Hello everyone, I wanted to do something in January to help other creators. I only found some creators through word of mouth so for all month long I am starting #RetroJanuary where every day I will share a creator I like (some big, some small) on social media. I would like to invite you to do the same. You do not need to post every day; I just ask that you 1) use the #RetroJanuary hashtag 2) sa...

Enjoyed it. Also remember being super bummed seeing what G4 turned into.
Yea G4 really screwed everything up
I grew-up watching zdtv/techtv. There was a local station in the Philippines which carried those shows. It triggered the path to technology due to those guys, I learned a lot. Was instrumental why I'm in cybersecurity today.
What was the song you were playing in the video?
The song is called “Moscow Nights” this piano version was used as the interview signal for Radio Mayak.
OUCH! OUCH! AAHHHHGGGGHH! RIGHT IN THE FEEELS!
I got in on silicon spin once. They were talking about open source and I asked something about rebranding a linux distribution and calling it your own. I was not able to find it in any of the archives though.
I wish more of Silicon Spin was archived.
Awesome video! Is that Fix it Felix game on an actual Commodore 64? If so, can you tell me how or where? I’ve been trying to find homebrew physical copies of that game
It is! I am running it on my pi1541, but you can always transfer it to real media. brokenbytes.itch.io/fix-it-felix-jr
@ Oh that’s awesome! I really appreciate it man👍
There was also the kerosene lamp powered radio.
This is very similar to the 70.7volt distributed audio system developed in the 1930s by the Jukebox Industry. A way to install multiple loudspeakers of minimal wattage in an equal impedance balanced string.
What?
I loved those Shows watched them all the time
I'm too old to have been inspired or validated by tech TV but l loved watching the show back in the day. thanks for the walk down memory lane
I'm enjoying this so far. Thanks for this. Speaking as a producer on GameSpot TV-then later-Extended Play, this really takes me back.
When I was working as a Master Control operator and other jobs at our local TV stations I always dreamed of working for Tech TV…
@@RetroTechorDie That's a great dream. The studio staff were great to work with. I benefitted from being one of the many San Francisco State University BECA students who benefitted from geography and the network's internship program with the university. I was REALLY lucky to make inroads with GameSpot TV's production staff since I started as an intern one the studio floor. I was NOT a fit for the studio dept.. To this day, I cannot wrap studio cable properly. I clicked well enough with GameSpot TV as an intern that I had a PA position waiting for me the Monday after graduation.
I would rather be on the production side any day 😂
You think your commodore 64 is really neato. What kinda chip you got in there, a dorito?
TWiT Podcast Network was established by Leo Laporte. It's still going to this day. mind you with much smaller than it used to be. He used to have tons of co-hosts but had to lay them off. as for Patrick Norton he seems to have completely jumped off the face of the Earth. I love tech TV back in the day was a huge fan of the screensavers show
Pretty RtoDAd to randomly yell like that.
I mostly use a desktop computer but the times I need a laptop it being thinner is of no benefit to me. The stuff I would be running on a laptop can honestly run on a potato but I still like the idea of upgradeability even if its just for the sake of being able to replace parts that fail. My current laptop is an ideapad I got off of CL for 25 dollars that unfortunately had a capacitor blow it brains out causing the thing to short circuit. I did replace that cap and it even took a charge but the motherboard wont boot hoping to find I missed something since i had the thing completely disassembled
The background music is way too loud. It's very hard to understand what you are saying.
Jeez, that song is something else!
Hopefully it will pop in your mind next time you do something unsafe 😂
Nice one!
I can smell the burnt RIFA through the screen.
LOL Mike
Ha Ha Mike LOL
Can we do a mac vs pc add in thos format? 😂
like this? th-cam.com/video/fbX2XrctIGk/w-d-xo.html
Lol
PC Chips was kinda like Who's Line Is It Anyways?: The motherboard where everything's made up and the SRAMS are of no account... 🤣 (Except that no one was laughing when they discovered the cache was fake.)
I like the format! Your delivery and editing are great!
💥🔥💨
Love it!
The pal/nstc converter probably just converts the color signal by inverting the phase of each alternating line, so the typical black & white signal that the TV shows turns into a color one, but it's very unlikely that it changes the amount of lines or frequency, that's way harder to do.
I grew up in the Harrisburg area, and I remember Mr. Yuck in the 80s. I assumed this was a nationwide program, but my wife who moved around a lot as a kid (but never the PA area) had never heard of it.
I remember this guy! Mostly how I stopped seeing him after I turned like, eight.
Early 90`'s in Oregon I remember Mr Yuck on items at my daycare it was ran out of private residence
We had 'em in Minneapolis in the 1980s '90s.
I had a cabinet back in the day that had both good and bad computer component... The bad ones I put Mr. Yuck stickers on the box. Saved the day, I'm sure. PNW area.
That's great!
woah! havent seen these in decades!
I still remember the jingle. 1-800-222-122, 1-800-222-122! If you think you've been poisoned, you dunno what to do... 1-800-222-122!
You mean that wasnt a Sid & Marty Krofft show?
I was b.1969, grew up in Wisconsin. The Mr. Yuck commercials on tv I remember well... kind of psychedelic and scary. Mom got stickers and had us kids join in putting stickers on stuff.
I remember the phrase “yuckit bucket” having something to do with those. They talked about it and gave stickers out in kindergarten in the mid to late 70’s where I live in Ohio.
I remember those and I'm from Northern Indiana
We had mr yuck in Minneapolis for sure.
I’m from Oregon, and born in the early '90s. I remember Mr. Yuk from when I was 3 years old. It’s funny because my family didn’t use the stickers to mark what was poisonous. In fact, I didn't know that was his purpose until watching your video. I just thought it was equivalent to a free pen or something from poison control. My mom and grandma would just get the free stickers and give them to me because I loved Mr. Yuk. I even have a Mr. Yuk iron on patch on side bag. It's been my discord profile picture for years. But apparently I'm shat Mr. Yuk fan since I didn't even know how to use him right. Thanks for the video and the free stickers
Unless you knew the background I can see confusion. Lol I used some stickers with my Legos.
no way i am from oregon born in 97 and i remember seeing these on stuff in the house
When the floppy discs failed, I learned a typewriter.
I hwas TERRIFIED of going to the doctor as kid because I thought I may end up on the very scary ambulance like in the Mr. Yuck video...... Almost traumatizing.
Holy sh*t!!! The video for this they showed in the 80's scared me to death as a 6 year old! I somehow thought one way or another I'd end up on that very scary ambulence! Seriously! But those stickers were garbage and fell off. And I remember asking for more of them. An overall horrible failure on education of these products with most emphasis on "You could suddenly end up in this ambulence with a bunch of tubes coming out of you. " Bad memories of this, and was just a basic announcement.
I feel like as a kid I was told I would get poisoned and offered drugs more than what actually happened.
I was born in '87 in the Pittsburgh area and distinctly remember my household using these stickers. I never realized before now just how unique my experience may have been.
88 here! But real talk I think we had the best childhood in Western Pennsylvania
Huh. I live in MA.- born mid-70s- we had Mr. Yuck. We thought it was funny. Like the 'Life Call' commercial. Ah, the good ol' days...
I remember the Mr Yuck commercials in SW South Dakota
I want this. Cost a fortune at Alibaba but I miss when TVs were like this. Too bad analog is obsolete now. Can you hook a DVD player on it?
It will do RF or Composite in!
I still remember that song.
