocking my dude.
I have to apoligize for my last comment! You obviously warmed up as you played!! Excellent video. I'll be following you.
Outstanding! Recently dusted off my old vinyl copy of 'Perpetual Burn'. Such an inspiring artist. Great playing by the way!
Thanks!
Really good job of explaining all the options!...carvin should pay you!....debating one of these...I like the fact that some money goes to jason when you purchase one!...and your playing is very good!
Thanks! They are really amazing guitars.
Very good job! That tone is in your fingers. Keep shreddin’!
Congratulations ! Awesome guitar and great licks !
That was some incredible playing. I admit I was never really a Jason fan, but this axe is absolutely on my GAS list. Thanks for the great demo!
Well, you've convinced me....I was really leaning towards ordering one of these. Time to put in my order. Awesome playing, and a really good review. I checked out the tabs you've posted on the BBS, you should post up some more of those licks, they were awesome!
Excellent job & mind blowing chops, please upload some more videos!
Thanks!
Dave,
I love your choice of words and the informative review you have given. I also want to say that they playing is fantastic! Very Jason Becker-like which I love. I have covered some of his music myself and know how difficult it is and can be. I would like to get one of these guitar as soon as I can. If you have any music I'd love to hear it
David...you amaze me! I read most of the comments and your replies . I do believe you respond to all of them . (and there's a shitload of them) very impressive ! I am not just saying that cuz i'm biased . Love you ! Auntie A
Sorry for all the posts, but it's exciting to see such an Awesome instrument in the hands of a master such as yourself!
Amazing playing, brother!!! I need a guitar like that!!
Lol - easier said than done sir! Jason's songs are played so beautifully and have so much nuanced and emotive phrasing all the way through...on top of that they are a serious commitment practice-wise. I am 40 years old and a father with a full-time job. I'm lucky I got this review done...;-)
I really enjoyed watching you. I bet you could have played these flawlessly if you had not had this camera filming. you sounded really good. Thank you man.
I love the pickups - the bridge pickup is similar to a Seymour Duncan Super Distortion but with a little more bottom end. the bridge pickup is great as well and on both pickups they split coils nicely. With the added active circuitry it opens a lot of doors tonally.
I'm blown away by your tone and playing!
Thanks!
Thanks again! Rock on man. I've been looking for a decent practice amp and now thanks to you I think I've found it. I have a Marshall YJM 100 and a Carvin x100b but I can't very well take those with me to teach students. And I'm going to check out that recorder and found a decent camera wish me luck! I'm such a noob when it comes to recording digitally when it comes to technology and what not. You've been a tremendous help. Thanks man. Keep ripping.
Thanks! I actually started by alternate picking arpeggios. When I was 17 I think as I got faster it kind of naturally morphed into sweeping. I did consciously start cleaning up my sweeping by going very slowly....concentrating on getting every note clean. Not sure I accomplished that but there really is no better thing than practice. About 23 years ago (I was 17) I would practice 8 hours a day...crazy. lol
You are the man! Not only is your message filled with details but I think thats the fastest response time ever! lol We must have been up at the same time. I'll check that stuff out man. Thanks again, I've been playing 24 years but I am such a noob when it comes to modern technology. Take care.
MAN!! THIS IS THE PERFECT REVIEW OF ANY GUITAR!! YOUR PLAYING IS SO CLEAN AND FLAWLESS!! WHATS AMP DID YOU USE FOR THE TONE?? WOW!
Arefin Khandaker Thanks man! It's a Fender Mustang 2
Outstanding playing , really enjoy it . I'll be listening to this over and over ....
That was an incredible review/demonstration. You play the guitar amazingly well very clean and very fast with nice tone my friend I was blown away when you first started doing runs. Your sweeps are so good you cant really tell they are sweeps they are very clean you do this guitar justice Im sure Jason Becker has seen this video and is very proud!! God Bless Carvin Guitars, Dave Naranjo and most of all Jason Becker we all hope that a cure for Lou Gehrigs disease is found as soon as possible.
Dude thanks a lot! for your review and your time doing the memos and all the test with the pickups. as you i am very fan of jason, is my favorite guitar player and inspiration, i want that guitar but i am from colombia so is a little hard to get it and very expensive anyway i am working very hard to get it, definitly that is the guitar for me. you're very good player and very similar to jason in some arpegios and chords! i will aprecite all the stuff you do with this guitar, i'll keep going you
Outstanding!
