Probably because of the lighting effects
It looks more intense, the contrast between the darkness and the things they shoot, the feeling of "being alone" in that place
For me it's the idea that it's harder to see the disaster makes it more intense
The sound and the fact it is in a dark is soooo good

I remember playing the demo version over, over, over over and over again until I laid my hands on this game, easily my favorite NFS game in the last 10 years, had so much fun.
I used to do that with the Hot Pursuit 2010 and Most Wanted 2012 demos
2:39 Kind of interesting how the tunnel overrides the on/off status of the car's lights. Looks like there are at least three triggers placed in and around the tunnel, to initiate the scripted sequence where Jack lights up his way when an avalanche makes the tunnel go dark. The first one seems to ensure that the lights are off, the second switches them on in the darkness, and the third turns them off again. Notice how they're always on in the level's first half and how they are never used again after the tunnel sequence takes place
Good eye, it's a shame that we cannot identify/find the code to disable it.
@@IsuckAtDriving you'd definitely need to edit the map itself I'd say, it'll be a hardcoded trigger.

@@IsuckAtDriving I agree with BodenM on this one - triggers are usually baked right into the map. It's not the same as 'just' changing some code - you have to delete the trigger itself so it doesn't overwrite your code, more like.
But it really is a shame we can't do anything about it - I don't think we'll see map editing in NFS any time soon. Still, to at least be able to see this race happen at night in the first place is amazing, and your driving makes it even better
The blind attack is really strong on this section.
When you've put yourself and your Toyota into a situation that involves Shinigami and such a high amount of physical danger that you don't even bother with the Eurobeat.

Asides from a few effects, it seems like most materials are handled by the lighting instead of being pre-baked. I love that.

How you can change cars and time of day? Are you using some kind of modding software or just playing with game files?
I think modding software. Changing the files of this game is pain in the ass. Something with cheat engine but not entirely sure.

Yes it involves cheat engine and identifying the codes and modifying it. There is a mod just released in nfsmods for the public which involves the same modding method in which I will cover the mod in the upcoming days.

It looks a bit weird because the track isn't designed for Night races, but you can see the potential if there were some tweaks to the lighting.

Well, it used to be a mod on nfsmods.xyz called NFS The Run Perfected mod but sadly it is no longer there since either MRally2 got banned from nfsmods or he deleted the mod by himself.
Also for your information sadly Frosty Editor doesn't support NFS The Run for some reason unlike the other NFS for Frostbite (the SDK is just missing).
TBH, it's more fitting that the Corolla's headlights stay off in the final sector, it's like Takumi's trick!
So this is the dark side of mount Akina, i'm amazed on how Takumi handled this situation very well.
