The best part of his Cash impersonation, IMO, was his mannerisms and style of playing the guitar, strumming the strings anywhere from the bridge to the neck... Check out the clip from the Glenn Campbell show.
yep i agree. only one Merl in this world but sadly he's not with us anymore but luckily we have his music that will not forgotten.. HIS LEGACY LIVES ON RIP THE HAG🙏
Merle Ronald Haggard was an endless wellspring of musical and literary talent. One of Country's greatest guitarists, an accomplished fiddler, a peerless singer, Merle was also one of the most gifted authentic composers and lyricists in the genre, a true genius with a multiplicity of styles infusing his many differing compositions. And, as he showed me one evening as we traveled his bus, he could do absolutely the finest musical impressions ever rendered in County Music. His Marty Robbins impersonation was so flawless, so spot-on in voice, tonality, range, fluidity, phrasing, and accent that if you closed your eyes you could not distinguish it from the original. Marty himself, was shocked when he first heard Merle do him. Merle was a GIANT in entertainment, as big or bigger in Country than even Elvis was in Rock 'n Roll and popular music. It is an emptier world with Merle no longer in it. He is terribly missed.
Will Ruha : Sir. Your comment about Merle being an excellent composer jogged my memory. Hears' some real trivia for you. Around 30yrs ago, I happened to be listening to one of my favorite radio shows, a local talk-radio show. They interviewed "Whipering Bill" Anderson. He was a prolific song writer (which I did not know), Anderson wrote for all types of musicians, from Sinatra to the Rolling Stones (or some other rock group). ABSOLUTELY AMAZING !
There will never again be so monumental a figure in the history of Country music as Merle Haggard. GIfted with a beautiful singing voice, he graced his vocal talent with amazing guitar work and truly poetic lyricism matched to wondrous melodies as the best songwriter in his field, and to top it all off, he is peerless and impeccable as a musical impressionist. Wake up world! Appreciate this giant while he is with us!
One of the finest country western vocalist and dance bands. Emerged into the big time as a singer with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. The times I floated across the dance floor with a charming lady, the self totally lost and forgotten and Meryl singing .....ahhh sweetest of memories.
Merle is a great artist. I don't think his rare talent has ever been recognized like it should have been for country music. You rock Merle, thanks... Wayne..
I saw Merle in concert back in the 70's and his impersonations are awesome. He sings and acts like the people he is performing. Music today doesnt come close to the class acts like this. Thanks.
OMG The impersonating of Hank snow was superb not just his display of talent but Mr haggard has got such a lovely sense of humour which e n d e a r s him to his fans another one he impersonated to the t was buck Owens loved it all the way rest in peace Legend h a g we will never find another you
My mom had this album and we used to love this as kids. She loved Marty Robbins too and we just loved listening to these impressions! Some great childhood memories. As another person said earlier, you can't impersonate male country singers anymore because they all sound the same. Give me the classics anytime!!
I love Marty Robbins' music. Hank Snow will always be Nova Scotia's finest. Johnny is a legend. Buck revolutionized the music scene. And Merle is the man.
my dad had this album. ...I used to listen to this when I was a kid...I would play this portion over and over..what a true talent and what a loss to the music world
me also. Dad introduced me to this album and Merle when I was about 10. I've grown to listen to and love it so much that I know just about every inflection within each song on this Philadelphia album. I just wish there was a video of it.

