For years, I have celebrated GM Ben Finegold for the rule "Never play f3/f6." Then I heard, he had stolen/misappropriated it in blatant violation of US copyright laws. Now I like Ben even more. ;)
Ben--thanks for your great sense of humor and engaging teaching style. You actually make chess videos fun to watch. Please keep doing what you are doing!
yay someone just forced me into playing the marshall variation of the french defence, and now i know i need to do a daring queen sacrifice for mate, thanks!
In 3:00, Ben tell us about the open f-file for attacks against white, but the black king is more exposed at the same time. It always seems confusing to me, as a lower rated player, when GMs teaches these classes, they don't mention the double edged nature of the positions. So, either they dont wanna confuse telling too much, or they have a good reason to ignore other stuff, and this reason is bever explained. This makes it so hard to grasp what is going on.
I am a casual chess player so correct me in case i am wrong: 8:37 isnt better to play Knight E2 check, White King has to go to H1, Black Rook F2, White Rook F2, Black Queen E1, White Rook F1, Black Queen F1 -> Check mate? Looks like a guaranteed mate, as played white can still survive trading both queens.
WE ALL LOVE MR FINEGOLD!! HE IS NOT ONLY GREAT AT CHESS (MAYBE NOT AS GREAT AS MORPHY, RETI OR CAPABLANCA, BUT STILL, EASILY ONE OF THE BEST MASTERS ALIVE) AND HE IS FUNNY ALSO.
lmao these are the same games in a lecture from december /watch?v=hfnLOkWvkOM Published on Dec 27, 2016 Grandmaster Ben Finegold shows two historical games from at least a century ago. See one of Steinitz's best at Hastings 1895 and the "Gold Coins Game" from Frank Marshall.
Ben said that viewers should memorize these games. Knowing that viewers didn't memorize them in 2016, he repeats them in 2017. Eventually, with enough repetition, we'll memorize them.
I've seen all Finegold episodes (even home series), mastered FINEGOLD-WEST gambit (but please dont transpose it to Kummer line!) and with this gambit i'm simply crushing all IM's and FM's. my most profound conlusions after master lectures: never play f6 (if you forget about all Mr FIngold advices and still play this move you can simply resign) b4 is a bad move (too aggresive) dont move same piece twice in a row!! good bishop is better than bad bishop if there are only kings and opposite bishops on the board you can ask your opponent for a draw (playing for the win makes no sense because bishops cant catch each other)
Can someone explain why there is a separate women’s class? And as a developmental psychologist I am well aware of differences seen between men and women... but these differences are negligible except at the extremes, as you would see with any distribution curve. And while men score slightly higher with spatial reasoning, again, it’s not enough to justify an entirely different chess class
Historical reasons mostly. Now it's used to popularize the game to women, but the "men's" section is really the open section. Women are welcome in the open section, but the highest rated woman is like 2600, while the men reach into the 2800s. That's a clear separation.
The Gold Coin Move, the chess equivalent of "And then the whole bus applauded"
That's extremely accurate 😂😂

Londen sestim
So when is Arjun gonna teach a class and call on Finegold for all the answers?
Let's call on a random student -- Grandmaster Ben Finegold!
No! Didn't you read your lines! Terrible!
Ben: 'This is low rated players move, so its recommended by?'
Arjin: ''Mike Kummer'
its spelled arjun though
It's Arjun
nobody cares hows the kid called
I do.
Luka D You never spell Arjin wrong.
Lasker vs Napier is an old friend who has kept me company over the years. This is the best analysis I have seen however.
Another finegold video? Exclam!
"Some of Marshall's most sparkling moves look at first like typographical errors."
- William Napier
"Arjun likes Russian, I told him to slow down."
Vladimir Vilimaitis it's spelled "Arjun"!
2 finegold videos in one week ?? suspicious
mahmood saba Solid!
The mother of all "oh no my queen" games 😮
Ben--thanks for your great sense of humor and engaging teaching style. You actually make chess videos fun to watch. Please keep doing what you are doing!
I need to see Arjun play Ben
yay someone just forced me into playing the marshall variation of the french defence, and now i know i need to do a daring queen sacrifice for mate, thanks!
This is gold. He's so entertaining
12:38 "What do I have in common with him [Steinitz] ? I went to his grave."
Wow

