That "is he...smart or.." scene always kills me because it shows self-awareness, worry, compassion, doubt and love all at the same time. Hanks absolutely nailed the delivery and physicality of that moment.
I always wonder how Mr. Hanks got to that moment of executing that delivery. It doesn't feel like he just turned that on after hearing "action". He embodied Forrest with a display of emotion that only a human actually living that moment out can portray. It is in my opinion, one of the most moving moments in cinema.
That gets me, too. But the line that will always get me is the exchange between Jenny and Forrest when he is telling her about his adventures. Jenny: "I wish I could have been there with you." And Forrest responds "You were." Forrest had Jenny in his heart everywhere he went.
That line hit me hard when I rewatched Forrest Gump years later, fully understanding the weight of that question. Hanks deserved the Oscar from that scene alone.
The scene at the end where Forest is walking away from Jenny's grave, you can see some birds fly out of the tree... Jenny always wished to be turned into a bird so she could fly far far away. So poetic and beautiful!
Fun fact this was also just a chance thing that happened and they happened to get it on video, you can see Tom hanks actually suprised at the end when he stops to look

I was especially relieved at your assessment of Jenny. I've seen so many reactors give her a hard time, and I don't think she deserves that at all. Objectively, her treatment of Forrest is atrocious, but it never comes from a place of malice. Rather, Jenny's confused and suffering from the trauma of horrific childhood abuse; it takes her years to process that, and all without the benefit of professional help. She engages in multiple self-destructive behaviours to numb the pain, and it's quite possible that she even sees herself as unsafe for nice people to be around. In that sense, Jenny might very well be trying to protect Forrest, as you said. Looking forward to your next one!

My favorite part of the movie is when Forrest says he's in the desert and when the sun comes up he couldn't tell where heaven starts and earth began and tells Jenny she was there with him. I have been to a lot places in this world that are so beautiful. The one place has always been with me is being on the ocean heading to south America on a cargo ship and seeing all the stars and moon in the night sky it just seams to me that the stars and heaven are closer to you in the ocean than on land.
Great reaction! From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book), Forrest Gump is the story of a generation. It is the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical questions with which we wrestled. This movie is also used in some American History classes to teach the timeline of events that occurred over the course of the generation. Some events are easy to recognize and others, like the opening of China, the American bicentennial, or the running craze that started in the late 70s are more obscure. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.
I've seen so many reactors attack Jenny for how she kept treating Forrest, but you are the only one that brought up her traumatic upbringing and you knew she didn't mean to hurt Forrest at all. Loved your reaction so and I couldn't stop crying every single moment you started to. Thank you so much for your amazing channel, it really means alot to me.
But also because of her upbringing she was afraid to get close to anyone, found it difficult to maintain healthy relationships, and ran away from her problems. Jenny had a lot of demons to conquer before she could be with Forrest, and I think she was just dealing with them as best she knew how, regardless of Forrest.
I was in the Army Infantry for ten years.I got messed up after 2 brain surgeries and was put out on disability. When I watched movies like this I’d never get emotional, but when I watch people’s reactions like yours I start loosing it.I don’t know why but I do.Must have been the botched surgeries.
Many people who watch this movie end up loving it but are of the opinion that Jenny was a bad person who hurt Forrest for selfish reasons. The fact that you saw past her actions and realized that Jenny never meant to hurt Forrest and that her childhood trauma is what caused her to, is amazing. I'm proud of you for having such a mature and kind take on this movie.
I love that Lt. Dan says "If you're ever a Shrimp Boat Captain, that's the day I'm an Astronaut" because after Forrest Gump was released, Gary Sinise immediately started filming his role in Apollo 13. lol
This movie won Tom Hanks his 2nd consecutive Best Actor Oscar, one of only 2 people ever to achieve this in the Best Actor category (after Spencer Tracy) and one of 5 to achieve this in any acting category overall (Katharine Hepburn, Luise Rainer and Jason Robards being the other 3). I highly recommend his other Best Actor winning performance in PHILADELPHIA (1993) as well (Jason Robards is in this movie too).
14:35 It's a generational thing. Since nobody writes letters anymore. The name and address seen in the center to right side of the envelope is the name and address where the letter is going to. Here it clearly shows that the letters were for Jenny but we're never received by her, so it was "returned to sender", in this case, returned to Forrest.
