    Currentzis' version 180 bpm. Bernstein's 164 bpm. Karajan's is at "boring" bpm.. Feel free to choose "your" best one depending on the situation. Tempo is relative and objective. If someone was used to listen to music played above 200bpm this version would be "too slow" for him/her. There are no rules in adaptation and experimentation. Bravo to the conductor the wonderful musicians and the sound engineers.

    The dynamics were Great! A feat! It was very hard to keep this very fast rythm between the voices, the high Presto, around 170, so they lost the tempo a little. To me, my mind and my soul to feel the energy of apocalypse experimented and felt the tempo is better when is a little Presto between 144-150.This little Presto is like little by little scratching the clouds to go to the sky.

    It is interesting to see: In the past everything tended to be romanticized, playing everything with a beautiful sound and rather slow. When great names (thet had influence) like Harnoncourt started to explore historic informed performance a completly new ideal of sound was created, in my opinion fitting better to the character intended by the composer. Now we arrived at a different situation: While the historical informed sound is kept, Mr. Currentzis chooses himself the freedom to completly change the dynamic and part of the articulation intended in Mozarts score (in my opinion this is not (!) a problem of tempo). He is doing something completly different while pretending to be historically correct - kind of a weird situation and in my opinion unsatisfying.

    • @samuelhollister
      @samuelhollister 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      A valid thought! My perspective is that he must not claim this as entirely historical in some regards, because it indeed is not, and secondly, that it needn't be historically informed in all regards to be a meaningful addition to a pantheon of great Requiem interpretations. I personally love this take on the Requiem-not in spite of the occasional deviation from historical norms, but actually because of them. The inventiveness shines a new light on structures within the music that are meaningful to discover more deeply in this way. All in perspective with the understanding that composer's purest intent, or custom, is a separate ideal to pursue for other, very valid reasons.

    • @Yves_Ka
      @Yves_Ka 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For someone to "pretend" to be historically correct they have to "claim" to be historically correct. Has Currentzis ever done this? I think it has more to do with creating an effect that would today be similar to what an audience may have heard or experienced then. He is not so far off from Renee Jakobs and Concert Köln. The amazing thing about a genius like Mozart is that his music just as amazing with Karajan as it is with Currentzis.

    • @rossini9mozart10
      @rossini9mozart10 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You wrong, Allegro from Mozart's period is a little bit slower, and same for all the fast tempi
      And the slow tempi of that period was a little bit fastest than today, Mozart's Andante is more animated than an Tchaikovsky's Andante, so be careful with that subject.
      Currentzis have made his choices when he decide to take this tempo for the Dies Irae, I think it's ok, every (honest and passionate) artist can give their personal version of the Requiem.

    Whether THESE dynamics nor THIS tempo is given in the score. Sorry, but fully failed.

      That’s amazing man, but every conductor has their different interpretation of a piece,and you don’t necessarily need to agree with it.Mad props to you for conducting it though!

      Music is interpreted in many ways from different point of views. The real question is ¿Did you enjoy the piece as a listener?

    One of the worst version that I`ve heard. Out of tempo, the dinamics all bad. Please don't try to modify the original score,

      Can you do it better your majesty? This is one of the best rendition of the requiem ( I have about 15 recordings of this piece) ...so please go and make yourself some tacos or whatever instead of commenting nonsense...

      Do you have a 15 different recording for this masterpiece?, and you don't recognize the good vs. bad versions?, well, do you need some tacos in order you brai start to work, beacuse now is out.

      You see, little men are often insecure and intimidated from/by art, music, literature that propel forward- toward something new...
      End of discussion.
