    Hi Derek is there still a purpose for Susy as a layout tool now that flexbox exists? I like how you created the custom layout at 21:00 - can this be done with Stylus CSS? I like the syntax of that more.

    Seriously, how are you so great? Just... how? And on top of that you are far humbled. Thank you for doing this and continuing to change the outlook on valuable education. Such an amazing guy.

      Gjvon G Thank you for the very nice compliments :) Anyone can do what I do. I just got lucky to meet so many nice people that push me to keep making videos.

    You mentioned in your earlier tutorial of Ruby that you would possibly make a tutorial where you actually create users and login and such. DId you ever do that? Do you have a video somwhere or a tutorial series where you create a website with users database and login from scratch? I know you "kind of" did in one of the rails tutorials, but I mean where a user has explicit access to some things such as their profile page.

      +Victor Gustafsson I'd be really interested in this if you have no such tutorial :)

    Is there a advantage to using this as opposed to using something like Bootstrap or Foundation?

    Hei! I need help. Until now i have used only SASS with Compass. When i created a new project all the files were where they should be - organised (each in their respective dir). Now when i started to use Susy and create new project, the style.css is compiled in the same dir as sass files. How can i change that. Thank you in advance!

    Derek, any reservations about rvm on windows? I have heard about people losing directories and that rvm might override the 'cd' command. Can this be done without it?

    How come you always install things through the terminal? Can't you install all these things normally?

    • @derekbanas
      @derekbanas  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The horrible story of a man that was forced to conect his youtube account to google+ That is a great user name! When you use Ruby based tools like this, you install the parts (Gems) using the terminal. As far as I know there is no other way to install these specific tools. It is pretty easy after you do it a few times.

      Derek Banas I think he's implying as am I, when you install from the command line so many times it doesn't go well! And may I say THANK YOU for your walk through on updating gems and such. I'd been using Ruby 2.0 for ages because I couldn't get the updates to run without wacked out errors in stuff like "Nokogiri" dependency conflicts and other cryptic messages that don't even make sense on stackoverflow! ;)

    Hi Derek,
    I was wondering if you could make a "learn in one video" video to learn Haskell. I know you have plenty of videos to make to cover programming/description languages but you don't have much functional programming video tutorials on your channel.

    Hello Derek! I am planning to start learning animation and game development... I am really confused with how I should start learning.. I know that mobile platforms mostly use opengl for graphics but I have no idea what opengl is, or even about game engines and what they do.. Where can I find some info on how things work to start with??
    Thank you :)

      so to use susy we need to instal wersion of ruby only 2.2.0? Not heiger?Susy works only with this version of ruby?
      The problems start after gem update.

  • @rustyz32
    @rustyz32 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Such a random video. Why Susy? I can hardly find anything about it on tech boards. What problem does it solve and what does it do better than other popular solutions in this domain?

    • @derekbanas
      @derekbanas  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      z32na Sass / Susy is the go to tools for Ruby / Rails and Stylus is used for NodeJS. Here is a great overview patrickarlt.com/sass-less-stylus-slides/#/

    • @skyline984
      @skyline984 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      z32na For example in Bootstrap, in a way, "forces" you to adapt your HTML to the framework with all those row, container, span3, span6, ... classes and the markup becomes full of those weird class names. Susy allows you to adapt the framework to your HTML by giving a normal name of the class to your HTML markup and then styling it through Susy in a "nicer" way.

    Thanks for the video! nice grid system, I'd not seen it. Much better than Bootstrap/Foundation grids, with all those extra layout divs.
    It might be more flexible than SemanticGS too? Appears that they don't have a version for Stylus though unfortunately.

    • @derekbanas
      @derekbanas  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Paul James Kimberlee Your welcome :) Basically Susy is used with Sass and stylus is for JS projects. I agree that it is much better then Bootstrap.

    • @Paljk299
      @Paljk299 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Derek Banas Yes I tend to use Stylus as I use JS and never use Ruby. Some things like semantic grid, or Bootstrap have versions for all the major pre-compilers, though it seems Stylus is a little less well supported than Sass and LESS.

    Aahh Alternative to Bootstrap. Joomla runs with Bootstrap, did you cover bootstrap?
    Would you be interested in making a video on 'creating a Joomla template from scratch" ? (you did WP) and maybe you can something with Typo3 I just heard about.

    • @derekbanas
      @derekbanas  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Honest Blogger! I was never a big Bootstrap fan. I used alternatives like Sass and Susy among others instead. I could make a Joomla tutorial. I'll see what I can come up with.

      Derek Banas hey Derek, just out of curiosity what is it about Bootstrap that you don't care for?

  • @alexandershekhtman770
    @alexandershekhtman770 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    I still don't understand why SASS couldn't accomplish the same thing. The file structure if pretty much identical to SASS.

    • @derekbanas
      @derekbanas  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +alexander shekhtman Some people prefer Susy. I covered it because people wanted to know how it worked if they were ever forced to use it. Many developers don't get the option to decided what tools they will need.
