Patio tanks, how do you feel about substrate? I ask because all of your tanks are bare bottom. I had a flowerhorn, had a gravel substrate. It must've gotten stressed because the heater broke, and swallowed a piece of gravel. It died, but loved keeping these fish.

Look at my more recent videos. I use substrates only appropriate for flowerhorns though. Other than that, I would recommend bare bottom. I use river rocks because they get to play with the rocks and it somewhat does hold bacteria.

Patio tanks, thoughts on using Almond leaves for bacteria issues in the tank?
My Kamfa has had fin rot, skin discolouration & hole in the head issue. It's been over 3 months of doing treatments & water changes based on medicines available in my area. It's something or the other issue keeps popping up.
Water TDS is in the 200-500 range and temperature is at 29 degree Celsius. Any advice is super helpful

I would suggest bumping the temperature up to 30-32. And almond leaves is always good for any fish! Make sure water is hard. Around 8.3-8.7 pH.

@@PatioTanksFlowerhorns Thanks, will bump up the temperature.
About water being hard, won't that also increase TDS? I've never used a water testing kit so not very aware about this.

@@aatif_mohd flowerhorn prefer hard water. If they live in conditions less than 8.3? There might be issues with the fishes immune system. Some flowerhorns are able to live in it, for the most, they prefer 8.3 and up. No less than 8.8. Although I have test to 9.3 before and it's safe but does not apply to all flowerhorns.

    • @PatioTanksFlowerhorns

It can be a lot of things like showing dominance by marking his spot, clearing up the area to make it more comfortable for him, early signs of internal parasites, maybe that’s his behavior, aggression, skin irritation, and so many more. Just monitor your fish and make sure it’s fine even after some weird activities.
