This version of Sound of Silence is almost a religious experience. His voice grabs your soul and makes you listen
I've listened to the original version all my life, but THIS VERSION makes me teary-eyed every time I hear it. Watching you and other reactors discovering all this great music makes my day, thanx
I cried when I heard it
I whole heartedly agree, I never thought I would like any version more than the original but this takes my breath away!
Because of this cover, I finally understood the lyrics.
S&G original was a warning. Disturbed version is a pledge on humanity's state now.
it still amazes me that he had a fever and had to sit down for it
And the accompanying Tympany player perfectly punctuates David's singing.
If im not mistaken, he had the flu during that performance. Beautiful song and amazing cover.
Yes he had been sick while doing this performance
Always gives me goosebumps when he changes it up into that gritty David signature tone, absolutely amazing
David was actually classically trained to be a cantor... that's why his voice is so amazing ❤
We played this song at my husband's funeral. It was my husband's favorite version . Touched everyone's heart strings .
.
It has close to a billion views here in the states - this song is almost 60 years old & the lyrics are just as relevant as they were 60 years ago, even more so!
This is the best sung song I have ever heard. Hands down. Talent beyond comprehension
I've watched so many reaction videos of this, and it never gets old. I especially watch for that moment about 5 bars in when the reactor's eyes widen and their jaw starts to drop.
I love watching reaction videos to this..its as close to experiencing it again for the first time that we can get.
This version is so powerful that it sinks into you soul.
Glad you did this live performance. So much better than the music video
One of the best covers ever
The best cover ever whete the cover is better than the original in my opinion
Absolutely love this version of this song. David's voice is just sublime, he has a fantastic range and the emotion he puts into the performance is incredible.
It takes you on a journey and leave you in tears. Bravo.
That last verse punches you in the gut every time. It always makes me tear up bc it's so relatable to today. Perfection!
Please try Oktaf Kanis - Come On, thanks 🔥
Thanks for the reaction. Watch the "official " version. The visuals are really spectacular and make the entire performance breathtaking!!! A real Masterpiece!!!!
If you enjoyed the softer side of Disturbed, check out their " Hold on to Memories ". David Draiman's voice is just as fantastic. 😊
omg, yes!! I completely second this, although the song rips my heart. 💯 upvoted!
One of my favorites!!
David was so sick that night the host suggested he not sing,he would perform but had to sit down , Paul Simon said that's not mine anymore, it belongs to David!
so beautiful,amazing disturbed,vocalist 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
this is one of the most astonishing & phenomenal compositions I've ever heard, only made better by it being a cover of a song that was already a beloved classic hit. every time I listen to it I'm blown away all over again by how it takes a song we know by heart & turns it on its head & somehow comes up with something even greater & more emotionally compelling than the original.
On first listen didn't understand the msg but bawled like a baby.i now understand and still sob, never had a singer sing a song and move me like he does
First of all , everything about this version is quality built on quality. A beautiful song from decades past catapulted into the stratosphere. Secondly, having listened to many reaction videos by others and a handful of yours, I have to say your enthusiasm and passion for classics is second to none. Keep it up.
This covet is Phenomenal. I absolutely LOVE Disturbed cover. So powerful
David Draiman's voice is phenomenal. This cover is too. ❤
Damn! David Draiman can sing! ...one of the best on the planet imho. He can even put vibrato on distortion! ... which is incredible difficult to do. Sometimes he sounds sooo angelic... then on a dime comes the distortion and back... which is again so difficult. The man has such control of his voice! ... it's really amazing! Liked your reaction Sevsimo.
Opera turned rock star. David is epic.
When this song was originally written back in the 60's it is when tvs started coming out and don't disturb the shows that were on. When they sing about neon lights it is the tvs.
He was sick during this... Like Wtf!!! Angelic. I have seen Disturbed Live Twice.. Sounds so AMAZING Live...
Team CHOPPY FOR THE WIN again..
Best cover ever!!!!
the lead singer of Disturbed is David Draiman & yes before he started playing heavy metal he was classically trained.
As a cantor
A few things:
1) David Draiman is a trained Cantor
2) this song was written by Paul Simon in 1963 and first sung by Simon and Garfunkel.
3) David was ill at this performance - hence him sitting down.
4)When Paul Simon heard the studio version, he was so struck that he turned to David Draiman and told him "That song is now yours."
