This videography was done on my fifth visit to this grand and ancient rock cut temple of ancient India. I love visiting it and just sit in this cave temple, away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. It rejuvenates me every time, I visit this DevaSthanam. Take out time from your busy life and kindly visit. Eternal peace awaits you.

I had visited Ihole temple but not this one.A very beautiful temple with the sculptures telling hundred stories is really amazing. I was surprised to know that the Nataraja Sculpture here was the oldest among Hindu temples. Thank u sir, for letting us know about this great cave temple. Karnataka is blessed to have great ruler dynasties like Chalukyas, Rashtrakootas, Hoysalas, Kadambas...

your enthusiasm and effort is really very amendable. the information furnished by you with regards to sculptures and the Puranic episodes are correct to a great extent. But with regards to architecture you need some more reading. The two storeyed building in the Meguti hill is not a Basadi but a Bauddha Vihara. The faces on the lintel are not royal figures but are called as Gandharva mukhas, which occupies the gadha part of the decorative motif called as Nasi. The pot bellied sculptures on the either sides are not of Kubera, but his attendants. They are known as Shankhanidhi and Padmanidhi and are found in innumerable instances on the either sides of the door jambs. The inner sanctum where the Linga is consecrated is the Garbhagriha and not grivamantapa. Another suggestion is that do try to corroborate the explanation with sculptures. While you are describing Ardhanarishwara the sculptures of Saptamtrikas are being shown. However this is a very very appreciable work.

Sir, I am just a novice. Not a historian or an archeologist. By the way, no historian or an archeologist has ever agreed to the same point of view on any given subject. And there are umpteen debates on any given topic. Any way, thanks for your suggestions, Sir.

@ K P..There are many mythical creatures on the roof ceiling.. Many are half human, half animal/bird, particularly in the lower part. Your observation may also be true.

Sound creates vibrations . If there is music n commentary , they should go hand in hand . I can’t exactly say what is wrong with the music n commentary combo used here , but it does not. create conducive environment to focus n enjoy . I know you know all these things . Just sharing my opinion . Music sounds really good in between when there is no commentary for a while . Probably u r working on this ...

Sir, humongous efforts in detailed videography of the temples iconograph spread across India has been my passion, Any way, I have more than 100GB of data which was lying in my hard-drive for a long time , collected over more than 10 years. My children are now adults and not interested in any of these . So, I thought, why not share with everyone . It may help people not be able to visit these grand places due to various reasons. Any way, thanks.

@@TemplesofAncientIndia thanks for sharing. I wonder have you ever noticed near every Samana ( or Jain) caves there is Hindu temples. Before Samana and Budhism People in India were following Aseevakam (In Tamil) then the Bramin influence the Kings and made caste systems etc and taken over the old faiths. People in the south prayed God in the form of Kula theivams ( a person sacrificed their life for the people and died or nature ). In aseevagam 7 forms ( 7male and 7female ) represent stages. Where ever Aseevakam was replaced by Bramin, Hinduism, there is a statue of a lion killing an elephant or a bull. It is a hidden message as the Bramin are so clever, made a fancy story to cover up this to make people believe all these have metaphors to represent Hindu spirituality as if there is a deeper meaning there. Linga worship was there long before Hinduism was established in India and Shiva was at least according to Tamil scripts , A Sithar, a saint lived 30000 years ago and died not some magical god from heaven. He was a hunter then he invented many things including Yoga and meditation. The snake on his neck is representing Kundalini not that he is a snake charmer. Tamils have a tradition of following Sithar and shiva was considered as one. Saivaits followed Shiva , he was the first Saint of Aseevagam and then Vishnu who, was unlike Hindu fairy tales, born and died Tamil Sithar He was a King and invented astronomical calendars and planets etc (Tamils still use his Calender). He was known as Varatharaja or perumaal and later called vinvittar- because he was watching the sky (vin in Tamil is Sky) Some people followed him strongly and they were called Vaishnavait; The original name changed to vittinar - sanskrit -as Vishnu. He was again stolen by Hinduism and created a fairy tale story and made him another god in heaven with his wife etc. They also included a story of Avatar! Vishnu was one of the Sithar in Aseevakam , Samanam and Jainism ( samanam is Tamil way of life not teh same as Jainsim which was followed by people in north India. I hope if you know the history that was hidden to many of us , you can find the meaning for all these temple scultures. They speaks the truth but we dont see.
