My name is Kaiya Pelletier and I am documenting my metal journey as I discover and listen to metal music for the first time ever. I'm in my mid 20's and I've been a singer songwriter and performer for over 10 years. Currently I live in Stillwater, Oklahoma and I am in the process of recording my 4th album. I have a one year old Bloodhound named Rusty who we lovingly call 'The Turd'. I love Mexican food, collecting Stephen King novels, collecting CD's, vinyl's and cassettes and my favorite movies are tied between Jurassic Park and Alien.

I will never understand why having more songs or more time of good music for the same price can be a 'con'.
For me, if the music is good (and Lovebites music is the best), I don't care if it's 1h or 45 minutes: Give me more.
Electric Pentagram is an outstanding album. Left me wanting more, NOT less. Seeing their live versions made it even better.
A masterpiece. In essence, Lovebites are unable to produce anything less than a masterpiece.

It's a magnificent album with very different styles of metal and very complete. Asami is one of the best singers both for her voice and for her presence on stage.
To me, Electric Pentagram is one of the best albums (male or female) in the history of metal in the world and their live performances are even better, just outstanding.
I agree with this. Everything this band does has been great but for me, Electric Pentagram is a top 2-3 metal album ever released. 🐺🤟
I'm a 75 year old metal head from the UK. I have been listening to heavy rock and metal right from the beginning, and going to see many of the bands play, including many you have probably never heard of (Uriah Heep, Wishbone Ash, Hawkwind, Saxon, and many more) as well as the better known such as Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest to name just a few. I am not too keen on many of the newer bands, and I never 'got' the whole grunge music scene. Discovering Lovebites a few years ago was like the sun rising again for me. Here was a band that played the kind of rock and metal I love, and played it better than many of the older bands I followed with their own flavour added. The fact that it is 5 petite young women from Japan was a surprise, but I have come to realise that the depth of music talent in Japan is unsurpassed anywhere else in the world, to the extent of my knowledge.
I really do not understand your comment about the length of the album play time being "A Con" ??? I wonder if it's a generational thing. I know I shouldn't generalise, but it does seem to me that many of you younger people lack the ability to concentrate on any one thing for more than about a minute or two. I'm from the generation that bought double vinyl albums, 4 sides on two discs, ( many of which I still own and treasure ) and were excited to have that much music to listen to.
I honestly don't know what else to say to you. I simply do not understand much of what you are complaining about.
From France, I totally agree, Old Chap (74 me too), I also have the impression that young people today (I'm generalizing a bit perhaps) are part of the zapping era and that paying attention to something for more than a few minutes is a problem for them...
And I remember how frustrating it was when a vinyl record only lasted 18 minutes per side...
Yeah I'm totally agree with you chap.. I'm only 50 and I experienced same thing with you which is felt nothing more to hear after 90's era, until I discovered Lovebites.. and how come the new generation said 1 hour is very long for an album is weird for me too.. Then what's they're gonna say about Dream Theater's Octavarium that takes 24 minutes long for only one single song??

"Swan Song" is a masterpiece, and Asami's vocals are just gorgeous, especially in the unforgettable chorus. For a native Japanese speaker not fluent in English, I give extra credit to her; as I would to any of my native English vocal heroes if they able were to pull off such a feat in Japanese.
She lived two years in USA!
FYI this band won the award for best power metal band of the year. Phenomenal album and musicians. One of the best all time.

Great review! I understand your comment that the album might be a bit long, but on the other hand... there are no songs here you could cut! They're all excellent! The result is... more Lovebites! Always a good thing.
I have never been dissuaded from purchasing an album due to its length. In fact, I find it a bargain to get MORE music for the same price as shorter albums. You don't have to listen to the whole thing in one sitting. That seems like a stupid thing to list as a con for purchasing any album. If you are paying $20 for music do you want to get 8 songs or 10 songs or 12 songs? Me? I want more songs, so give me 12.

The Piano is played by one of the guitarrist, Miyako which is also the main composer. I am split between the first album Awakening from Abyss and the latest Judgement Day for which one is my favorite. Electric Pentagram is the longest one

Japan definitely has more to offer than just Baby Metal.
One argument could be that some will say it's too long, while others will say it's not long enough. Either way, this is a magnificent album and an incredible band. 😊

LOVEBITES is a five-member all-female, Japanese heavy metal band with deep musicianship (plus classical music/piano background). They transcend gender, genre, and geography, with some 65+ songs in their discography. Great review of Lovebites' 3rd full album ! Personally, I find the length of the LP just nice because of the quality and the musical variety it contained, certainly got my best bang for the buck. Another album that is certainly worth checking out is their latest one - "Judgement Day"

Electric Pentagram is my favorite album of the decade. I understand why some people think its too long, and I'm a stickler for that too. But the album is just long enough and exits at the perfect cut off point.