5) the video is much better
FALSE. Paul Simon shared it on his social media but HE DID NOT tell Disturbed it's their song now. This is a MYTH circulating TH-cam, regurgitated by people who don't know how to Google. These people are conflating this song with 'Hurt' in which the original singer DID tell Johnny Cash that it's his song now.
Let this myth die now.
Grew up listening to the original version, because of my father. I like that Disturbed give it a new twist. I love both versions (kinda like for the song Hurt or Nothing Compares 2 U).
Yay, today we have two great reactions for the WIN on the channel, thanks!✌🏻I've heard several covers of this beautiful song and this might be my favorite; it's a stunning interpretation by Disturbed!
Amazing, just didn't want it to end...
INCREDIBLE COVER 🔥🔥🤘🏻🤘🏻
The original song is by Simon and Garfunkel, they approved this to be done by Disturbed.
David Draiman lead singer was actually a Celtic singer growing up in the Jewish culture, he’s an amazing singer and very talented
He was actually extremely sick in this performance, and he still goes out there and delivers, absolutely love this man!!
#TEAMCHOPPYDROPS
I recommend THE GAME by Disturbed from their debut album, it’s a BANGER for the playlist!!
I believe he was a CANTOR singer, which is part of the Jewish faith. Not Celtic.
@@melissavukelic4138 thank you!! It’s Cantor, I couldn’t remember ❤️
@@davidriddick82 Yw 🙂
check the official video for this song. The visuals and vocal together are awesome. Also as I recall David was a bit sick when being in Conan, so his official video vocals are even better!!
That voice was made by God.
As an old school Disturbed fan, his voice his tremendous. Disturbed does a cover on almost every album. From Tears for Fears, Phil Collins, to this one by Simon and Garfunkal. They make each one their own. ❤ Fun fact in 2001 the singer was in front of me in the beer line in VA Beach at Off-fest 😂
What Phil Collins song?
@@helenespaulding7562land of confusion when Phil was with Genesis I believe? I know that’s the song but I honestly don’t know much about Phil Collins
@@kevinabraham9260 I do. LOVE him! I’ll check k it out. Thanks!
They also have an amazing original music video for this song-very powerful ❤
Awesome energy bro fantastic reaction 🤘
This video turned me on to Disturbed. Never liked metal but David’s voice is so awesome I’ve fallen in love with their music 🤯 I see you are into the heavier stuff but Pentatonix has a cover of this song you might want to checkout. They’ve been together since 2011. They are known worldwide. Have 3 Grammys. Multiple platinum albums. A star on the Hollywood walk of fame. Even if you don’t do a reaction to them they are worth checking out. They also have 20 million subscribers and over 6 Billions views. Their fan base are called Pentaholics and they are extremely loyal. Would probably bring in quite a few subscribers 😂 oh yeah, one more thing. They are acappela. 🤭
I like this version of the song better than Simon and Garfunkel’s for sure! I was blown away by his voice too!!!
If you like this vocal performance you should check out Dimash Kudaibergen, who I believe is the best singer on the planet at this time❤
he was classically trained.. i love him and this group.. he can do things no other group can...
Phenomenal ❤
Your observations were right in target. 👍🏼
J'adore cette chanson
I loved the original, so not sure of new cover, but, omgs! This is simply the best ever!!!🌺😻🐾
Top tear indeed. Hands down. The best cover ever made to date.
Next please react to Come On by Oktaf Kanis, thank youuu!
This cover has done a lot of good for heavy music.
Omg love your reaction! ❤️🎼❤️🎼
You were not ready for this!!!!
Hold onto memories is another by Disturbed
You got the message for real! GOOSEBUMPS FOR REAL!!Like this was a RE~MAKE/REN~DITION OF ABSOLUTE RESPECT AND GRACE OF ANOTHER ARTISTS MESSAGE OF A SONG!! It should be placed or noted in SOME KIND OF HALL OF FAME!
I discovered this cover and started following Disturbed. This performance is good. Watch the original black and white 2015 video. It give real meaning to the lyrics! I enjoy their metal and nonmetal songs. Their videos are works of art! Draiman was a classically trained Jewish Cantor, as his father and grandfather before him. I heard that his brother is an opera singer?
Disturbed always does a cover every album. This cover of Simon and Garfunkel is considered one of the greatest.