What a wonderful, heartfelt reaction. I'm 38 yo and I never imagined the movies I grew up with being reacted on TH-cam. It brings me so much joy to experience these movies again and watching you reactors heartfelt enjoyment watching these classics for the first time. You are loved and amazing Liala
This movie really is all highs and lows. It’s an emotional rollercoaster and I really appreciate seeing a reaction where someone isn’t afraid to express every single one of those emotions.
It’s been nearly 30 years and this movie truly hits well whether it’s a first time watcher or someone who’s watched this thousands of times ❤❤ Forrest Gump is in my top 3 favorite movies of all times and it’s a movie that I do believe everyone should watch it. Lots of emotionally heartfelt and understandable scene, lots of hilarious scenes and many key life lessons in key scenes ❤One of the few movies where almost every actors are perfectly casted and the plot is absolutely near perfection. It’s awesome to see how this movie still lives on and on ❤❤
This movie came out a few years after Fried Green Tomatoes. I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it. It's another story about love and friendship in the deep south. Its so good. Another tear jerker. Steel Magnolias is also great. It has an amazing cast. Can't go wrong with Sally Fields and Dolly Parton. The 90s had some amazing movies.
I second this recommendation even though it falls under the category of being a chicken flick it's so well balanced and written it's a must see. Not many have reacted to this film
Forrest Gump is probably some of Tom Hanks best work as an actor. He truly did a phenomenal job as Forrest Gump. Definitely and emotional rollercoaster of a movie so its probably good that you have tissues ready and handy Laila.
Hi Liala! Love your reaction! OCS - Officer Candidate School Jenny didn't write back. Forrest wrote those letters and they were returned to him (marked 'return to sender').
Actual Vietnam War vets said the combat scene was one of the most realistic depictions they had seen. The American soldiers are basically shooting blind, as you never see the enemy soldiers (who are well protected by the dense jungle).
I really enjoy your reactions a lot! 👍🏻 A few points: First of, not many get, why Jenny always leaves Forrest. You exactly nailed it. She was just protecting him, bcs she saw herself as a threat to people. Second, I think this movie was the only one I ever got a life lesson from. I still try to remember myself from time to time, not to overthink everything. Makes some things a lot easier... Third point is, don't ever feel sorry, for asking things you don't know. There is a saying: "A real wise man always has more questions than answers!" 🤓 Keep yourself, you have a good heart! That's easy to see! All the best from germany! ✌🏻 Addendum: One small request, which probably means a lot of work for you, which I would really appreciate! 😅 There is another movie, a funny one, also with a strong message, that no one ever reacted to. It went under the radar, when it came out, but you can trust me, it's worth a reaction. It's call "Accepted". If you could do that, I would be very happy! At least watch it on your own sometimes. Has a great soundtrack, some cool characters in it and an important message, about doing the things... I don't wanna a spoil it! 🤷🏼♂️😉
Probably my favorite movie ever.... not sure why.. but its so good. I just can't explain the range of emotions this reaches while hitting historical and location issues. It is amazing.
The Sixth Sense... is a great recommendation, if you haven't seen it. "Forrest Junior" plays the boy in the Sixth Sense. Really enjoyed your Forrest Gump video. The Sixth Sense is pretty emotional too.
I love how this movie came out in 1994, and during NYE when Lt.Dan was saying "the day you're a shrimping boat captain, that's the day I'm an astronaut" and the next year Gary Sinese played an astronaut in Apollo 13 (also with Tom Hanks)
This was one of the best reactions to this movie I've ever seen. I could tell it hit you hard, so thanks for sharing. ❤ Tbh I think I cried more at your reaction than the movie lol Is that weird? Tom Hanks is an incredible actor and he killed this. The next time you see him in something it's probably going to freak you out a little, just to let you know. ;)
He hung out with the kid learning his cadence. They tried to make the kid adopt the speaking patterns of Hanks. Tom thought it made sense the other way around.
9:28 "What's OCS?" In case nobody answered, it's Officer Candidate School. In US military, that's where we train people to be officers. Enlisted men who show intelligence and leadership potential are sometimes sent to OCS.