For me, this LP is much too short... and rule #1 for LOVEBITES is, you can't chop ANY song, if you ever find the worst LOVEBITES song, it is still a banger! My theory is, that if they ever compose a mediocre song, it gets straight into the dust bin...
As you said, they are popular in youtube but unfortunately only there.........even you who are into metal and knew them this is the first time you heard them.....I would suggest you watch ALL Five of the kind(live in Tokyo) from the tour after Electric Pentagram and I hope you will make a review with what you saw.........Believe me, it's worth ......
2 Load albums, each with over 70 minutes of music... I get why that's too much, but 1 album that's just an hour? Have you been tested for ADHD? They're not Tiktokers. They are a metal band.

I never look at albums in terms of length, I don't feel forced to listen to entire album at the same time, sometimes I listen to half and sometimes 2 in the row and in times when you can listen to entire album on band's official youtube channel or on spotify you don't have to commit to buying an album to listen to it, so I think that nowdays length doesn't matter that much, I'm happy to get more ;)
I liked your review a lot, could say I "vibed" with a lot of what you had to say! So this is not to debate your point, but to expand on some of those arguments.
By the quality of individual songs, this is probably the best Rock/Metal album of the new decade (I am consciously checking myself against declarations of "best of the Millennium" and the like). Yes, it may be intimidating to the general public who usually have preserved barely enough patience to "last" a couple songs on Mp3 or streaming. But happily, Rock, Metal and Classical music fans are usually famous for mightier attention spans! 😁
The idea is to spread the word so they do not go about thinking "these chicks in white can't be serious, again some producer BS posing as Metal..." - every one who knows LOVEBITES for what they are, ought to make it a New year's resolution to show any of their Rock-tolerant friends at least a couple of the band's songs in various styles... and let the ball roll! Splashing the full "Electric Pentagram" in front of anyone may initially prove dubious, since one is knocked down with the very first song, but then the girls hardly ever take the foot off the pedal, no ballads, all high intensity - and depending on the person, I see how some may feel it's an overdose! 🤔🤣
Still I would say the "problem" (no problem, but for the sake of discussion!) is rather not the length, as the album contains no throwaway tracks whatsoever - actually at least 10 of the 12 are among the best examples of the band's songwriting to that date. The devil is in the sequencing - the album gets better as it goes, with probably the most impactful, brilliantly written and stylistically varied songs back-loaded towards the second half. The first 4 to 5 tracks are all high intensity bangers (with Asami truly pushing the vocals), which is a great thing if that's what you are after, but since this album is much more varied, maybe LOVEBITES could have sprinkled some of their more melodic and adventurous stuff early, for a change of pace?..
In a way, their blitz right out of the gate might have been a function of some critics giving lukewarm response to the previous album "Clockwork Immortality" as too mainstream and "soft". So the ladies conceivably went into studio with something to prove! 🤘😈
Overall, while the high pace is generally maintained, this is a varied outing, with our ears being served Power Metal, of course ("Holy War", "When Destinies Align"), but also songs with clear Neo-Classical elements ("Signs of Deliverance", "Swan Song"), Thrash songs (Thunder Vengeance", "Set the World on Fire"), fun Party Rock ("Raise Some Hell", but especially "Dancing with the Devil"!), more melodic stuff ("Today Is the Day", "The Unbroken"), and finally the atmospheric Progressive composition tour-de-force in "A Frozen Serenade"... probably still their greatest moment thus far.
Technically, all the musicians by this point had so far superseded what passes for "good" in the music world, talking about each individual instrument would feel almost redundant; let's leave it at: nowhere today shall you hear the amount and quality of twin guitar leads and solos as done by Midori and Miyako! One has to go quite far back in history to look for apt comparisons. And the vocals, being so unusual for a Japanese singer particularly, characterized as they are by a powerful chest belt, are a (fast) acquired taste. I find they work best in the songs that allow for more variation - and for that, both the "Glory, Glory to the World" EP and the "Judgement Day" album that followed may be even better balanced "entry points" into the LOVEBITES world. 🐺😇🐺

Personally, I don't see a long album as a con. The album has no filler, and the songs are technically amazing. I wouldn't have any problems with that if I didn't know the band. Traditional album lengths I would think come originally from what can fit on a vinyl LP (don't quote me on that, I am just assuming). Anyhow, I also second and strongly suggest a reaction to some of their live videos. I'm not familiar with being a YT content creator, but my understanding is pausing to comment within reactions gets you around most of that. Fair play though if you don't want to deal with that. I suggest checking out some of their live performances on your own time, because honestly, its where they truly shine. Mostly, they are better live than in studio, recent albums aside. Thanks for reacting to the album. Its a great one. I could also suggest Clockwork Immortaility and Judgement Day. They don't disappoint. They've become my favorite band of all time for reason. I LOVE Lovebites, however, somehow I can understand those who dislike Asami's voice/style. I was personally hooked by - at first - the incredible twin lead guitar playing by M&M, Asami's voice grew on me later. (I would be curious how Lovebites would sound like with an other singer - e. g. Marina Hebiishi or similar)

They are listened not only by metalheads. Ladies came out of their metal genre and have wider spectrum of fans.
They play Eclectic Metal. It means they blend as the first band in history all kind of metal mainly power and thrash with NWOBHM,
heavy metal, symphonic metal, speed metal,hair metal, hard rock, rock, rock'n'roll, jazz, progressive pieces, funk and even punk. They mix all with classical music using operatic, R&B, soul and gospel skills of vocalist and grand piano and Spanish guitar skills playing. Sometimes they use typical Japanese melodic lines which are included in ENKAs_ melancholy ballads singing by Japanese women. Only their can do it. Obviously they draw a lot from British, German and American metal. All this makes their style unique.

