I grew up on a ranch with an emotionally distant father whose only voiced concern is for the cows, his ranch, and his land. My dad loved us, but he didn’t have the slightest idea how to show it. So yeah, this show holds a lot of memories for a 42 year old rancher who is probably only slightly more emotionally mature than Rip and John. My dad is 72, hard time to walk. He was watching us herd cows into pens for sale next week. After we were done, we got a solid round of criticism before he took my son out hunting rabbits. It’s kinda funny how much easier he is on my son than he was on me. Hunting with him? When I hit 8 and wanted to hunt rabbits/grouse/etc, he would just say “you know where the shotgun is, you better come back with something to show for every shell you use”. I like to poke at him about how he’s getting soft in his old age. And yes, we’re branded, but we did it to ourselves, his only part in it was calling us idiots after we were finished. Myself and my best friend did it at 15 while we were bored in a snowstorm, hunting moose in one of our hunting/herding cabins. We got snowed in for three days. 15 year old boys with too much time on their hands become idiots. When he gave me the ranch finally, three years ago, he didn’t even tell me. Just had a lawyer show up with papers. Three years later, we still haven’t spoken about it.

This program shows why life as a guy is so great. (I want to say superior but don’t want to be flagged for hate speech.) So yeah, this show holds a lot of memories for a 42 year old rancher who is probably only slightly more emotionally mature than Rip and John.
Fantastic story mate
What a great story! You need to write your own saga!
Life is short, friend. Talk about it please. Much love ❤
Love this story! You should use your channel to share videos of your life on your ranch!
Grandchildren are different. 😊
I saw an interview with Cole ,he had trouble understanding why Rip was so popular with fans. Loyalty ,respect is everything!
Loyalty is a dog trait.
How about dedication as a trait?
@@benedictcumberbatch4275 I disagree. Loyalty is to truly respect trust and serve someone or an ideal.
@@lisawells9905 loyal like a dog is a saying.
@@lisawells9905 see what you wrote “serve someone” and that’s why it’s a trait compared to a servant or a loyal dog. Not “help someone” which is different and what a friend can do.
It's not very often you get a fantastic tv show like this. Looking in from Ireland 🇮🇪
Love to Ireland from America
Thank you, Rip, for giving me some sense of stride of how I want to be, minus the killing and all.
😂
One of my favorites that’s not included is their conversation after Rip saves Beth, that entire episode is great.
They have the same mutual respect my father and I had growing up and when we were in the business of raising cattle on the family farm. Not too many men get that, and having a family business isn’t easy but mutual respect is earned and it’s bittersweet. I wish my dad was still alive so I could appreciate it a few more years
Same anywhere in ways well but different my granda in Afghanistan and me he never lived to see me serve there but he gave me so much as a kid I believe we would've been like this now as both adults make a belief maybe but I hope so
Rip and John are the best. Can’t wait for season 5.
Being retired military thus having those type of conversations also, made be giggle a bit when they are talking about dropping off the wrangler at the "train station". Then shifting casually into their own feelings about wants and desires assuming your life is more important.
Yup I cried. Live Rip, and seeing him
Choke up made me choke up
I kept hearing johns voice saying "Quit fucking crying" from the scene where Rip was a kid.
Rip is a guy you put in a task and never get to worry about it
This show is absolutely brilliant. Words cant describe what they put together here. Its perfect.
That moment as a man when your father tells you to call him his name......Special moment and gets me pretty hot around the eyes. I know what that meant to Rip and it touches my heart deeply.
That’s weird. My father has never told me to call him by his name.
@@milesmayhem5440 then what do you call him

How far away do want them to go... That's such a great line.
The best show ever produced. And I've been watching tv since 1958.
Well, that's debatable, but it is an entertaining show.
It's definitely the best show on TV now. There's been a lot of great shows in the past so lets just agree its a great show and don't worry about its all time ranking.
It is one of the best children of TWIN PEAKS. I'll say that.
Before Thrones played Games.
Before Men were Mad.
Before Lost.
Before Breaking Bad.
Before Sopranos.
There was the show that changed the hour drama and birthed Peak TV.
@@patrick8030 Son's of Anarchy for cowboys. The "drama" is entertaining but if anyone thought of these as a good example of "real people" then that's ludicrous. The Duttons are criminals.