The most perfect movie ever made. It has laughter, action, sadness, beauty, tragedy and in incredibly nostalgic. The music is superb, the writing is exquisite and the acting is A++...it's a movie that has literally every element ANY movie could have wrapped all into one. Forest was "dumb",...yes but he was also incredibly WIZE and pure at the exact same time. Yes,..."Forest Gump", a complete masterpiece that is perfectly well rounded and carefully balanced.
4:42 "This is going to be the main aim of the movie, just seeing Forrest run." More than you could possibly know. Unless you know. If you know, you know.
It's funny how Tom Hanks was offered Tim Robbins character in "The Shawshank Redemption" but turned it down when John Travolta declined the role in "Forrest Gump" to take the role in "Pulp Fiction", which led Tom Hanks stepping into "Forrest Gump" which led Tim Robbins stepping into "The Shawshank Redemption". Later on to make it up to Frank Darabont, the director of "The Shawshank Redemption", Tom Hanks decided to play the lead role in "The Green Mile" also directed by Frank Darabont when John Travolta turned down the lead role in "The Green Mile". "Forrest Gump", "The Shawshank Redemption", "Pulp Fiction" and "The Green Mile" are 4 of my favorite films and all are classics.
Thank you for your wonderful reaction to one of the truly great films. Your heartfelt emotion at the end of the film was so touching. I was delighted that you hadn't joined some of the many Jenny haters, that have displayed their lack of empathy for a woman who had suffered terrible physical and mental trauma at the hands of her father. Your sympathy and understanding for Jenny shows what a kind and thoughtful person you must be. ❤🙏
If you want to see a movie about OCS … watch an Officer and a Gentleman with Richard Gere and Louis Gossett Jr who won best supporting actor playing the drill instructor.
You're right. Your eyes were dribbling, your nose was glistening, and it was beautiful. I love your reactions and especially when you connect with the story and allow your emotions to pour out. Love.
judging by your reaction to this masterpiece, you're such a pure soul 🥹 this is my all-time favourite movie, I cannot help but bawl my eyes out every time I see it :')
I was trying to think one time what Forest’s secret was. I know it’s kind of a simple answer, but I think it’s just that he’s always present. That allows him to follow his heart and not get caught up in all the drama we create.
This movie is based on the life of Forrest Gump. His name is Gump, Forrest Gump. And he has a son named Forrest, he has a father named Forrest. That's all I got say about that... and a delightfully wonderful reaction video.
I'm a 65 year old man that recalls the years the movie is set in. & I cry during the movie, too. It's a rollercoaster ride of emotions but a great movie.
Another delightful reaction. I've seen dozens but this occasion got me right in the feels once again, thanks to you, sweetie. Hanks is great in anything, but the whole cast is brilliant in this memorable slice of magic realism, an intimate story interwoven with historic events.
Most reactors call Jenny the B-word. You got it right. Because of Jenny's abuse as a child she never felt worthy of anyone's love; especially Forrest's.
It's a fantastic movie, one of the all-time classics. But I always think when I see someone react to it this way, imagine if all the guys in real life with a good heart had half the appreciation and attention Gump got. :-)
I never noticed before she didn't love herself till later. She was raised with a different type of love. She didn't know what love was til he showed her .
What a beutiful reaction! It's one of my absolute favourite movies and i cry every time when Forrest meets his son or talks to Jenny on here grave. Happy shared some tears with you. I love people like you, who can dive into a movie and not be affraid to show emotions. Much Love and keep going! ❤
Jenny protected Forrest. The level of devotion and love he had for her, every time she got into a pickle she would’ve called him and he would’ve come and bailed her out and it would’ve hurt him even more. It’s strange to me that adults can’t understand this. Beautiful film though. A well deserved Oscar for Hanks who played his character so well that at no point in the film do you see Tom Hanks. Only Forrest.
In case nobody let you know, OCS is Officer Candidate School. Enlisted soldiers can have a chance to become an officer. Jenny didn't know Forrest sent the letters. She didn't live there, anymore and nobody lived in that house. That's why they were returned.
It was a movie of destinies. We all have a destiny, a path, a connection to everything. It may not always be about you, it may be about someone you care for. Sometimes we are the guide.
