My father worked and retired from csx and I used to ride from Baltimore to Ohio in the engine a lot cool times could never get away with that now probably this was back in the 80's and Early 90's

Oh boy, while working reach as an air ambulance pilot, I had the displeasure of responding to a scene where a gentleman riding the train head somehow inadvertently slipped. His body was cut in half,I have seen a lot of things in my life. In the army combat, and doing this job. Seeing someone’s Entrails spread about like that his vision I will never forget. As the pilot I am usually at the controls at all times but on this day when I flew into the area it was well lit and prior to landing could see everything all I can say is good luck to you sir stay safe
I'm a Conductor/Engineer for a class 1 in NC. I've personally hit a trespasser that committed suicide by train. We hit him 48 mph, not a good site. Also volunteer as a fireman and rescue. Have been to a far share of crossing accidents also. Thank you and your crew for what you do on the air medevac.
Your favorite hopper had a DOT #3077 tag. That should be Nickel Oxide. Hazardous and used in manufacturing. Retired Haz Mat Specialist here. Be Safe Bud 👍

It's basically like setting up a wifi signal that you can connect to with your other phone just like any other wifi signal. Take care man
Yep, tethering. It's listed as that under network settings. Under tethering, there's a switch for "mobile hot spot". You turn that on and that phone will create a wireless network using it's data. Then you connect the other phone to that network, just like any other wifi hotspot.

hey shoestring i was thinking about how you busted your binockaners recently and wondered if a spotting scope might pack easier. Its basically a legit monocular with the same magnifications as binocaners. But it looks like you either fixed them or are just working with the broken pair. Anyway it looks like you found a better spot for them in the bucket but maybe someday you could borrow or try a spotting scope might worknout. This Monocular would be a good replacement - says it is rainproof, light, small, and cheap. Not high quality, but you don't want expensive stuff to ride a train. that powder is called IPA, isopropyl acid, its not harmful, but mixed with water it can lightly irritate the skin. the hoppers with the green band haul that and the hoppers with the orange band haul a type of pellet that is used in eastman. As for the clinchfield we have one 2 manifest a day , one going each way. coal is 1 day unless we get lucky. the big hit is ethanol trains going to and from tampa. track maintenance is going on right now and they have raised the speed in Virginia to 40. hopefully that means more trains are coming. stay safe out there
Riding that chemical car reminded me of the one time I hoboed from Johnson City to Kingsport. I passed a lot of grade crossings with people waiting, but they never saw me. All of them were looking toward the end of the train. At that time they were looking for the caboose.
Tethering is mostly used to connect a laptop or tablet to the internet using your cell phone. If you use the bluetooth functions on both phones you should be able to move data between the two.
You ever think about getting one of those little brooms? The ones with the dustpan connected to it.to sweep out those grainer floors. They sell them at all the dollar stores.i have one in my car. just an idea bud. Safe travels my friend 🙏🙏🇺🇸🇺🇸
Gear up, take care of your gear, I always even in the hot summer, carried a winter coat. Don't get me wrong, I learned the hard way for many things... Figure a half gallon of water was enough, most of the time yes. 12 pack of bear and no water, Big mistake. Time or two I had to run up to the unit and bang on the side and ask the engineer for water. Never expect someone riding with you to be taking care of you or the other way around... Your adventures sure brings back memories.
Considering he's been doing this 31 years straight I think he knows what he's doing. I'm so glad he stopped drinking 7 years ago. He looks so much healthier and happier than the videos from 8 years ago. He said he had twov stints in nursing home for months after overloading his liver. I think he says he hasn't had a drink since. Praise the Lord.... love these videos. All of you that travel this way are true adventurers!! We all wish we could do the same 😁🇺🇸🚂
Shoestring I’m guessing those fights on the high line in the ‘90s involved FTRA dudes. I’d like to hear more about that. You’ll be laid up for ahile after your surgery but I’m sure you have plenty of material for videos while you’re recovering.
How often do people see you at like Railroad intersections do you think? Maybe you have your head popped out as you’re crossing in front of them stopped for the train. Or their home is directly next to the railroad tracks. I remember a few years back I’m sitting at a railroad crossing and there was a man in a box car. I was like I hope he’s having fun enjoying the ride.

Hi shoestring, have you ever been on a train and it's broken down in the middle of nowhere ? I should think you would have to pack more grub just in case of that happening .
Turn on your hotspot in settings on your phone with the data. On the other phone, go to your settings, WiFi, then you should see the name of your phone with the data. You will probably have to type in the password from your phone with the data but you can make it whatever you want. Hope this helps!
Wow..that close to the front this time...and in a Cadillac of a a grainer too.... Sounded fine and wasn’t as noisy as before so the phone has great filtering then. Well... except the curves there when it talks way too loud....
Hobo Shoestring has a convenient store next to the track and they swap crews there. They also overnight trains there. Leaving out around 4 to 5 am. Let me know some how if you a around. Like to buy you a cup of coffee and visit.

Same here between Corbin Ky and Cincinnati... it’s dwindled to 3-5 trains a day with a couple of those being local switchers.

Shoestring I’m guessing those fights on the high line in the ‘90s involved FTRA dudes. I’d like to hear more about that. You’ll be laid up for ahile after your surgery but I’m sure you have plenty of material for videos while you’re recovering.
How often do people see you at like Railroad intersections do you think? Maybe you have your head popped out as you’re crossing in front of them stopped for the train. Or their home is directly next to the railroad tracks. I remember a few years back I’m sitting at a railroad crossing and there was a man in a box car. I was like I hope he’s having fun enjoying the ride.

Turn on your hotspot in settings on your phone with the data. On the other phone, go to your settings, WiFi, then you should see the name of your phone with the data. You will probably have to type in the password from your phone with the data but you can make it whatever you want. Hope this helps!

Hobo Shoestring has a convenient store next to the track and they swap crews there. They also overnight trains there. Leaving out around 4 to 5 am. Let me know some how if you a around. Like to buy you a cup of coffee and visit.
