This young man Teodor turns everything he tackles into gold.
He's 50 years old)
Verdi is not exactly "everything"
Only conductor of our time ! Immense talent !
Agree! The only dream is to listen the live concert. I wish this year it would be possible.
Andrés Orozco estrada ?
Mr. Currentzis really captured the intensity and the spirit of the Dies Irae.. Absolutely beautiful..
The drums are so prominent, the horns a bit metallic sharper and it all feels as if sped up. Like really, really ANGRY.
In some performances, where the orchestra and the timpani are slighly syncopated (and where the singers pronounce "Dies Irae" a little differently) the opening comes across like a cowboy song, calling at their horses and with whips cracking: "HEY! - HEY! - .. 'HE!" - HE'! / -- HEY-HEY-HEY- he-he-HEEEE-EEE-EEEEYYY /YA!! /HE-HE-HE-HEY!-HEY!" etc, a real yippie-aye groove - and itr returns several times through the long doomsday hymn.
It's a remarkable theatrical effect, especially in a 19th century musical setting. I wonder if Verdi ever realized how close he got to this "cowboy sound" (which I can't help hearing right away), it's a vein of music he could never have heard in person at the time - but it fits perfectly here if we imagine the souls of the damned being herded around by triumphant devils with floggers in their hands... :)
listen to the recording of the greatest conductors - this is nothing to either Toscanini or Solti.
Why is this literally perfect
the best Teodor Currentzis
The conductor is having the time of his life

Whoo! Electrifying performance! The beginning gave me goosebumps!
This is so intense with tambr of expression as is expected of excellence in classical music. It truly delivers!

Mr. Currentzis is Greek, I'm very proud!
WOW..who fires at 0:28?! ...Bass Trombone or Cimbasso 😅
This is my second TH-cam experience with Currentzis conducting "Dies irae" (with different orchestra and chorus) and again it is incredible how he manages to extract the most extreme colours from singers and instruments and to reach such tremendous, almost expressionistic effect from the score, which one hears so often performed in a dry and academic way, not to mention the rhythmic strength... Looking forward to see and hear him live in Berlin with the complete work! One aspect more - Currentzis conducts old and new music as well and this seems to be especially fertile for his interpretations of the old masters. I am not a fan of comparissons with great conductors from the past, and I wish to us all to have more rich and controversal figures in today music life as Currentzis, and not so many well-styled, stupid & boring young guys and girls doing only standard stuff and staying at the conductor's desk only to be seen from the masses and "to express themselves", as many of them say...
Wow!!! Awesome....my tears of amazement were flowing. Thank you
Bravo 👏 👏 👏

what an earth is that instrument??? at 0:14 next to the timpani.
It's a really big bass drum.
@@OsGamersdoBrasil I mean the left that strange looking trombone(?)
Ah! That seem to me to be a tenor horn
@@rachmaninoffsergeibasilyeb7315 Just a correction: that's not a tenor trombone but yes an Ophicleide
.
@@rachmaninoffsergeibasilyeb7315 Lol, I got it wrong again: it is actually a Cimbasso
2020's main theme
First of all, why is the performance cut at a random moment ???? and honestly, the tempo isn't a pblm for me in majority, but he never take time, I feel it when there's the pinao part with the trumpets and trombone, there's a need to ♩ = 176 it feels like an obligation, a good news is that he became more respectful of Verdi's score than his interpretation of Mozart's dies irae.
Srsly, that camera is a bit too ankward when there are big plans of Currentzis
I must admit to being baffled as to how laudatory the commentators here are to the work of Teodor C., since the critic whose opinion i trust the most absolutely loathes him...
Why not to the end?
Can somebody PLEASE tell me where I can find the full concert. The video in the description link has been taken down.
I'm very much looking forward to watch Teodor Currentzis in the Digital Concert Hall, directing the Verdi Requiem with the Berliner Philharmonic at the end of this month.

1:02-1:05, the conductor looks like he’s crying
Not bad . I would prefer to listen Mozart's requiem . Verdi's Requiem is very similar to the works of Beethoven and Mozart . The beginning of this section was very similar to : The Ruins of Athens (Die Ruinen von Athen), Opus 113, specially movement 4 : (Dervish Chorus: Du hast in deines Ärmels Falten(Allegro, ma non troppo - E minor) .
there is Mozart's requiem here on TH-cam even in two versions. One is a studio record of th-cam.com/video/Hsxsi9B17As/w-d-xo.html and few fragments from Salzburg Festival th-cam.com/video/_jy00qL3HWw/w-d-xo.html. Please enjoy
@@grey5647 👍 Thank you so much 🎶 I enjoyed alot 🎶
This is the music that make me cry, I guess I’m a villain
Why does the orchestra sound more than the Choir? So sad
😂
Netflix...
I very much enjoy listening to Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker, but watching those concerts is like watching the living dead. Simon Rattle brought out the best in the Berliners. Now I am really looking forward to Currentzis and the Berliner Philharmoniker performing Messa da Requiem on Saturday.
Fantastic orchestra. Weal chorus.
Exorcism.
That just shows you how different our tastes are. I find this performance absolutely beautiful. The energy of the conductor, the orchestra and the choir is really special in my eyes/ears. I just wish I could find the full concert recording.

not as good as usual
