That is a slick blade. Love old knives. My grandpa gave me a buck 105 from the late 60s. Thing is 50 years old and holds an edge like none other
And we've all had these adventures that just didn't go according to plan.

My Danchel stove has the exact same annoying damper issue where the "pin" lays Horizontal while the flap inside the pipe is wide open. Its annoying as all heck and is easy to forget. I also wonder if you needed to make the holes on the sausage can a bit bigger to allow greater air flow?

Fir, Pine and cedar trees are dense in the Iowa state area more than other states. j/s AND cause more creosote to stick and ooze from stove pipes. The sausage can on top was a good idea, just make the holes bigger it will work. (note: it wouldn't have been so long or difficult to put the tent up or down with a little helping hand ;) )

I've had a trip of learning like that too. That liquid creosote is dangerous too, if it ignites on the stove your tent will burn in seconds. If I get build up I'll have an incredibly hot fire outdoors on a windless day burning just dry oak and melt it until I have an inner chimney fire. It does a nice job of cleaning out the sludge.

Have to experiment to find what works.. Yeah, now that you mention it, if the chimney top was sitting too close to the vent hole...it cut off the flow? Sorry you kids had some challenges...Yup! Live and Learn, but Don't Crash and Burn..... Just your next adventure will be more fun! Great to see Gal Pal...however brief.. Lol! Looked like a cool tent though...I worry about too much wind blowing it into the stove pile and knocking it and the stove over...soo..wonder if securing the stove pipe with a pole attached to the ground might stabilize it some..I don't know, I've never camped with those stoves.
Good call on the stake pulls! I was going to suggest that last time, but forgot...I use an extra tent stake ( spike round type with a loop on one end?) But if you have the kind with a little hole on end and no extra cord..maybe some 14 gauge wire or coat hanger..
Thanks for the quality entertainment lil' brother and Sis!! Maybe you can get out Sunday its going to be around 60 day time...but some yuk weather coming after...

Trick that I learned with my stakes first off is used round ones they look like the big gutter nails btw the gutter nails work really good at steaks also. No what I do is I drill a hole in them towards the top and I'll cut me a piece of paracord about 14 inches long put it through not it so it's got like a loop and it's time to retrieving from the ground you just grab that paracord pull it in the state should come right out frozen or not.

I hate to laugh at someone elses tribulations but it was just too hard not to. Your trip reminded me of a duck hunt I had. Ran over the reed section of my call at the landing. No problem, I will call them with my mouth. Then, using a coffee pot with toilet paper and alcohol for heat I set my camo rainsuit on fire and had to jump in the lake. I was pissed off so I said to hell with it, I'll go home. I had a good camo tarp covering my outboard and I forgot to take it off when I backed out of the blind and wrapped it all to hell in the prop. When I got home I discovered I had driven off with the battery charger sitting on the boat...the extension cord was stretched out down the drive but no sign of the charger. I was almost afraid to walk in the house for fear of finding my wife with my best friend or worse. Ya live and ya learn....sometimes the hard way. I subbed.

You really should you're looking and getting a spark arrestor make your own. The last piece of chimney pipe that went on I used some stainless steel screen and put it in the top like 6 in of it and then had a little cap that went on we're going to be made for my little pellet stove and it worked great there's nothing worse than burning holes in your tent. Mine's canvas so it's a little bit harder but if it does passionates a lot easier than a lot of these new modern materials. But my tent is a lot heavier but also holds heat a lot better I don't have to hold mine in on my back also when we use it elk hunting in Wyoming up in the mountains we go in on horseback. When I use it out here I got the four wheeler. Everything's a trade off I'm really digging that tent you got through the your gal pal did a good job there fiesta give her a big thank you from us and it's nice seeing other people coming out there with you like you said. Cheers and here's the many more camping adventures.

@@TheOutdoorsMeGee if I lived by you brother I would definitely go out there with you. Dale bailed because they're probably fair weather campers for the most part. It's funny about winter camping is you never know what's going to happen and you got the cold you got to deal with so it's not like summer time where everything's all happy and hunky-dory you know what I mean chicken wing. Now with your stove I built a bunch of wood burning stoves and I never use any of that cloth tape for sealing the door. To me you have a direct problem. Your spark arrestor could be restricting the flow the other thing is that small chimney pipe sucks on mine what I did is it use the small stuff and what I did is I made an adapter that went from the small to I believe it's 6 in regular ductwork for a house and may not be stainless steel but it holds up just fine and being the bigger diameter to get much better drafting and those little leaks where you get smoke coming in it won't happen cuz it'll be drawn Aaron so efficiently those little gaps that are there will be sucking air in instead of letting smoke out. Trust me I've built about 25 stoves I do a lot of ice fishing in Wisconsin where I do 90% of my fishing you can drag your ice shanty out there on the lake and leave it there you don't have to bring it in every day so we got a 15x15-ft woodchuck that we drag out there it's got a wood burning stove that I built out of a single drawer filing cabinet I'll tell you what it works great. I have another one that I've used in ammo can but the biggest thing is I use this 6-in ductwork it drafts way better. Like I said either get or make an adapter that goes from the little pipe on your stove have it where it goes from the stove about 6 in of and then goes to the bigger pipe I'm telling you brother it's going to work try it out you'll see it cost what like under $10 or $10 at the most to do it

You definitely need to invest in a better stove. Western wall tent sells a great one for under $400.00, made in U.S.A.. Spend a little bit more once and have a unit that will last for years. Don’t buy into the extras with cheaper stoves, the less parts the better after all you’re looking for reliability. Love your channel, Keep up the shenanigans

Many things you did wrong here, first the side window right next to the vent for the chimney was not open at all, 2nd your chimney top cover is the wrong kind to use it was basically not letting anything bigger than smoke escape which led to a buildup of that substance running down your pipe, 3rd some wood is hard to cut because it still has moisture in it and moisture builds up creosote faster than dry wood.