I saw your review 2 months ago and ordered it identical to what you have sans the stainless frets.
Carvin owes you. I then proceeded to order 7 more ( all a mix of DC series) So i'm going to have a very busy few weeks ahead opening pkgs from Carvin.
I've been buying them since 1990. In total I will have 18 when the smoke clears.
Sweet! You will love this guitar....thanks for the feedback as well.
Except for the first 3 things (Jason Becker snippets) everything I played was improvised (basically) so it would be tough to tab the whole thing. Thanks again!
Man, you won a subscriber.
You're one of a kind player!
Just wanted to say you have chops for days man, nice work
Thanks!
Killer review! Welcome to the World of Carvin!
10:16 that bend hit me so hard i almost fell off the chair
great review and fantastic playing man.
Thanks!
Awesome reveiw!!! i was initally interested in getting the 25th anniversay Jackson mike shannon build guitar but felt that the guitar was more of a collectors guitar not necessarily for an individual who plays on stage and in the studio. I looked around and found this in a magazine add, the Specs are mindblowing not to mention how awesome it sounds plus the fact that you can customize it to you liking from Carvin was a must buy for me. I am definitely gonna buy this guitar within a few weeks, thank you so much for this awesome review and you play the guitar really good : ) Cheers
Sweet! You won't be sorry - go to the carvinbbs.com and look around at some of the options available...they are amazing instruments. You can now get the JB200C and JB200SC guitars with a Carvin factory installed Seymour Duncan Perpetual Burn Jason Becker Humbucker as well. ;-)
Amazing player . Great demo. You should do demos for kiesel guitars without a doubt.
bluesleonard Thanks man!
Fantastic playing, Brother!!!
Thank you for your review!!!
Great guitar and great playing! The "twenty five" part in beginning scared the shit out of me thanks to my headphones and volume turned up :D
Thanks! This guitar is awesome...I am saving to get another one. Sorry about the volume on 25"...in the video I had accidentally said 15" and had to dub it real quick...I didn't realize there was such a volume difference.
Dave Naranjo That is not a big problem! :D Great to see that Jason is still enjoying music and making it too. I see that you are good friends with him? Some day i would like to see him too. By the way, can you name your favorite Jason Becker song? Cacophony and DLR included too ^_^
***** My favorite is probably Images from Cacophony's Go Off! album but there are SO many favorite moments in a lot of his tunes as well.
You know mate, you just sold me this guitar!! Thanks to you for this review. Btw you kick ass, love your playing
Nice playing and review brother! That guitar is a dream!!
Thanks! The amp was a Fender Mustang II using the stock patches....pretty simple. You will love the guitar.....make sure you look into all the options....Carvin has a web builder on their site that's pretty awesome.
Hey Dave, great playing and the guitar looks and sounds awesome. Enjoy it!
Thats a great looking guitar. I get my SB 5000 bass in 2 days and I can't wait! carvin has come leaps and bounds these past few years. Great gear without spending a MINT (which I havedone several times!). Enjoy!
Great demonstrations! Agree 100% with this video. It's a fantastically versatile guitar.
haha om man yes i did and it is awesome. i got it September 28. i have yet to post pics or anything to the forums because i have just been playing this thing, best guitar ive ever had.
Great review sir! Love the playing as well! !But I have to say that the best part of the review was.... The shirt!! hehe.. JK brother! Thanks for posting this up! I remember sending away for Perpetual Burn (on cassette!)waaay back in the 80's and my jaw dropping to the floor when I first heard it! Becker is just awesome and I hope Carvin sells a ton of these as well!
Great bro, clear explanation... Amazing guitar shred, good job ...👍👍👍
Thanks!
Been watching the ESP LTD 203-QM but now....and since my fave palyer of all times is Jason.
I know what guitar to get!! Cheers
Thanks for your reply, i'll try with an energy regulator, hope that works.
Thanks for everything man, and great playing btw.
That tone on the neck pickup single coil is to die for...
