I told them the cameras from my workplace has picked the incident up with his number plate and they told me they'll be in touch with them. They never contacted them. When I questioned it they told me they had no investigation and they couldn't find the record of my report.

      @@ThatDarnIrishMan A civilian answers your call and upon hearing it's a hit and run (other serious crime is presumably the same) they put you through to a copper to make the report. When you speak to the copper they give you a phone number to ring them back on, which was Woking's police station. Not even 3 months later they claim there's no record of it. They didn't seem like they cared enough to look into the report like Anita said with her case. Nobody told me they would look into why no report was filed. @Larry Bones If you watched the video, Anitat states the case of Gwenyth Paltrow, who had mountains of evidence against her stalker be almost worth nothing when he was quickly acquitted. And that's coming from a person who can afford lawyers and has the resources to pursue legal action.

    • @HenleyTaylorYT
      @HenleyTaylorYT 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      @Larry Bones or because police refuse to do anything about stalkers until “something real happens” aka the stalker actually kills the person they’re stalking. They don’t care about evidence. You can find literally thousands of cases of stalking that were ignored by the police up until the person being stalked was badly hurt and/or killed, and it should never have to get that far.
      Not to mention Anita said there was evidence including a witness to one of the assaults and the police still chose to release the guy with a “caution” because they didn’t want to bother filling out a one page subpoena to confirm all the online evidence.

      Because most police departments don't take these things seriously. Since no physical harm has been done, or not sufficient harm, they don't take action. As she said, it's viewed as "too expensive" to pursue, regardless of the fact that someone could literally die through their inaction.

      Time and again, they won't action online messages. Hell, a lot of police won't even action text messages or phone calls. If it's not direct physical confrontation, it's not a "threat" for some reason.

      Some quick advice, never say you have a stalker or refer to them as “my stalker”. Always say “there’s a person stalking me” or “I’ve been dealing with a stalker. Normalizing saying those types of phrases instead in your day to day life will take one inch away from the stalker as you refuse to claim them as yours. Calling them your stalker makes them feel more important than they have any business being to you.

      No Name I want to clarify some things. I think there’s a difference between a claim and a truth. You claim that she is lying. We don’t know for a fact that she is. And second, I believe that you can support a good message without supporting the person. Those two can be separate. For example, if a liar said murder is bad. I can agree that murder is bad. (Most people would.) But we can still acknowledge the person did something wrong. Right?

      It's the world that isn't safe, once you get on the bad (or crazy) side of someone, you are fucked unless you have very little or no public records.
      In 1 way, twitch might be safer since you aren't going out every single day to get stalked on the streets to and from work and such (unless you IRL stream a lot), but then there's obviously the whole issue of them knowing exactly where you are so long as you are live...
      In places like the US it's even more dangerous as it's 100x easier to get/find access to a more dangerous weapon and more records are public.
      Twitch, like other media platforms, is only going to increase your chances at getting "targeted", still happens far too often to people without a public presence, and in their cases, it can be a lot harder to get help as they feel even more alone/trapped.

It's horrible that the police and laws won't help her, but I see no other option. All people should have the right to defend themselves.

    • @kitirena_koneko
      @kitirena_koneko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The reason why some people stalk others is unfortunately simple: the stalker builds up a delusional narrative about the person they're stalking being in love with them or otherwise being emotionally invested in them, or that they have some justification for chasing after their victim. Like I mentioned elsewhere in the comments, a friend of mine, shortly before we first met, was being stalked by a religious fanatic who claimed that he had the right to kill her because she was a witch and that no jury in the world would convict him of her murder if he did kill her because God's law superseded mortal law. This is one of many reasons why the mental health "care" system and legal system in many if not most countries need a massive overhaul.

I'm not against having weapons for self-defense, as long as it's a reasonable weapon (like a 9mm or .45 automatic as opposed to a fully automatic AK-47 or M-16) and a reasonable definition of "self-defense" (as in, "it was a stalker who's been trying to hunt me down and kill me", not just "it was some random dude walking through my alleyway not harming anyone, so I shot him anyway").