@13:10, I can't help but think that Rip stops to rebuild the fence due to his desire to keep all livestock (and animals) safe. While Rip is capable of extreme violence, he definitely has a soft spot for animals.
oh yeah he will get that fence fixed. it’s the cowboy way!
Like he said he rather kill a thousand men before killing another fucking horse

I grew up in Havre Montana and I’ve worked in Cody Wyoming. Rip is actually a image of 95 percent of the ranchers there. I’d bet any rancher in Texas, against ranchers in Montana and Wyoming, Texas would lose! They are Very Strong minded and learn hard work with basic Life understandings, before the age of 6. Ranchers deal with stupid animals and deal with VERY intelligent animals at the same time, learning to work with both and have a understanding how to treat and care for both isn’t a easy task. This is just a show, but there are people who live this show on the daily. Believe it or not, all ranchers do have to fight for their land, not just in Wyoming, but everywhere. Some truth and some very much fictional…
RIP Is As Loyal As They Come, Does Not Ask Any Questions, Yes Sir.
This is such an incredible show with so many great characters, but rip has to be my favorite
John was certainly not Rip’s bio father but he certainly was the father he deserved
Without a doubt the best series and characters ever conceived, Hands down.
They never look at each other when they are talking, look up, look at the ground, always have some deep thought and looking anywhere but who they are talking to. I love the show, I think Beth could dial it back a notch.
Interesting observation why do you think they do that?
I was born and raised in Yellowstone country , right there at the Oxbow Trailer Park.
This show reminds me so much of my father I cherish and appreciate these people for creating such a magnificent show I will miss you forever dad I know your watching over me always I will continue to protect and serve my country and family as best as I can❤

Rip is such a great son to John
I live in a very small town that has real cowboys in it, this stuff is pretty accurate character wise, our boys are a little more straight up but it's close.
Watching John and rip reminds me of me and my dad you can see how much they love each other
This program shows why life as a guy is so great. (I want to say superior but don’t want to be flagged for hate speech.) Half the time they just “grunt” at each other and they understand each other perfectly. No long drawn out conversation using a thousand words to say what you can say with a single grunt. If I could find a woman that understood grunts I would be in heaven.
And some of us even understand a shift in how you stand when your back is turned to us.
I don't know about the rest of you but it only took one episode to get me hooked on this show as a lot of you said you do learn a lot of things from the show I'm no cowboy but it definitely makes me wish I was
(8:42) That line perfectly describes the relationship I have with my Dad. And I've loved every second of it, and been loved. ❤
I just finished watching season 5. Now i have to start all over again! It is worth it!
The John (father) and Rip (son) dynamic is strong in this show....damn.
When Rip got so emotional when John gave him the cabin and the note. It made me cry. Then when Rip thanked John for what he wrote to him 😢😢
As a teenager and young adult, I didn’t understand. As a 40+ year old man, I understand all the lessons my father was trying to teach me. I always tell young folk to make a life for yourself that’s better than what your folks did for you. It’s all your folks want. And grandkids
God I love them all so much. I can’t handle any main character losses in season 5 😩😢 Please spare us
It needs to happen, honestly. I'd prefer Monica and Tate. Get Kayce all in on the ranch.
The ranch was supposed to be Tates. Now there's Carter. Small version RIP. He also wants to grow up to be John Dutton. So which boy gets the ranch? Tate or Carter.
@@MicheleWalkerWebb Tate, he’s blood.

I grew up watching Bonanza with my father, and now I'm watching this with my kids. Best shows ever!
I’d never let my kids watch this. The world doesn’t have to cuss as much as they do on this show. It’s like over kill. I grew up on ranches, around cowboys and you just didn’t hear all that profanity.
Can’t wait for the return!!!
TV Shows nowadays, you see and hear relationships like this, but rarely do you actually feel them. First time in a while I could actually feel the motions and emotions two actors portrayed on a series.
LMAO 7:09 is such a man's moment. Yeah Rip had to acknowledge the best gift he's ever gotten for 3 seconds with some tearing up....then "uh we better get some more wranglers sir". 😂 Great writing.
Great scenes. I need to watch this show much more. I'm sure that I'll become a big fan.
Rip has been the son John has prayed for to continue watching over his family's legacy. Great chemistry of characters 👏

I think Johns biggest confliction is knowing that the son he wants to take over and continue the legacy of the ranch doesn't want it.
The scene where John asks Rip to move into the bunkhouse to let Kayce lead just about killed me! Made me realize just how horrible a man John Dutton is. To take a man's unswerving loyalty and then demote him was almost more than I could take. Good thing he redeemed himself later.

I see it differently. He lets Rip know it's part of a bigger picture. He trusts Rip and tells him straight to his face. Yes, it is a blow to his ego/pride but for the overall health of "their" home.
@@straycat62 100%. John was asking Rip to make the sacrifice. Both John and Rip knew Kayce had to take over at some point as his first choice Lee was gone and Jamie was a failure.
