One thing you need to keep in mind is that we still used dial-up when this movie came out. Although not needed as far as I can see, it has a fundamental influence on this movie.
I watched this movie at the premiere while visiting my father in KL, Malaysia. And after watching it in the movie saloon they had CDR:s of the movie on sale outside the saloon, bought a copy and took it back home to Sweden to show it to my friends, movie still hadn't premiered in Sweden at the time.
Saw this movie at our University theatre without knowing a thing. After the movie my girlfriend asked me to hold her as she ran sideways along a wall. Great reaction Liala.
I watched them film it in Sydney. I worked in a skyscraper and watched them flying around in a helicopter with two people hanging from it for about a week. I also worked in the building where Neo's office was, in a very similar cubicle a couple of years earlier. Not only that, I used to go to the nightclub where Neo first meets Trinity. I was called Black Market, a seedy awesome dance venue for pill poppers. Good times!
i've yet to watch a reactor who mentions the remarkable special effects and unique production design of this wonderful film. even both sequels are top notch visual extravaganzas. thanks for the video.

IMO, the second and third matrix are 100% worth watching. They have great action and, most importantly, keep the story going. They are not as good as the first movie, but still great.
My friends ran a game store and Keanu walked in to buy a custom wooden chess set. The wife of the store had no idea because she didn't watch action movies but said he was really, really a very sweet man.
Keanu has done countless things for everyday people. Giving up his seat on the subway, staying away from popular dives/people, starting a motorcycle company with a friend. He even stole a paparazzis camera and ran away with it one time, forcing the paparazzi to chase him to try to get it back.
the oracle said neo isnt the one.. maybe hes waiting for something... the something he was waiting for was his death.. when agent smith shot him a bunch he actaully died.. then resurrected as the one(neo is an anagram for "one") fire aint it?? great reaction
@servantprince she definitely insinuated it... he said "I'm not the one" she said " sorry kid"... like she was agreeing with him... why do people like you do this type of nonsense.. like the Grammer police... looking thru the comments hoping to correct someone.. smh
I didn’t see this in the theatre, but I did watch it with a bunch of people at college a year or two later, and it melted our faces. I feel like it was our generation’s Star Wars. Amazingly, the Matrix is now older than the first Star Wars (1977) was at the time the Matrix came out.
If you "listen" to what the oracle says. "You have the gift kid, it looks like you are waiting for something." "Maybe the next life" Neo dies and comes back to life before he became the one. The Oracle told him exactly what he needed to hear.
There are some super badass scenes in the next two Matrix movies. Lots of action, lots of entertainment. No spoilers, but worth watching! About the Matrix itself - it is a unique concept that was well written and well made. It was a mind-blowing experience when it came out!
ohhhh, haha i like where your mind went with the "are those all like, 'the one' and they're just failed experiments" that would've been a *very* different movie
Its hard to convey how thrill and chill inducing Trinity's opening scene was. Nobody had ever badassed quite like that before. The matrix changed how films are made, in so many ways, and effects and tropes that are commonplace today were mindboggling when it came out.
In mathematics a matrix is a table of tables, not the one you eat off of, but a table of numbers or data, a three-dimensional table. Or, in programming terms, an array of arrays. An array where each element is the address of another array.
The dialogue in this film requires close attention. When Switch calls Neo Coppertop when the first meet, or when Morpheus says agents can "move in and out of any software still hardwired to their system" he means people, just as Smith does when he say "entire crops" were lost. There are so many tidbits that can be easily missed.
Something about the Agents that’s stood out to me for the past 25 years. When I played the original Unreal Tournament, bots on high settings had perfect aim, but weren’t too hard to hit. Agents are the opposite, with crap aim but perfect dodging.
Try to keep an eye at your local cinemas if they ever rerelease this movie. they recently rereleased it back in the US hopefully someday you can watch this movie on the big screen like we all got to.
32:31 "There _must_ be a second movie of this." And a third. And a direct-to-DVD animated special called _The Animatrix._ But, honestly, I don't think they contribute a whole lot. Personally, I think this movie was intended as a standalone. I mean, if you can believe it, the special effects in _Reloaded_ and _Revolutions_ were _orders of magnitude_ better, but they didn't really help the story. I think it would've been better to end the franchise with _this_ movie, with the exciting world of _limitless possibilities_ brought by the Neo-equipped resistance here that was _already_ posing _serious_ problems for the machines before recruiting this mother-of-all-super-soldiers.
@@Tman001100 She kept it out so we can pay for it. No thanks. I prefer Reactionists that don't do this as a business, but for sharing. It's more natural that way.