"If you're ever a shrimp boat captain, that's the day I'm an astronaut." One year later, they're both astronauts in "Apollo 13" (which is also a REALLY good movie) 😄
I’m walking here is from Midnight Cowboy. While filming a scene, Dustin Hoffman was crossing a New Street with a green light. A cabbie ran a red and almost hit him. Hoffman stayed in character and yelled, I’m walking here.
You definitely look like you needed a good cry when you watched that. One of my all time favorites. I always say if you're feeling sad the two best movies to watch is Forrest Gump and or Little Miss Sunshine will always feel better after. Love your reactions!!
I watch a lot of reaction videos. It's fun to watch others react to movies that I love. Always make me laugh when I'VE needed a laugh Your reactions are different and a cut above, because your reactions are genuine and you're never afraid of your feelings. Never apologize for letting a movie "get to you" like this one.
OCS stands for Officer Candidate School. Upon completion of the course, a person is made a commissioned Second Lieutenant in the US Army. Currently OCS is a 12 week course but during the Vietnam War era, it was 23 weeks. Of course, in the film, Forest does not attend OCS.
A bit late since this posted, but I just saw this now. Anyhow, as some others have pointed out, you are one of the very few who actually got Jenny. Like really, truly got her. Some have said more or less, "yeah, I get that she didn't have the best childhood, but....." They seem to miss, don't realize, or ignore the foundation of her issues. While not all abuse victims turn out like Jenny, the #1 reason why people who did turn out like Jenny turned out that way because of it. Prior to having children I'd always heard that the father is a girls first and most important relationship she'll ever have. I never knew how true that was until my daughter was born. She's just about 13 now and every day I see and experience things with my daughter, be it through conversation, interactions and even punishment, that reinforce the most simple of truths in fatherhood. My relationship with my daughter is quite literally the Beta version of every relationship she will ever have with a man.
Forrest Gump is one of my favoritesmovies ever and one of the best ever, in my opinion. Brilliant, from the begginning to the end. Just for the records, if my memory is not failing, Tom Hanks earned the Oscar for best performance in a main role for this movie. Regards.
The bench scene was shot downtown in my hometown and when she tells him Henry street is 5 or 6 blocks away that is an actual fact. It is within walking distance
As an empath feeling how the movie affected you radiated through me (the movie is emotional as is between Forrest and Jenny) and I loved watching your reaction, Tom Hanks played his part perfectly almost as if he himself lived as Forrest Gump, also I'm glad you had your "friend" there to help you through it, the pure heart can see true love.
Used to watch this and Mrs. Doubtfire every summer at my grandparents’ house when I would spend a week with them as a kid. They had the best ice cream in the coolest bowls every time. Definitely a core memory ❤️
I love that you understood Jenny. So many people villiaize her. She did hurt Forrest, but it wasn't because shr wanted to. She didn't think she deserved him.
9:33 OCS is Officer Cadet School. Basically it Training to become a Commissioned Officer.....He would start as lieutenant or a O-1 rank and it goes through 4-star General (O-9 rank). An Enlisted Rank goes from E-1 to E-9 or the rank of Private to the rank of Sargent Major.
An excellent movie and your reaction is very nice. A movie like the same real life. Because there are moments of joy and other moments of sadness. The part about the mother where she dies is very painful for me because my mother passed away 7 months ago.

Exactly
But also because of her upbringing she was afraid to get close to anyone, found it difficult to maintain healthy relationships, and ran away from her problems. Jenny had a lot of demons to conquer before she could be with Forrest, and I think she was just dealing with them as best she knew how, regardless of Forrest.
❤️❤️
True, one needs to be somewhat intelligent to get that. :-)
@@jericoba unfortunately, because it shouldn't be that hard to understand.
I was in the Army Infantry for ten years.I got messed up after 2 brain surgeries and was put out on disability. When I watched movies like this I’d never get emotional, but when I watch people’s reactions like yours I start loosing it.I don’t know why but I do.Must have been the botched surgeries.
I love that Forrest calls Bubba his "Best Good Friend"..... because you only get one "Best Friend", and that's Jenny.