I've seen Distrubed, and David has serious pipes. He was also very sick with some kind of respiratory infection when this performance was recorded. Take that into consideration about his ability.
had a 104% fever with the flu when he sung this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have seen hundreds, if not thousands, of reactions and yours is one of my favorites! P.S. Your head did get banged!
Simon and Garfunkel told us in a soft, calm whisper to "wake-up " change our ways, or else, but we didn't listen so......... we now have " Disturbed " taking it up a notch! The message and the performance is brilliant!
U have to check their other video of it! Awesome video!!!!
David is classily trained.
It always gives me waves of goosebumps
He did have the flu.
This was without no doubt; to me, it was the single best performance I’ve ever heard!!!!!!
The song is written about Art Garfunkel's best friend from college suffering with glaucoma and going blind.
Classically trained cantor. He’s fantastic 💙
This song is about the lack of communication. Yes, he had the flue during this performance Check out the studio version.
God mode singing
Their cover of this Simon and Garfunkel song is the equivalent of Johnny Cash's cover of the nine inch nails song Hurt. Which I highly suggest you check out if you haven't heard it before. Both are more incredible than the originals.
I couldn't imagine being in the audience. I would have pee'd my pants.
David and Myles Kennedy did a cover of the sound of silence and Euston Texas live I don't year
Absolutely great song!
Now watch the official video version. The images will take you on an emotional journey. The original version by Simon & Garfunkel was meant as a warning about technology consuming people. This version begins dark and ends angrily because the warning heeded.
the amazing part of this version is he is sick with the flu with a temp of 102. he is a trained Cantor
The Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel is sad resignation.
The Sound of Silence by Disturbed is Listen, DAMMIT!
The actual and original video from Disturbed has almost a billion views 949,000,000 views.
Another great cover to check out is Chris Cornell - "Nothing Compares 2 U" (Prince cover made famous by Sinead O'Conner) [Live @ SiriusXM] | Lithium.
This song is epic!! Always loved Simon and Garfunkels versions but Disturbed did it better for sure.
Hope we get back to Pantera Soon for more choppy greatness.
Check out their song Message in blood, it’s a groovy B side that no one knows about outside of the Pantera-verse
I Love your beard, I'm actually jealous 😮
I missed this reaction from days ago! Watching now lol. Love the song and Disturbed is one of my fav bands since day 1! 🖤🤘 stay awesome Sevsimo!!
Their original music video has over 930 million views I believe. Not that far from 1 billion.
He had been quite ill that night and was suffering from some problem with his throat as well so couldn't sing his normal way. But he nailed it anyway. Recommend you wat h the official music video too.
David Draiman had the flu when he performed this!! Incredible!! ❤
Thanks for this one. If you want to a different version of this song then you should listen too is by an Arcopella group, Pentatonix.
Home Free!! Man of Constant Sorrow
David Draiman had a high temperature and a fever on this performance!
Chills….🤘🏻Rock on Disturbed. Rock on team choppy drops🤘🏻
***** The Warning *****
"And the people bowed and prayed, to the neon gods they made." ~ Paul Simon
"And the people bowed and prayed, to the golden calf they made." ~ Old Testament
His training as a cantor gives him the pipes for this
Interesting fact : David Draiman's singing talent was discovered early in his life in Synagogue and he was training to be a Cantor when he dropped out of school to join a rock band.
I love this cover, and your reaction was a great one😊
Hey man a lot of bands for whatever reason give their best performances on Conan. Please check out Panic at the Disco performing 'Death of a Bachelor' live on Conan. Top tier vocals for sure plus just a killer song. You'll love it.
This song is sad❤️
..."then again, would they have heavy chops on Conan?" 😂😂😂
Most people don't know he is classically trained. He was sick during this as well. Best cover, never heard anything like it.
And now you know why its got 140million views.
Nice Nice
check out the visuals on the studio cut Sir . i always liked this song , but now i know it. thx
Yes, so this does have over 140 million views ... their Official Music Video - over 935 Million (yes, it will reach 1 BILLION sometime next year) in fewer than 8 years into its release (it'll probably reach a billion around 8.5 years into it).
This song was written back in 1964 by Paul Simon as a warning about communication. Disturb's version is about not heeding the warning.
This song was first performed in September of 1963.
Dude, you *need* to check out Shylmagoghnar. Any song from them, really. Can't go wrong.