I'll explain to you the meaning of the resurrection scene at the end: it shows that love is something that you are absolutely convinced of. Nothing can raise doubts about it, not even the death of the loved one. You just know it. It's not a quantitative question. You are not 78, 87 or 99.999999% in love, nor 100%, because that would mean that you could also be 53.92% in love. It's like a switch: on or off or, if someone really wants numbers, 1 or 0. Love is a binary thing. 1 or 0.
'The Matrix' was made into a trilogy w/ Pt. 2 ('Matrix: Reloaded') and Pt. 3 ('Matrix: Revolutions')... A 4th movie 'Matrix: Resurrections' was made recently without Lawrence Fishburne ('Morpheus') and Hugo Weaving ('Agent Smith') and it flopped... I recommend the trilogy. The premise of 'Matrix' was that 'Neo' (whose name spells O-N-E) was originally born within the Matrix and had the power to change it as he pleased, was the one who freed a number of humans from bondage and led them to the underground city they called 'Zion'. After he died, the 'Oracle' within the Matrix prophesied his return... Morpheus was one of a few dedicated to finding Neo... Now, Agent Smith revealed that the Matrix was once built to be a perfect world, but human minds did not accept the program and thousands died as a result... So, the Matrix was re-designed to be more accommodating to reality of how the A.I. remembered the world of 1999. The question also remains: How many times was the Matrix re-designed? Going into the 2nd movie, the A.I. machines are not just 'agents' within the Matrix or 'squiddies' in the real world... There are numerous forms of A.I. within the Matrix that were assigned to maintain and function within that system ... They live and work within the Matrix and are subject to changes or being replaced over time... That should make thing a bit less complicated to finish the trilogy. And there are more revelations about Neo and the Oracle...
There was another movie that came out around the same time as this movie called Existenz with Jude Law that was similarly themed but since this movie had a bigger budget and more well known stars it got much more attention. definitely worth checking out that movie too though
i hope this film sparked something in your mind about the reality of our world?? i know it sparked something im my brain the first time i watched it and it was the start of my awakening to reality.
Lmao the first few seconds I did think she was gonna say sh*t too 😂😂 I agree with u on AI getting big nowadays 😳 enjoyed ur reactions to this OG movie 😍
It Wasn't, love's kiss. In Medieval Times, when they cut people's heads off, they would ask the head questions, and the head would answer by blinking their eyes. And yeah I know how that sounds. But it was discovered that the head would actually live separate from the body for as much as 2 minutes. Therefore, it is entirely possible that Neo heard Trinity talking to him, after he was shot dead. And that her kiss, simply reminded him of who, and Where he was.
@Tman001100 Or Slapped him. Because again, it wasn't the kiss that brought Neo back. It was the realization that his real body, was in a safe place, in the real world.
Liala! I've been missing your reactions... TH-cam hasn't been promoting you that well. I think this showed up because I watched another Matrix reaction last week. Glad you're back in the feed, will catch up on your posts. I hope you do the Animatrix, Reloaded and Revolution. Don't bother with Resurrection
that disc could only hold 1.44MB, by todays standards an unfathomably small amount of storage, it could hold a small program, or about 15-20 pictures. or about 144,000 words of text.. and he paid $2000 dollars for it... likely that would make it a specialized hacker tool or blackmail information, they never really go into it.
13:13 This character, Tank, admittedly, is a _supporting_ character, but as far as supporting characters go, I liked him. The actor who played him, though, conducted himself in an _especially_ unintelligent manner, during contract negotiations for the sequels. His name's Marcus Chong. The Wachowskis offered him $250,000 to continue his character in both sequels, but he declined it, arguing that he was owed _twice_ that, in addition to bonuses and guarantees he would be invited to press junkets and premieres. That much would've been enough to end his contract, but it went beyond that. When he also started making threatening phone calls, he was arrested for it and blackballed from Hollywood. Tank is a genius, but Chong was an idiot.
Please, if you read this comment, please watch the “Animatrix” before watching matrix reloaded and matrix revolutions. . . It is an excellent, nine short film animation. It gives some prequels and follow-ups, leading towards reloaded and revolutions.
True, "numeric" wouldn't have been a malaprop for digital or any other of the terms mentioned later... Also i liked that when she wanted to describe what just happened she went with yet *_another_* math-inspired term: 0:15 "suddenly i'm on a TANGENT" xD
I forget, why was there a blue pill, anyway. To make you sleep and forget all that, to offer a choice? The red one was not enough to show that you could experience true reality, not the Matrix version, Alice in W. reference? Actually, the water everywhere on the night that Neo traversed these two dimensions was interesting too, especially the drinking and travelling via it later. The sages in the world lore claim that we travel in our mind, 'time-travel' style and pass through watery portals to reach our wanted destination. They are our canals of whirling passages we must move in to get to the other side. And that drinking the pure well-water of the Earth, and bathing in it is essential for cleaning chemicals. The Earth cleans the water by filtering it through layers, like plants and animals can rid toxins naturally passing through their systems. Air-borne toxins are washed away by using pure water, too.
