My old machine died and I bought this machine because I did not want anything digital. I finished the quilted bag I was struggling to make with my old machine before it broke and I can already say I love it. No on/off button that gets stuck and eventually doesn't work. Tension is easily set and adjusted. This machine took me back to the mechanical machines I learned to sew with as a kid in the 70's. I was sewing with it in minutes because it is so simple to use. Most stitches available on my old machine were rarely (if ever) used. This machine has every stitch I need and everything about the machine is thoughtfully designed. I always wanted a Janome machine. So glad I finally have one!
Just purchased mine from HSN as a today's special for National Sewing Month. Can't wait to get it home so she can get acquainted with my other sewing babies! Have fun sewing!
I have had mine for a few months now and I can't get enough of it! I have made tons of masks for my family and friends and the machine has kept up with the masses!

I don’t do clothes....just crafts. I might venture on to dresses/shirts later. I have made sewing machine pads to set my machine on but I haven’t used all the different stitches yet. Ive just had it a few months so I’m stilling learning.
I have essentially the same machine (MyExcel 18W), just bought this week. I'm having problems when I'm backstitching towards the end of my sewing - the fabric bunches up. It doesn't have this problem when I backstitch at the start. What could the reason be true to? At first I thought it could be a user problem but I found out two other users with the same model is experiencing the same thing.
Sorry you are experiencing that. I know it may be annoying but perhaps you can hold the fabric more taut when back stitching or check the stitch setting? Perhaps its too small? Those are the only things I can think of. I'll play around with mine and give more feedback if I notice anything like that.
That’s an adjustment issue. Buy locally, you get the store and machine tech with purchase. They’ll answer questions and fix problems. Bikes need adjusting about a month in, appears contemporary machines do too.
Nice machine. I'm considering this as well. I saw another review somewhere that stated that the only plastic parts on the outside were the lid on top, the front door on the left end and the compartment on the bottom that makes it a free arm machine. The rest on the outside was painted aluminum. Can you verify that? Good review and great explanation of everything! Thank you!
More or less the whole front of the machine is plastic. However, the back of the machine including the section where the needle plate is appear to be metal. Thanks for the feedback.
The needle threader isn’t really for people with perfect vision, so if you can see well enough to thread it manually, do that. There is no “auto cutter”. It’s simply a “thread cutter”. Read through the manual that comes with it (in three different languages), it explains just about everything, including how to use the needle threader efficiently.

The inside of this machine is metal. It’s very heavy and doesn’t wobble or move about when you are sewing.

I found that it was just easier to thread it manually but I think if I practice more then eventually it will become 2nd nature!
