      @@prettybird2588 HB has passed away since this thread started. He made it to 15 years old, which is exceptionally impressive for a male lion. He came from an era of great coalitions and fought against the mighty Majingilanes He was the last sole surviving lion to have once faught the Legendary Mapogos. He was one of the biggest lions to have have ever roamed the Sabi and most of all, he had a very Hairy Belly!! RIP King!!!

  • @selati
    @selati 3 ปีที่แล้ว +52

    we need to remember that the Mapogos dominated practically all these areas, they were a very powerful coalition and at the time they were at their peak as dominant, there were not so many lions inhabiting Sabi Sand, thanks to the aggressiveness of that coalition, they killed many rivals and expelled many others, if you made a video "lion of sabi sand" from that time, it would be Mapogos the whole video, an incredible and very powerful coalition, rest in peace legends, their legacy was not passed on as far as I know, very sad

    • @bradjb2404
      @bradjb2404 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      It's very impressive when you actually think about it. Even when they lost members of their coalition they still ruled over large areas. Being one of the most violent and aggressive male coalitions will get you far when you kill off all competition and run them out of town. It's why they're legendary.

      @bradjb2404 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@jakekelly336 You mean Othawa M and T (Mapogos sons?). In my opinion they most likely were killed shortly after entering Kruger or were poached. It was strange how there were no more sightings of them. Sadly, a lot of Mapogo and Majingilane offspring were simply just unlucky accept for a few.

    • @elandraxe
      @elandraxe 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's amazing that the Mapogo's had such a total dominance and ended up with a small number of heirs. I know lion's life is very harsh but it makes me think (after a few drinks I must confess) that the way the lions are evolving is not always the best for themselves. Maybe it's the case with all life species in the end, but I just hope the lions won't disappear.

    • @bradjb2404
      @bradjb2404 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@elandraxe I might be wrong on this, but I remember reading a blog that said that 'Big Mak' had so many cubs, but it's hard to know if any of them made it to adulthood. Another reason is Mr T, he killed some of his own brothers offspring. Some may even suggest it's karma for what the Mapogo coalition did to other prides of lions. I just hope Othawa Male makes it.

    I won't hide the fact that the Mapogos are my favorites ❤ but I respect all the coalitions that there are in the past in Sabi Sand, ( Majingilane,Selati, etc) they all marked history in their own way 💖...... now, place for young lions (except Hairry belly, Bboys, Mhantimal etc ....) I really like Big-Boy, who is no longer very young, unfortunately don't see him much, but at the last news, he is doing well 😊 I also like the southern avocas, who have not had much luck compared to their northern brothers (descendants) but at the time, there were a lot of lions in sabi sand .... I hope that with the Sand River Pride, they will be able to have a beautiful descendants ... .😊 Ottawa male is also one of my favorites😉 in fact, I love them all, these lions are too beautiful .... 💞 thanks for the video 👍

    When it comes to N'waswitshaka/Ndhzenga Males presentation you should add that these 4 young males have been sent running by both S.Avoca Males at Lion Sands and Knp, and Birmingham Males chased them off around Sabi Sabi. Good for them is that they haven't lost any coalition member so far and they will be great contenders in the near future if they stick together