Dan says "If you're ever a Shrimp Boat Captain, that's the day I'm an Astronaut" because after Forrest Gump was released, Gary Sinise immediately started filming his role in Apollo 13. lol
Well he kept his word didn't he, lol, cool how that actually worked out👍✌️
This movie won Tom Hanks his 2nd consecutive Best Actor Oscar, one of only 2 people ever to achieve this in the Best Actor category (after Spencer Tracy) and one of 5 to achieve this in any acting category overall (Katharine Hepburn, Luise Rainer and Jason Robards being the other 3). I highly recommend his other Best Actor winning performance in PHILADELPHIA (1993) as well (Jason Robards is in this movie too).
Yes, _Philadelphia_ is a good laugh.
You're right, Jenny was never being malicious. She was being self-destructive because deep down she didn't believe she deserved happiness.
"The day you're a shrimp boat Captain, I'll be an astronaut."
And just a year later they both played astronauts in Apollo 13.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed ☺️
I'm 39 and I remember going to the cinema to this movie. I cried then and have every single time I watch it. This is my No1 movie
Hi Liala! Love your reaction!
OCS - Officer Candidate School
Jenny didn't write back. Forrest wrote those letters and they were returned to him (marked 'return to sender').
Robin Wright is also in “THE PRINCESS 👸 BRIDE.” Such a great movie.
"Forrest Gump" is one of those must watch masterpieces that should be on everyone's list.
Actual Vietnam War vets said the combat scene was one of the most realistic depictions they had seen. The American soldiers are basically shooting blind, as you never see the enemy soldiers (who are well protected by the dense jungle).
I really enjoy your reactions a lot! 👍🏻
A few points: First of, not many get, why Jenny always leaves Forrest.
There is a saying: "A real wise man always has more questions than answers!" 🤓
Keep yourself, you have a good heart! That's easy to see! All the best from germany! ✌🏻
Addendum: One small request, which probably means a lot of work for you, which I would really appreciate! 🤷🏼♂️😉
YES Accepted is great!
I like to believe this movie changed the hearts of so many and only for the better. Thank you for the entertainment.
This was one of the best reactions to this movie I've ever seen. I could tell it hit you hard, so thanks for sharing. ❤ Tbh I think I cried more at your reaction than the movie lol Is that weird?
Tom Hanks is an incredible actor and he killed this. The next time you see him in something it's probably going to freak you out a little, just to let you know. ;)
Too hard, she's ready to cry watching the feather🙄
He hung out with the kid learning his cadence. They tried to make the kid adopt the speaking patterns of Hanks. Tom thought it made sense the other way around.
Which turned out to be a brilliant decision because it is instantly recognizable.
@@ronweber1402 agreed, it was a fantastic decision.
9:28 "What's OCS?"
In case nobody answered, it's Officer Candidate School.
In US military, that's where we train people to be officers.
Enlisted men who show intelligence and leadership potential are sometimes sent to OCS.
Master piece of a movie , Tom Hanks is a living legend . Finally someone who understood Jenny perfectly .
4:42 "This is going to be the main aim of the movie, just seeing Forrest run."
More than you could possibly know.
Unless you know.
If you know, you know.
I love these classic movie reactions so glad to see these
It's funny how Tom Hanks was offered Tim Robbins character in "The Shawshank Redemption" but turned it down when John Travolta declined the role in "Forrest Gump" to take the role in "Pulp Fiction", which led Tom Hanks stepping into "Forrest Gump" which led Tim Robbins stepping into "The Shawshank Redemption".
Knowing that Forrest is wearing Jenny's shoes at the beginning of the movie makes it that much more emotional
Audio was perfect & so was the Reaction 👏🤗🥰👏
Dang it! He's at it AGAIN! The invincible gnome is making us all cry by chopping his onions under our noses. 🧅😭
"OCS" is "Officer Candidate School." The Drill Sergeant is saying Forrest is such a good soldier, he'd make a good officer. It's a compliment.
If you want to see a movie about OCS … watch an Officer and a Gentleman with Richard Gere and Louis Gossett Jr who won best supporting actor playing the drill instructor.
There’s literally nobody in this world that haven’t cried at least once while watching this movie
You're right. Your eyes were dribbling, your nose was glistening, and it was beautiful. I love your reactions and especially when you connect with the story and allow your emotions to pour out. Love.