Ben never gets old.
Lasker vs Napier should be covered in more details. That game deserves in-depth analysis.
Another grandmaster Ben Finegold video? Is this real life?
Tomas Zaloudek *Grandmaster Ben Finegold

August Greig memes

@@jasondoe2596 A very suspicious answer.
"I got married in Hastings... but not at that tournament"
I DO know Steinitz vs von Bardeleben, so I WILL look smug. The truth hurts, grandmaster Ben Finegold. The truth hurts.
Ben Finegold doing a lecture with games from Steinitz, Suspicious.
I am a casual chess player so correct me in case i am wrong:

I know this is hella late, but in this variation, after black pays Rxf2, I don't see how Qd8+ isn't immediately winning for white.
Ben is the man!
I wonder if he will ever get a trivia TV show called Win Ben Finegold's money?
finegold! raaarrrrr!!!
Ben's reactions slay me.
11:20
So that's where Ben gets his sense of humor

5:45 why not g6
I really love this man

9:14 I’d take the Rook on c5 rather than Queen g3
It's in Germany
What's wrong with him
Who is aurgin (orgin) I want to see his picture more then Ben's video 😂😂
Incorrect! You were close (but not really close).
tamilans league It's Arjun. Look up "arjun Saint Louis". There's a video of him analysing his game with Jonathan Schrantz.
7:20 hey that’s me!
"Ken West does it all the time by mistake" - Priceless
Ben's never heard of the Levitsky attack?
Im going to count how many jokes Ben delivers per video.
The Online Mentor just don't turn it into a drinking game - it would be fatal :D
Liar
Finagled and The Great Carlini should have a face-off. :P
Queen g3 was badass.
“What kind of move is that?”
I was hoping someone was going to say…”A Check!!”
Ben for FIDE president!!!
"Arjun likes Russian ... I told him to slow down"
Epic chess humour
Isaac Bishara i dont get it :'(
Scroogie TW maybe they play faster??!z i didnt get it either
ORo Hasan Russian is pronounced like rushing
@@NihilSubSole Thanks xD I didn't get it when Ben said it, now I'm cracking up. Man Ben is so funny xD
Qe1?
5:57 Rxf2 Rxf2 Qe1+ Rf8 Qxf8#
Qe1+ it's risky... due to Rxe1 exclam
Rf8 instead of Rxe1! Recommended by GM Ken West.
But honestly Rxf2 is the best move, cause your idea works with Qa1+ instead of Qe1+.
very suspicious...
Love
@ 10:56 GM Finegold forgot to mention that Qe5 attempting to defend against Qxh2++ loses Nf3+ Kh1 Rxh2++
Why doesnt he grow his beard, i demand answers!!!!!
That golden shower-joke though...
That last game lol.
18:31 I'm guessing Karen was in the room.
We need kid's class. preferable 1 o clock. :D
So some of you are confused... but... you were confused when you walked in.
No? Nothing? ... terrible
it's in germany
why does Ben keeps on making his Bedroom eyes....ROFL
very suspicious
"Guess I'm not white"
-Ben finegold the black guy
At 28:25 btw and no I'm not racist.

AND ME I can't tell if you're joking or not
Probably nobody knows why, but men are just better at chess :P Also isn't the 2000+ level pretty much an extreme?
Historical reasons mostly. Now it's used to popularize the game to women, but the "men's" section is really the open section. Women are welcome in the open section, but the highest rated woman is like 2600, while the men reach into the 2800s. That's a clear separation.
