    Ja Rule was well aware of the state of it all, just not the one defrauding investors. He actually told the press team "It's not fraud, it's false advertising" like that would make it better.

    • @DomR1997

      False advertising would fit the dictionary definition of fraud though lmao. "Wrongful deception intended to result in financial or personal gain". Eminem wouldn't have made that mistake because he reads the dictionary, unlike Mr.Rule apparently.

    he went to prison for 3 different frauds. He had 1 running before Fyre (though it was a ponzi that hadn't collapsed yet until they started looking into his finaces for the fyre festival), he was also charged for Fyre, and he did ANOTHER ONE to get some spending money while his assets were frozen (for like 10 million dollars).

    See the Pablo Escobar bit, they were explicitly told by the management of Norman's Cay, IN CONTRACT, not to mention in any way that it used to belong to Pablo Escobar. That's reasonable, that's bad press in general. Billy just ignored that condition, broke contract, so they didn't get to use that island anymore. In a way, I guess that's good because that means it didn't get to be an absolutely real Lord of The Flies situation, but it really shows that the whole thing is doomed from the start if the one heading the event is just that impulsive.

    When you look into Billy's other dealings (such as and especially Magnesis, which has been mentioned a couple times in the video), you will inevitably feel a lot less sorry about his festival failing, and move away from even considering he had any honest, good intentions with it. He was a fraudulent con-man through and through, and Fyre was nothing more than him overconfidently trying to chew far more than he could have ever been able to swallow, and choking on it. This making his little castle of cards, made up from all of his fraudulent businesses, crumble in the process in a domino effect.

    And you know what?
    If the music was there and there was actually food and water, most of the kids who were conned into paying the early bird special, would've been willing to rough it.
    I mean most music festivals are a dumpster fires, but you still go because of the music and to be with like minded people.
    I think a lot of people bought the unrealistically low ticket price, is because it was almost exclusively poor to maybe lower-middle class kids, who wanted to use some of their saved money to get to do something like this atleast once.

    last year I and My Brother went and visited my youngest Brother when he graduated and got his doctorate... In Milwaukee Wisconsin
    We stayed in a hotel for only 3 days, not a fancy one but more like the equivalent of a Best Western or a Holliday Inn
    we got a deal for staying the whole weekend and we drove ourselves and we ate with the family for Lunches and Dinners so we only bought Breakfast
    that trip cost us about $250
    As such, I dare say, you can't buy a vacation trip for 2 whole weeks _ANYWHERE_ for only $500
    Not if food and travel is covered

    Billy wasn’t a big hero who “tried so hard to make it happen even when everything went to shit around him! ):”. He was a spoiled man who always got what he wanted. He wanted to make a festival to fit in with the rich kids and be one of them and it blew up on his face. At the very sign of trouble, he could have canceled it and offer apologies left and right. He also could have LISTENED to the organizers when they told him that it wasn’t possible. Instead, he ignored them and continued promoting his sinking ship because power and money!.

    The thought behind it is pretty simple and is something Uber has been doing for some time. You operate at a LOSS for the first few years. By then you have established a brand name and connections and you can hike prices and start making profits. They simply didn't have the capital to operate another 2-3 years to start turning profits. What they really needed was the tickets to sell out, that's all.
    On another note, Uber is shit and people shouldn't be using it. Same as Amazon. Short tern comfort - long term agony. Uber operates at a loss and lower prices, until they push all the normal taxi drivers out of the business. Then they are free to hike prices. The problem with Uber is - there is no training, no exams to see if the driver is not an ape, no accountability. Hence why they were banned from Europe.
    Amazon is doing the same - operating on short loss at an area, until the local competition is gone, then people have no choice but to use them. Walmart does it too. All those companies can outlast the small local businesses at a loss. Then, well you vote with your wallet, every receipt you were given is a vote for the future. :)

  • @samzorn4656
    @samzorn4656 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Alright, so the festival would have cost over $50,000,000 (plus another year) to completely organize the festival. Now let's take into account the fact that Billy, Ja, and the Fyre organizers spent thousands of dollars to over 400 influencers in an effort to spread the word of Fyre Festival, with some being paid at least $200,000. Now, with those numbers taken into account and disregarding the recommended year of preparations, Billy, Ja, and the rest of the Fyre Festival team practically wasted either less than or more than $80,000,000 in false advertising.
    This is just my personal assumptions in that regard, so it's entirely possible that I might be mistaken, but still, spending millions of dollars in advertising seems pretty wasteful in my honest opinion, and that is putting it mildly.

    • @ACommonHero2
      @ACommonHero2 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're kind of assuming that all of them were being paid $200,000. From the context of the video, it seems more like that was the maximum paid to the highest-profile influencers. Most of them were probably paid significantly less, though I still wouldn't be surprised if the total was still somewhere in the millions of dollars.

    • @samzorn4656
      @samzorn4656 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ACommonHero2 You are right on me assuming they were paid $200,000, as that was the only amount that was featured in the video in regards to the advertising.
      I was merely being generous in that regard, while also taking into account the fact the amounts paid to those influencers might be significantly shorter or larger than that amount, hence the "less than or more than" part at the end of my comment.
      Still, the fact of the matter is that Billy and the festival organizers wasted millions of dollars that could have been used for the organization of the festival.
      I'm unfamiliar with the economics of advertising businesses and events, but even I think that millions of dollars in advertising is too much and detrimental to a budget.