Thank you for understanding Jenny.
judging by your reaction to this masterpiece, you're such a pure soul 🥹 this is my all-time favourite movie, I cannot help but bawl my eyes out every time I see it :')
O.C.S. is Officers' Candidate School.
I live this movies. It never gets old.
Most reactors call Jenny the B-word. You got it right. Because of Jenny's abuse as a child she never felt worthy of anyone's love; especially Forrest's.
she liked badboys
@@longfootbuddyall woman are like Jenny today
It's a fantastic movie, one of the all-time classics. But I always think when I see someone react to it this way, imagine if all the guys in real life with a good heart had half the appreciation and attention Gump got. :-)
I appreciate that you are one of the handful of reviewers who realize that Jenny was trying to protect Forrest rather than hurting him.
The CGI of the presidents and historical events make this movie so much better. This along with Shawshank is top 5 in movie history.
I never noticed before she didn't love herself till later. She was raised with a different type of love. She didn't know what love was til he showed her .
One of the few reactors for this film that saw the good in Jenny and didn't feel bad towards her when she left him. Good reaction.
9:28
OCS stands for Officer Candidate School. It's training for folks who want to be in command positions in the Army.
What a beutiful reaction! It's one of my absolute favourite movies and i cry every time when Forrest meets his son or talks to Jenny on here grave. Happy shared some tears with you. I love people like you, who can dive into a movie and not be affraid to show emotions. Much Love and keep going! ❤
And to think all three big films came out that same year (Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction) and they battled it out at the oscars.
This movie never gets old, it is still just as great as the first time I saw it
4:19 "I'm glad its going to be happiness in this movie" oh my dear child just you wait!
A good lighthearted movie with Jenny in it is Robin Wright’s first movie ever called THE PRINCESS BRIDE 36:18
"If you're ever a shrimp boat captain, that's the day I'm an astronaut."
One year later, they're both astronauts in "Apollo 13" (which is also a REALLY good movie) 😄
This is the proper reaction to Forrest Gump. Happy tears. Sad tears. All the tears.
I’m walking here is from Midnight Cowboy. While filming a scene, Dustin Hoffman was crossing a New Street with a green light. A cabbie ran a red and almost hit him. Hoffman stayed in character and yelled, I’m walking here.
That's a famous football coach (Bear Bryant) who recruited Forest to play for 'Bama. His houndstooth hats were his trademark.
You definitely look like you needed a good cry when you watched that. One of my all time favorites. I always say if you're feeling sad the two best movies to watch is Forrest Gump and or Little Miss Sunshine will always feel better after. Love your reactions!!
That's actually young Forrest's voice! He actually joined the Army when he grew up!
Answer: OCS stands for "Officer Candidate School". Its how just a normal enlisted soldier can become commissioned as a officer.
Some have said more or less, "yeah, I get that she didn't have the best childhood, but....."
They seem to miss, don't realize, or ignore the foundation of her issues.
I have watched many reactions to this movie, yours is the absolute best. You had me weeping also. Loved it❤
As an empath feeling how the movie affected you radiated through me (the movie is emotional as is between Forrest and Jenny) and I loved watching your reaction, Tom Hanks played his part perfectly almost as if he himself lived as Forrest Gump, also I'm glad you had your "friend" there to help you through it, the pure heart can see true love.
Used to watch this and Mrs. Doubtfire every summer at my grandparents’ house when I would spend a week with them as a kid. They had the best ice cream in the coolest bowls every time. Definitely a core memory ❤️
OCS is Officer Candidate School. It is one of the ways a soldier becomes an officer, as opposed to an enlisted soldier.
the 90s were the high water mark of intelligent mainstram movies with the 80s and 00s coming in tied for a strong second.
I love that you understood Jenny. So many people villiaize her. She did hurt Forrest, but it wasn't because shr wanted to. She didn't think she deserved him.
Might be the best movie ever made. Classic.
what a great emotional reaction. I think I cried a little more at your reaction than when I first saw the film itself...
I think i already saw the "i wanna go home" scene 10 times, and it gets me every time, cause it probably heppened in real life many times....
An excellent movie and your reaction is very nice. A movie like the same real life. Because there are moments of joy and other moments of sadness. The part about the mother where she dies is very painful for me because my mother passed away 7 months ago.