What talent and funny as hell! I have loved his music for many decades! It's not just the impersonation voice. In the videos he mimics their movements so well. Especially Cash.
Yep, when he was young...he couldn't be touched. Pure, raw talent, the man had no voice training...and to be able to sing like that...amazing to say the least. The first time that I saw him perform, I believe I was around 8 years old, he's been my favorite singer ever since...was in '69, so I'm guessing that he was around 30. Sad to hear that he's lost that wonderful voice that he had back then...oh well, we still have video of him.
He had more talent than any of todays stars! Singer, songwriter, guitarist, fiddler, impersonator, actor and entertainer! Most of todays stars should look over their shoulder, nod and thank Mr. Haggard. He was an inspiration to all of us. He was a troubadour. I still listen to him every day. There is no other artist that i listen to daily. His voice was beautiful. His contributions to music is and will be unmatched for a long time to come.
You'll be missed Merle....I grew up listening to him on the TV, records and radio....oh and the old jukebox....I two stepped to many of his songs...I always thought he was a very handsome man in my book....I've sung his songs as an entertainer by choice and requests..and I'll continue to. Gonna miss you....
He was really good at imitating those for country music singers! Thank you for bringing this to us! And thank you for all the great pictures of Merle from the past! My husband would call him Merle the Pearl!!! He loved him so much!
Obviously a very talented man and I did not give him his due at the time I thought was too busy with rock and such. Sorry I missed it. Thanks Merle. I do appreciate it.
Well said. I have had the pleasure of seeing him live 3 times. My all time favorite memory is seeing him and Marty Robbins in the late 70's, I have some great pictures of that night.
I've just learned a new repect for this man. Never really cared for him but this impersonation of these really great singers just blew me away. Marty Robbins and Buck Owens, two of my all time favorites and he pretty much nailed em. All I can say is Bravo Merle Haggard.
A huge Thanks for compiling this!, to whomever did the deed! Would that we had more and more saved "old-school" stuff from their era! Spose' we all miss it some...,
My father was the biggest Merle fan. He would play Merle every day. He also had every album he ever made. He would convert the LP on to cassette as to keep the LP in good condition. He also got to meet his idol backstage after a concert. Rest in peace both of them
Great impersonations! Merle is just the best country artist ever! He sounds more like Hank Snow than Hank sounds! 7 dislikes...must have hearing problems.! Janelle in Houston
Not all by any means but most of them do. The people that go to the shows and buy the music are responsible. They have a right to enjoy stupid shit so here we sit.
Astounding talent - thank you! (In all the history of entertainment, I wonder if anyone ever had more talent, more grit, more character, more heart, more heartache - or did a better job of beating the living hell out of himself - than Merle Haggard!) (Of course an epic motion picture should be made about the life & work of this seminal figure in Americana!)
Yup, he has it all! - Wonderful voice, good looks and a great talent for impersonations! SUCH a pity "they don't make country artists like that anymore"... modern "country" isn't country, and the singers sound just like the European chatterboxes... Sigh!
And with all of Merle's talent he still remained very humble and remembered what it was like before he became so famous. Merle stayed Merle. R.I.P. Merle. Very much loved and missed.
wow...i've not heard this in over 30 years! i was like 10 years old and my uncle had the album this was on and i would listen to it all the time as i was facinated by the impersonations.i remember well that my uncle took the record to a friends house to play it for him and later he left it the back seat of his car and the sun warped the crap out of it.needless to say it would never play again lol.
Merle is probably hands down the best artist to ever live
My favorite.
Probably hell...he is the greatest and George is the 2nd greatest or vice versa

Merle is just AWESOME! The Johnny Cash impression was ok, but the Hank Snow and Marty Robbins were DEAD ON!!! What a talented man!
Buck Owens,, Right on
The best part of his Cash impersonation, IMO, was his mannerisms and style of playing the guitar, strumming the strings anywhere from the bridge to the neck... Check out the clip from the Glenn Campbell show.
That Marty impression never gets old to me, he was great and so talented. Excellent 👍
Merle picked 4 great voices: Marty, Hank S., Johnny, and Buck. All four of those guys will never be forgotten.
He did a good Mel Tillis too.
Neither will Merle.
MERLE is the guy they should make a movie about, but use HIS music, because NO ONE can duplicate!!!
yep i agree. only one Merl in this world but sadly he's not with us anymore but luckily we have his music that will not forgotten.. HIS LEGACY LIVES ON RIP THE HAG🙏
This man still is Amazing. He can never be replaced talent wise.

Merle has been my all-time favorite country artist my whole adult life. Both his voice and his songs have never been topped.
Merle 's impressions are spot on! Amazing!
one of the best old country singers, glad I have been able to hear his true country music for many many years.
He completely nailed the impersonation of Buck!
One of the finest country western vocalist and dance bands.
Emerged into the big time as a singer with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys.
The times I floated across the dance floor with a charming lady, the self totally lost and forgotten and Meryl singing .....ahhh sweetest of memories.
What an amazing talent. I think he is the best country singer ever, even beats Willie and that is saying something!!!
Merle is a great artist. I don't think his rare talent has ever been recognized like it should have been for country music. You rock Merle, thanks...

Buck Owens impersonation is incredible !

The Hank Snow imitation is amazing. Damn, that sounds like Buck.
When Ronald Reagan pardoned Merle Haggard, he made a wise choice.
I didnt know that
For sure!
Michael
Received a full pardon from then Governor Reagan in 1972.
I guess it is quite randomly asking but does anybody know of a good site to stream newly released tv shows online ?
This man has it all, love Merle
There will never be another Merle Haggard! Thanks for sharing all those wonderful memories in pictures!!!! OH MY!