Check out some of these other INTP inspired character movies. 1997 Good Will Hunting, 2009 & 2011 Sherlock Holmes- Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law Wattson ( INFJ ). 2010-2017 Sherlock with Benedict Cumberbatch, and Martin Freeman, 2014 The Immitation Game with Benedict Cumberbatch. You already did the reaction to Lord of the Rings/ Gandolf is also an INTP.
The Matrix is one of those rare perfect films, in my opinion. Not a single frame is wasted in The Matrix, that's how good that film is.
Yeah, well if it wasn't for that Grand Canyon sized gapping plot hole of the "matrix" simulation being unnecessary while we are being farmed for energy. We would just be put in a comatose vegetative state with no higher brain functions and thus a "simulation' for us to live in would be useless and not worth all the trouble of creating in the first place.

Not according to Quentin Tarantino. He famously claimed that the Matrix should have ended right here.

Thanks for taking me back to my childhood you should most definitely do reaction videos to second and third Matrix movies.
The Software is Green and the Hardware is Blue.
Fun Fact: Johnny Depp and Will Smith were considered to be cast as The ONE aka Neo, before Keanu Reeves.
i hope this film sparked something in your mind about the reality of our world?? i know it sparked something im my brain the first time i watched it and it was the start of my awakening to reality.
Jet Li is also "The One" :)
Yep. It was being touched that shot his conscience back into his body. His brain basically went, "Oh shit, my body is still here."
Yeah, Morpheus could've been the one to kiss him and maybe would've had same effect lol.
@Tman001100 Or Slapped him. Because again, it wasn't the kiss that brought Neo back. It was the realization that his real body, was in a safe place, in the real world.
They were shifting bethween black and mirrored sun glasses with Morpheus , because mirrored was showing camera crew
I love your accent... I love it when you say "Come on Baby" xo xo 🥰
The guys in the glasses giving you terminator vibes, makes absolute sense!
They both have the same mother:
AI! 😉
Have a good one! ✌🏻
I love it when you say, 'Piss Off!'
If you can manage it, you should watch Othello with Sir Laurence there and Kenneth Branagh. It's such excellent acting.
Matrix is numeric in the sense that it’s a tool for linear algebra.
Oh dear....I haven't watched the reaction yet, but I know how much it is going to blow your mind. More at the end.
that disc could only hold 1.44MB, by todays standards an unfathomably small amount of storage, it could hold a small program, or about 15-20 pictures. or about 144,000 words of text.. and he paid $2000 dollars for it... likely that would make it a specialized hacker tool or blackmail information, they never really go into it.
Saw this with some friends back in high school, people were talking about it for days.
Same and when DVDs and Blu-Ray became more common, it was THE movie to have on it.
There are several movies in the series of matrix movies
If you loved that try "The Account" with Ben alfeck that is a brain twister too. btw great reaction video as always
The Matrix has you...
Everyone starts from scratch, don't give up, I hope that one day you will become one.
The film that launched Keanu Reeves career, 'River's Edge' 1986, would be a good reaction.
Keanu Reeves was on a roll in the 90s, though, Point Break, Speed and perhaps his best role in The Matrix 🥰
Fun reaction. Keep going, all are perfection
The Oracle never told Neo that he wasn’t the one.
what is the first thing she says to him when he enters ?
@@servantprince I know you're Neo. Be right with you.
Glad you enjoyed it, I enjoyed you enjoying it :)
This film is why I bought a DVD player. ;)
One of my favorite all time movies.
This is an iconic movie. An all time classic piece of science fiction. The sequels, not so much.
Late 90's early 2000's women in tight leather outfit kicking ass was the thing: Trinity from Matrix franchise, Selena from Underworld franchise....
Please, if you read this comment, please watch the “Animatrix” before watching matrix reloaded and matrix revolutions. . . It is an excellent, nine short film animation. It gives some prequels and follow-ups, leading towards reloaded and revolutions.
On to the sequels!
Looking forward to the rest. Cheers.
"Why does my brain even think of these things?"
Your malapropisms are very cute Liala
Is that a malapropism? The brain does think.
What malapropism did she use in that instance?
4:49 It's the same subgenre, cyberpunk.
This is gonna be a fun ride :D
It blew Liala's mind
11:07 "I wonder if he's gonna fall in _love_ with her."
Liala, that bit of foresight was _remarkable._ What tipped you off?
The next video is The Matrix Reloaded, then there's The Matrix Revolutions in that order.
Will Smith turned down being Neo to do a bomb called Wild Wild West and Val Kilmer was originally gonna be Morphius
I could see Val Kilmer playing a good Morpheus but Laurence Fishburne nailed it. 🥰