Regarding the length of the recordings, I don't think there's much difference of opinion among the older generation who listened to longer songs when they were younger.
I get the impression that many of the younger generation can't concentrate hard.
To match this, I think a lot of recent songs are around 3 minutes 30 seconds long.🤔
If you see and hear them perform live, you'll be amazed at how different they are from existing bands.
I'm sure you're familiar with "LOVEBITES", but I'd like to promote it for those who don't.

To show their gratitude to the fans who come to see them, they practice hard before the live show so they can give a good performance.
I think the members also discuss how to fix things they didn't notice during recording and make the songs better.

If you try to think or analyze the band's BPM, songs, and music based on traditional concepts of a metal band, I think your understanding of Lovebites will be limited and one-sided.
This heavy metal band continues to evolve.
They don't stick to one genre of metal music.
Sometimes it blends different metal music genres together, and sometimes it blends classical music.
They have a variety of genres of metal music that they think are good, and they have the skills to perform them live.
Sometimes their songs are on the border between metal and hard rock, and if they call it metal music, then to me it is metal music.
LOVEBITES was formed in 2016 by Miho(Ba) and Haruna(Dr), members of the band "DESTROSE", which went on hiatus in 2015.
The girls made their major label debut in 2017 (March 24) with "THE LOVEBITES EP".
On 11 June 2018, LOVEBITES won 😈'BEST NEW BAND🏆' at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods 2018 awards organised by the British metal magazine METAL HAMMER.
On August 4th, LOVEBITES performed on the W.E.T stage at WACKEN OPEN AIR 2018, one of the world's largest metal festivals held in Germany, and the venue, which has a capacity of 10,000, was almost full.
"Bloodstack open air 2018(Aug. 10)" also participated.
On August 20,2018, LOVEBITES announced that it has partnered with X-ray Touring, one of the largest players in the UK booking agent industry.
LOVEBITES toured the Netherlands, Germany, France and UK from November 13-21, 2018.
Asami (Vo) of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm "Download Japan 2019(March 21)", singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's "Love Bites (So Do!)", which gave the band their name.
LOVEBITES performed as a support band for "Arch Enemy's China tour at the Shanghai show on March 23 and the Beijing show on March 24, 2019".
LOVEBITES participated in "dowload Festival 2019(June 15)".
And Asami of LOVEBITES appeared as a guest on stage at Halestorm Download Festival UK 2019, singing alongside "Lzzy" Hale on Halestorm's "Love Bites (So Do!)" again after Japan.
LOVEBITES join DragonForce on UK tour 2019(Nov. 2-14).
On 2 December 2019, LOVEBITES was the support act for the Tokyo leg of Halestorm's Japan tour.
On January 10, 2020, a headline show was held at the venue "The Colosseum™" in the resort hotel Hard Rock Hotel Singapore Resorts World™ Sentosa.

On 17 August 2021, LOVEBITES took an extended break after the departure of their leader, bassist Miho.
The remaining girls organised an audition for a new bassist from around the world and recruited a new bassist called Fami(Ba).
Fami is a five-string bassist who can dance, sing and play and has 695,000 TH-cam subscribers.

LOVEBITES label company( victor entertainment) didn't block the reactors. I saw so many reactors who didn't issue with the band. A lots of reactions from 5 years ago still online with no issues.
Damn, this album is a super album, I didn't even realize how long it is. I usually listen to these songs in a playlist, so I guess I don't think about it that much. That's 5 minutes and 50 seconds per song average.

This is not their first studio album. I personally like 2018 Clockwork Immortality more. I think Electric Pentagram should have more breathing room. That is what Clockwork Immortality has.

The most of their songs aren't "funny"!
Phenomenal musicians but the vocals are bland and have minimal charisma/dynamics. It is not the " accent " either but the range/stylistic vocal changes and dynamics are simply not there causing many songs to sound too similar. IMO
I used to think that way too, but i changed my mind......I think her voice is great

Sorry but there are many vocal coaches who would wholeheartedly disagree with you. Asami has a phenomenal voice. Some vocal coaches who have reacted to Lovebites have put Asami's voice on par with Mariya Kerry and other great vocalists.
@colingardiner6697 will give another listen. I dont care for the phrasing, intonation or character. Not Epic enough for my taste but maybe I missed something. I have no issues with the high ranges.
She does change the vocal approach, singing more mellow, aggressive, higher pitch, lower pitch depending on the song.
The more power metal oriented songs kinda sounds the same vocally tho