Tony Lord Yes it is...just imagine it on a nice tube amp
Thanks Scott! I have been playing 25 years now...lol. Jason Becker is my favorite but I would consider my influences as follows: Yngwie, Marty Friedman, Satriani, Vai, Michael Lee Firkins, Greg Howe, Guthrie Govan, SRV...etc. Truthfully though...I practiced some "shreddy" stuff for 3 weeks in preparation for this review because I knew Jason's fans would want to see that on his guitar.
Beautiful guitar you have there man! I'm jealous! Very nice review.
TWENTYFIVE
*ears blow up**
JAWS
Thanks! You will love it...congrats!
seriously considering buying this guitar , i like some of the holdsworth models as well ...
But this review and the sound, just beautiful
I am jacked bro . I am going to order one of these in this Black cherry Red burst . This is a new process Kissel developed recently and the first Becker Guitar guitar that will be built in that finish
Nice man! That sounds awesome.....looking forward to seeing it!
Awesome guitar and awesome playing. I've never heard anybody come as close to sounding like Jason.
Great review for one of my favourite instruments! by the way you play like a beast!
great review and beautiful guitar!!!
lets see more reviews.
That was amazing. You sound just like Jason. I only wish I had the talent and the money to buy that guitar.
Not a lot - just parts of my favorites. Learning Jason's stuff is a serious commitment!
Outstanding review. Outstanding playing!
Thanks!
Thanks....no problem. The exact setting for the rock tone is called Sic delay Comp, I downloaded it using the Fender Fuse application that comes with the amp. I think it's basically a hot Marshall modeling patch. The camera is a Samsung Galaxy S3 phone and the mic is a Zoom H1 Handy recorder. I mixed the audio and video using Windows Movie Maker. Thanks again!
Dude that bend/squeal at 09:23 is the best thing i have heard the whole year.
Yeah these amps are pretty badass...great clean and distorted tones. They have a new v.2 version out now which I hope to get. If I do I'll do a review of that one. Thanks.
I need to add that I've never seen so much talent in a gear demo before!!!! You've got it in spades son & then some!!!!!
Sweet tone, killer playing, well done mate.
excellent review and play!! you totally deserve that piece of art, enjoy it! :)
Joaquín Antequera Thanks!
Thanks! The action came setup pretty low with 10's from the factory. I put 9.5's and raised the action just a bit for my preference. The guitar came setup perfect but I tend to like a little higher action.
Didn't hear about this guitar until about 5 minutes ago, what a fuckin' beast of an instrument. Great review. I want one now.
Thanks for posting this great video Dave!
I am on the verge of pulling the trigger for one of these. What are some options that you would recommend right off the bat?
By the way! GREAT PLAYING!
Thanks! The amp is a Fender Mustang II using a patch called SIC Delay Comp.
Thanks! I believe the neck is .75" at the 1st fret and .85" at the 12th fret. It's an awesome neck BTW.
Great job and good video! I'm saving up for one now.
Thanks! I just ordered a JB200SC Swamp Ash body and a Swamp Ash top in Crimson Red. Should be here by April. You will love it....these guitars kick all manner of ass.
Just ordered my JB200C! 60 day wait.
great review and great playing too!
Thanks! Carvin makes some awesome instruments for sure.
Thanks! This guitar is amazing - I need another one soon.
Thanks! I dig these Carvin guitars....I will be buying another when I get some cash.
Thanks! - I think you are referring to the Zoom H1 Handy recorder I used (on the couch next to me) that I used to capture my voice and amp audio. The video camera is my Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone. The amp is a Fender Mustang II. Thanks again!
Lately I've been dreaming playing this guitar
Thanks man! Mine was $1599 plus my options which brought to about $1800...go to the Carvin website and go through the online builder and it will tell you how much a JB200C or JB200SC with your desired options will cost.
I really the passive sounds you get from this guitar. Tasty playing!
Thanks!
wow..nice playing .all the best and keep it up
Amazing guitar... Amazing playing. Thanks for posting.
The neck is maple and the Fretboard is Flamed Maple (this is the standard configuration) Jason's original DC200 had a flamed maple neck as well as Fretboard.
Thanks! Hopefully the JB200's keep selling well so they will still be making em then...
Thanks! I'll see if I can find it somewhere but it is part of Jason Becker's Mabel's Fatal Fable from Perpetual Burn. You can probably find the tab online.
Great playing, Great review!
Btw I have the same issues with the frets, so thanks for pointing out you have the option of stainless steel frets
