One of my all time favourite videos. That Engine sounds like it was designed by God. Look at the keyring, the driver is sawing away at the wheel but the car is so smooth in every stage, never shifting its attitude in and out of corners. Absolutely awesome skill!
The most expensive was actually the "Serie 1" (designed by Bizzarrini), which was waaay more beautiful that the "Serie 2" (designed by Scaglietti), this exact car. The scaglietti was a mix between the Bizzarrini and the 250 LM.
IIRC, this engine had two sets of dual points, stacked on top of one another. The distributor was a work of mechanical art. Each set timed the even & odd cylinders separately, 60° out of phase.
This driver is awesome. Not only are they really matching those revs with lightening speed and precision but cars from that period were not known for being light to drive or shift. Masterclass on the drivers part.
The human perceived mastery of steering input, brake, clutch etc in videos like this just affirm my love of this sport. We'll never be perfect driving machines but trying to get close is sometimes a beautiful thing to behold.
The sound that engine makes is incredible - like having Pavarotti singing Nessun Dorma right in front of you. The McLaren F1 is another fabulous engine as well, we need a side by side comparison just because it would be awesome.
I do not think the owner would ever make it a trailer queen... The owner never owned a real, original GTO, so he built one for himself. He bought a 1960s Ferrari 250 GTE, modified the bits like the engine, gearbox, suspension to match the GTO specs, then built a new chassis and bodywork to place all of it in. All this just so he can have a GTO of his own...

I wish we had some HD footages, both onboard and trackside, with A-level sound from the 60s when they were racing these things at full tilt around the wildest circuits...that would blow some minds
This is such an old car yet the shifting is sooo smooth and soo quick! My heart is beating soo fast, what I would do to get one lap in this perfect car.
I love watching this driver clutch and shift! He is an expert at old school driving! Put any of the modern top drivers,who are used to paddle shifting,and no clutch,and that driver probably would blow an engine or a gearbox within 2 laps!
I really wish they still made cars like this. Remove the safety, electronic nannies, and smog requirements. I just want a pure driving experience back. My S2000 is the closest I will ever come to this
