Woo Hee-jun chanced upon kabaddi during her trip to India in 2014. Since then, she fell in love with the sport and became a member of the South Korean national kabaddi team the next year. To promote the sport and break common stereotypes against athletes, she went on to participate in the Miss Korea & Miss Earth beauty pageants and became the 2019 Miss Korea 1st runner-up. But she didn’t stop there! Her next challenge is to become an army officer as she has 6 months left of her cadet training.

I'm an indian and I feel proud to see a Korean playing kabaddi coz it's something new to see from Korea. As a woman myself, I'm actually proud to see a woman breaking stereotypes about sports and challenging herself to show the world that nothing can stop you if you have your mind set onto your goals. I feel motivated after listening to her. Sending her love and hope to see her in the next international kabbadi games.
Beyond her story, I love how although her English isn’t perfect but she is super comfortable in speaking there!
She participated in 2019 Miss Korea to promote kabaddi but she ended up being second place, that’s crazy!!! And then army officer??? This woman is amazing. There’s nothing she can’t do.

Kabbadi is an indian sport which is relatively very old cos its origin is found in tamilnadu a state in india. Tamilnadu is a state where kabbadi is found where people irrespective of genders play this game. As many know close relations between tamil and hangul language, with this sports getting widespread recognition in korea is great!. I believe some time in future south korea and state of tamilnadu acknowledge their cultural similarities and their people's interest in each other's culture for the benefit of them.
