I remember those days... and am glad I now don't have to carry the sheer number of devices and chargers with me that I would have had to 15 years ago!

One time I traveled from the US to Germany for a summer music program, and while I brought my computer, I didn't take it out of the bag for the whole two weeks I was there - my phone was fine to do everything I needed

The good old days of picking and choosing what was important for that trip so you didn't bring too many things!

I need a good justification to buy any device other then generic rectangles. I have a dedicated emulator because I like the tactile feel when gaming, for example. In the past we had to buy a whole camera to take mediocre photos, now we can make good photos with a cellphone. It only make sense to have a dedicated camera with you are a pro or an advanced hobbyist. And that's great!

I was very hesitant to get a tablet. My friend have it and while travelling it's quite nice thing, watching movies and doing stuff on bigger screen. I had very cheap tab for some time but then i didn't. And then 2020 hit. No travel and i came back to not really needing it. I was looking at e-ink devices, but most of them was either too dumb or too expensive. Recently i bought Bigme Inknote color+. And it's really like a tablet, but it's better on my eyes. I am software developer so i stare at backlit screens all day and having eink was quite nice. I won't bring it with me abroad, but i might consider it for short trips. And it allows me to write on it like on paper, so it really brings something new that none of my other devices could do.
In conclusion, yes, phone is all you need to spend vacation somewhere.

I have no problem carrying several devices at once. I still carry my iPod, Kobo e-reader, a gaming handheld (miyoo mini) along with my cel phone. I prefer a device that's great at what it does, than one that half-asses everything. A phone screen is bright to read, streaming music is a hassle unless you pay for a service, when you have a perfectly curated music collection, and gaming on cell phones is a battery hog.
With that said, these devices like the pin and rabbit are just useless in their current forms. They create problems, not solve them. They're inconvenient at best, a step backwards at worst

I wouldn't really call AIM "social media back in the day". I think people are getting confused on what social media is defined in today's terms vs AIM being an online communication tool and chatroom to talk to online people. But it doesn't matter. I like the convergence of devices rather than having to have multiple devices to do different things.
