I think it was a combination of Monica leaving him as well,he spiraled for a bit John seen it and made him step up and run the bunkhouse to get his mind focused on something rip showed him the ropes as well,that was the whole storyline from what I seen anyways
I don’t think rip took it easy on him that knee and slam from Kacey took a lot out of rip that 230lbs slamming onto one side of the body. Hence why John said “well you made him earn it” rip had more in him to go but he made it a close enough fight to make it believable

He provides for his entire family but also sometimes his in-laws therefore has multiple kid's to look after not just his own and he also looks for the entire res and prevents quite a few of them from being kidnapped and murdered. Even if he wasn't in the military no one in the entire fucking show work's more then that man not even rip not even his father no one does. Kayce is the best one on this entire show.

But at the end of the day they drew each others blood and definitely respect one another. Shows how without any question Rip said he’d take the cover fire for Kayce to help him out. 🫡 that’s Brotherhood at the end of the day.

Well, for one, he's a fictional character, and thus should be analyzed like any other character. Secondly, calling out someone's flaws isn't "shit-talking" as much as it is an observation. Sure, Rip is loyal and has somewhat of a moral compass, but that blind loyalty led him to do some truly heinous shit in the name of Yellowstone and the Duttons. Kayce, while also having unclean hands, is more prone to following his moral code rather than orders, which explains many of his actions throughout the series (saving Tate, sparing Walker, saving the horses, selling the herd, etc.). Both of these characters have to deal with their flaws throughout the series, which causes them to grow by the end of it.

In real life and not in the movies if a person earns their living by fighting, they should be far superior to a farmer in a fair fight. Btw generally, people choose their purpose based on their natural skills, so if a guy ends up being in the special forces it’s because he’s physically and mentally better equipped for fighting than normal people

The Seals aren't unarmed combat specialists. Sure, they learn the basics, but the plan has gone spectacularly wrong if you're in a fistfight situation as a Seal. They spend much more time training endurance, tactics and firearms. Some Seals practice MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, etc., as a hobby, but it's not a requirement of the job. This isn't to take anything away from the Seals. A good boxer or MMA fighter might beat a Seal unarmed, particularly if they're taller or heavier, but that Seal would destroy them in a firefight situation. Seals train for war, not for boxing rings.
Your ideas about Navy SEALs are shaped by Hollywood. Martial arts training is good, but without constant practice it is useless. Rip is at least 10 kilograms heavier and much more experienced in fist fights. If it weren't for John's request, he would have made a chop out of Kayce But if they were shooting at each other with AR-15s, then I would bet on Kayce.
Maybe, but it all depends to whom, or what, he's loyal to. They are both good men, but if Kayce has the brains and heart to question certain orders, then he's better at doing the *real* right thing. A good example is Walker: Rip was ready to drop him off at the train station, no questions asked, but Kayce had enough compassion to give Walker at second chance, which turned out to be a good move overall.
Don't have much choice Rip killed 2 people as a teenager John gave him a place and a reason to live you see that in a flash back when he says he is going to be top hand John gave Rip a purpose in life they both wear the brand but for different reasons and feel different about it
they have history. Walker was someone he picked from prison to be hired as a worker and branded him. But he made it very clear that he will not partake in any illegal activity since that can throw him back in jail. This doesn't sit right with Rip because everyone's got to do their share to protect the ranch. Another factor is that Walker's got a mouth on him, and he doesn't shy away from taking jabs at both Lloyd or Rip

Well, for one, he's a fictional character, and thus should be analyzed like any other character. Secondly, calling out someone's flaws isn't "shit-talking" as much as it is an observation.
Sure, Rip is loyal and has somewhat of a moral compass, but that blind loyalty led him to do some truly heinous shit in the name of Yellowstone and the Duttons.
Kayce, while also having unclean hands, is more prone to following his moral code rather than orders, which explains many of his actions throughout the series (saving Tate, sparing Walker, saving the horses, selling the herd, etc.).
Both of these characters have to deal with their flaws throughout the series, which causes them to grow by the end of it.

You can have all the training in the world, but nothing can prepare you for getting hit in the face. There is always someone bigger and meaner than you in this world no matter how prepared you are.

In real life and not in the movies if a person earns their living by fighting, they should be far superior to a farmer in a fair fight. No matter how physically strong the farmer is, he spends his time tending to the farm, not training for battles, because that’s not his purpose in life. Btw generally, people choose their purpose based on their natural skills, so if a guy ends up being in the special forces it’s because he’s physically and mentally better equipped for fighting than normal people

The Seals aren't unarmed combat specialists. Sure, they learn the basics, but the plan has gone spectacularly wrong if you're in a fistfight situation as a Seal. They spend much more time training endurance, tactics and firearms. Some Seals practice MMA, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, etc., as a hobby, but it's not a requirement of the job. This isn't to take anything away from the Seals. A good boxer or MMA fighter might beat a Seal unarmed, particularly if they're taller or heavier, but that Seal would destroy them in a firefight situation. Seals train for war, not for boxing rings.
Your ideas about Navy SEALs are shaped by Hollywood. Martial arts training is good, but without constant practice it is useless. Rip is at least 10 kilograms heavier and much more experienced in fist fights. If it weren't for John's request, he would have made a chop out of Kayce
But if they were shooting at each other with AR-15s, then I would bet on Kayce.

Maybe, but it all depends to whom, or what, he's loyal to.
They are both good men, but if Kayce has the brains and heart to question certain orders, then he's better at doing the *real* right thing.
A good example is Walker: Rip was ready to drop him off at the train station, no questions asked, but Kayce had enough compassion to give Walker at second chance, which turned out to be a good move overall.

they have history. Walker was someone he picked from prison to be hired as a worker and branded him. But he made it very clear that he will not partake in any illegal activity since that can throw him back in jail. This doesn't sit right with Rip because everyone's got to do their share to protect the ranch. Another factor is that Walker's got a mouth on him, and he doesn't shy away from taking jabs at both Lloyd or Rip