    Pushing for change is hard, I could really use your help. If you want to do your part please take to social media and use the hashag #stopstalking. Nobody else should have to lose their lives or their livelihoods. If you have ever been affected by this issue or you want to stand with those who have been this is a way that you can help us.
    If this gets enough attention, we can use that to push for change. Nothing can be done until we have enough awareness and public support. The police are clearly not up to date with modern tools of harassment online. And many platforms that content creators take to do not have effective measures to pass on evidence to law enforcement. This causes a HUGE blockade which drastically impedes a conviction. Its time we did better.
    Not only this, but two factor verification on accounts can combat "botting" and doxing on streams. Along with a "verified accounts only" access setting for streamers to enable when harassment starts in chat.
    This and is so much more that can be done, and can potentially protect streamers.
    *To those suggesting that I get a gun.*
    I have tourettes and my involuntary movements make a gun impossible to use. I have had a few stalkers in my life and had an abusive ex partner. In those cases if guns were easier to get in the UK, I would have been shot and killed by one of them long ago. I'm lucky to be living in a place where Neither I nor my stalker can get a gun easily.
    *To those that suggest that I move.*
    I am a carer for my mum. Also it takes seconds to dox someone, and months to move house. Destiny moved to evade stalking and was doxed before he even moved his stuff into his new place. Also I'm too busy to move all the time, sometimes I sleep twice a week, I don't have time to move house on top of caring for my mum, streaming, and caring for my rescue animals.
    *To those that suggest I move to the USA*
    Most of the examples in this video are not in the UK. This is a global problem. Several people mentioned are from the USA.
    *To those suggesting that I hire a guard.*
    That is not a viable option. I already pay mods, editors, and a management team.
    *To those suggesting that Dox him*
    If I do manage to take this to court, I would be charged with doxxing as it is a crime. Also using my position of power as a popular streamer would prejudice a court against me, and hurt my ability to prosecute. Also he's mentally ill, I don't wish him harm I just want to be safe myself.
    *To those suggesting I get a taser or pepper spray*
    They are illegal in the UK. And No man who I have ever defended myself against has stopped after I hurt him. One guy actually asked me on a date as soon as he got out of hospital with broken knuckles, and another did the same with a broken arm and leg. Violence has never resolved this kind of situation for me, it has just impressed every man I have ever had to protect myself from.
    Also please stop sending business emails saying that you will be my body guard for free. I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm not inviting any strangers to come and stand watch on my doorstep. The problem is that I already have too many people doing that lol.

Nowadays you have 17year olds getting people swatted in the US just for getting slighted online. I think within 5years we’ll see a change slowly. It’s like we’re in the Wild West of the Internet still messaging wise. There needs to be better safe guarding without having to pay for a years vpn which will only work if you do EVERYTHING via your browser and most VPN companies do log and sell data. There’s no answer really. Being on your own with a device and with an endless stream of bile to spew at people it won’t stop til people stop. Don’t feed the trolls is very true. Just never interact with someone. That one whack job comment you reply to might be the start of a chain of irreversible events. People have very strange minds and with twitch going on 24/7 there’s a lot of weird people who get fixated on people they think they know , just because the dono’d $/£/€5 they think they’re owed something or think they’ll be the one guy the streamer remembers. In my college there was an incident once. One of the girl's ex had been stalking and threating her to get back together and telling her that he would kill himself with her.
    She saw him once with a knife and went back to her room running. She contacted police and everything and being in a hospital (medical college) police is always there so she thought it should be safe. And girls had a very gaurded hostel so it was relatively safe for her. She was adviced by her friends and the officer to stay in the hostel untill they catch the suspect, her friends would get her anything she needed.
    For 3 days she didn't leave her room but eventually she got frustrated and thought it should be ok by now. So she just went out for a cup of tea on campus itself not even 100meters from the hostel. The stalker knived her in the neck multiple times Severing her major vessels. He then stabbed himself in the stomach. Hospital was right there so both of them were admitted but the girl was beyond saving. Boy on the other hand was saved by a simple surgery.
    It's at those times it feels bad being a doctor. You can deny the treatment to this vile person but your own ethics don't let you do that. Hearing your story reminded me of that. Police wasn't so unreceptive like in your case but they surely didn't put that much active effort into catching this killer.
