      I just found this channel and I'm binging the videos. You're right. He's so friendly but what I like the most is the mix of the high brow and the low brow books. I did an English degree and I was all about the high brow before but life didn't go as planned and I must say, a fast feel-good book is a treasure. I'm reading This Book Will Save Your Life by A. M. Homes and it literally picked up my spirit. It's sooo good. It won't win any awards but it will win many hearts.

    How you felt about the characters in The Stand is how I felt about Shogun. After I was done reading that giant epic, I didn't start a new book for a week plus. I just wanted those characters to live longer in my head.

      I read Shogun in highschool and can remember feeling that wayy too. I should give that a reread.

    Small Things Like These is a masterpiece - it has been made into a movie with Cillian Murphy playing the lead 😊

    I'm currenty reading "Jazz" by Toni Morrison and I absolutely LOVE IT. They didn't have "The Bluest Eye" in my local bookshop (already ordered it, it's due to arrive in a few days), so I got the next best thing... Apart from the content itself and the time period it's set in (the 1920's in the USA, one of my favorite eras), it's so beautifully written. I guess all of her books are like that, from what you said about the other one...
    Also, I was devastated to see that 3-star rating for "Tom Gordon" hahhahhha, it's on my to-read list already

    • @booksaresick
      @booksaresick  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Nice nice nice. I'll be picking up Jazz sometimes soon as well - looking forward to that one! Don't be put off by the 3 stars for Tom Gordon, haha! It's still a fun read, it just doesn't really compare to the other King books I've read.

    The Picture of Dorian Grey is my friend's favourite novel. I still haven't read it. There are just so many good contemporary books. Like I'm looking at my TBR right now and I see: The Vanishing Half, The Firekeeper's Daughter, The Birthday Party, Beartown (I think you'd probably enjoy that one), Faces in the Water (an account of a lady in a real mental insinuation in the 50's), Demon Copperhead, Stay True (a memoir), The Dandelion (a Canadian coming-of-age story in Quebec), The Invisible Life of Addie Larue etc etc and I just can't reach for those older books ATM. I mean, there's real life besides books after all and ... I've forgotten about that before, buried myself in reading, and I won't do it ever again. Thanks for the recommendations. I'm really going to try to read Blue Eyes and some Claire K. too maybe. You've got such a good personality for youtube.

    "The girl who loved tom gordon" sounds a lot like "a shining" by jon fosse. I read it in less than a day this past january as its only 74 pages! But it sounds so similar. Its all "im lost in the woods and im cold and i dont know what to do but i cant do anything cus im lost in the woods and theres a glowing being looking at me, but im lost in the woods" 😂 its kind of nearly annoyingly repetitive but funny enough to entertain. One of those books that make you sit there for a minute after finishing, asking yourself "what did i just read?".

    Somehow missed out on Dorian gray in my English degree, but want to get to it. I’ve read Foster by Claire Keegan and really liked it. I want to read more from her! The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon is one of only two Stephen King books I’ve read. Liked it, but I’m a bit intimidated by his bigger horror books. New to your channel. Appreciate your reviews!
